Clarence Darrow’s Search for Justice is a portrait of the history of our legal profession and of Darrow-the man. This is a “warts and all” presentation. Darrow fell down hard and often. He was brilliant; a philanderer, a loving grandfather of three and he was an egotistical grandstander who may have been guilty of jury tampering. This is the man behind the legend, not always the hero and not always at his best, with serious legal problems of his own that scarred and haunted him forever. This is not a dry lecture but history alive. The attendees become the jury in every case discussed. The show is interactive as Mr. Darrow moves in and out of the audience asking questions which provokes introspection. Darrow was this country’s greatest warrior for social justice. His clients were vilified in the press and hated by the vast majority of Americans. His clients were the poor and defenseless of our nation. He defended the murderers, the reviled and the abominable. He was their voice when no other voices dare rise in their defense. Darrow said, “Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.” Darrow never lost a client who faced the death penalty and saved 102 men from execu-tion. His clients were the new immigrants to America, practicing unfamiliar religions, treated with suspicion and scorn. His trials and legal issues were, and still are immediate, controversial, and always inspiring. Anderson, as Darrow, shows how one man not only challenged injustice but affected the course of American Jurisprudence.
