CRP ENROLLMENT ACTIVITY AND NEWS –June 2011

FY 2010 general signup (#39) ended with enrollment of 4.0 million acres. State and county books, based on the 4.3 million acres preliminarily approved for enrollment, are posted at: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/webapp?area=home&subject=copr&topic=crp

FY 2011 general signup (#41) ended with 2.8 million acres approved for enrollment. Offers were made on 3.8 million acres. A table with preliminary approvals is located at: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/Internet/FSA_File/crpsignupresults.pdf

FY 2011 continuous signup (#40) added 21,052 acres in June and now totals 204,425 acres. This is 70,000 acres

below last year at this time, probably due to the workload related to the recent general signup.

General signup enrollment declined by 25,000 acres during June.

General Signup. Producers with eligible lands compete nationally for acceptance based on an environmental benefits index (EBI) during specified enrollment periods. Producers may submit offers below soil-specific maximum rental rates and select wildlife-enhancing vegetative covers to increase EBI ranking. Continuous (Non-CREP) Sign-up. Producers with eligible lands may enroll certain high priority conservation practices, such as filter strips, riparian buffers, and wetlands at any time during the year without competition. In addition to annual soil rental payment and cost-share assistance, many practices are eligible for additional annual and one-time up-front financial incentives. Land enrolled under various initiatives are included in this category. Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP). Under CREP agreements, Federal/State partnerships, implement projects designed to address specific environmental objectives through targeted CRP enrollments. Sign-up is held on a continuous basis, general sign-up practices may be included, and additional financial incentives are generally provided. Currently, there are 45 agreements in 33 States. Farmable Wetland Program (FWP). Producers enroll small non-flood plain wetlands, and new practices added by the 2008 Farm Bill, under modified continuous sign-up provisions. The accompanying tables are based on contract data developed and maintained in CRP data files by USDA Service Centers through the end of June 2011, and are based on the physical location of the CRP contracted land. Some adjustments have been made to correct miscoded data in the active contract files.
