ALL AVID students visit 1‐2 college campuses every year

8th graders shadow an AVID ninth grader at their feeder schools.

AVIDDistrictLeadersBeliefStatement

13

We believe AVID is a system that supports culturally responsive, equitable instruction to close the opportunity gap for all students.  AVID strives to develop strong leaders and introspective/interdependent learners who are empowered to pursue their goals. By focusing on the whole child and the strengths and unique talents each student brings, AVID provides a community where students feel valued and inspired.

Based on our belief statement, AVID district leaders are moving towards more closely aligning our institutional practices and systems  with our beliefs.

AVID has been very helpful to me in high school and beyond. I found use with the skills they taught me, such as note taking and making questions for Peer Study Groups. They both helped me stay organized during classes and kept me on my feet to be engaged during class. Finishing my first quarter of college, I continued to find these skills from AVID very useful. I continue to take notes everyday in class, use the methods my AVID teachers suggested us students use to study (such as utilizing the library and various forms of tutoring), and keep myself motivated with knowing that I can accomplish anything while in college.

WhytakeAVID?

25

Because it helps me build relationships and its very fun and I learn more about college/university like the information most students don’t know.

Because it helps me prepare for my classes and become a stronger student. It also helps me look into the future and get prepared for what life has to offer.

I love AVID. I am in AVID because I believe AVID is a place filled with opportunities. AVID will help me be prepared for my future and make steps easier for me and help me become a better person. AVID is the best place and thing that has ever happened to me for my education

I'm in AVID because I have an older cousin who was in it from grades 7-12 and it really helped her and now she is very successful in college right now.

I am in AVID because it’s a class that motivates me to feel and be more confident with what I do and also it has shown me many different opportunities I can have with my future.

I wanted to take an AP class, and I had friends in the class. I strongly believe in college education, so I wanted to take a class that would make me feel as prepared and motivated to go to college as possible.

Being able to create a safe group environment where I know that I have resources other than my teacher (even though he is a great resource) and I am able to use my peers. In AVID we all help in each other in AVID and outside of AVID in our other classrooms. By joining this class at the beginning of the year I automatically had a academically diverse group of kids I knew I could go to for help. The group environment and team that we as a class have created.
