Training for NGOs and Media

• November 2010 – Prague, hosted by United Nations, Prague

• Based on the methodology from Sofia training and the Diversity toolkit for media

• 2 sessions (media and NGOs), common session afternoon

• 30 participants (interest of both sides, more applicants than expected)

• Speakers: David Vaughan, Marek Jehlička, Tereza Rejšková

Training for NGOs and Media

Feedback

• Both sides interested in the topic: how to inform about migration and minority issues

• Journalists – public broadcast (Czech TV and Czech Radio)

• The best evaluated part – common afternoon session: exchange of opinions, comments and contacts

• Interest to continue in similar meetings (concrete topics – development policy, specific migration communities), lack of similar trainings

Conference on Media and reflection of a

multicultural society (March 2011, Prague)

• ½ day conference

• 30 participants (NGOs representatives, scholars, students,

less journalists)

• Experience from abroad and

from Czech media

Conference on Media and reflection of a

multicultural society

• Media influence on public opinion (Tomáš Trampota, FSV UK)

• Multicultural society in public media in the Netherlands (Frans Jennekens, NTR, EBU)

• Czech public media and multiculturalism (Milan Fridrich, ČT)

• Multicultural society and new media (Jaroslav Valůch, ČvT)

Video on: www.migrationonline.cz

Feedback

• Participants interested in topic (lack of similar events)

• Great inspiration from the Netherlands (multicultural programs in public broadcast)

• Best evaluated part – final discussion

• Lack of interest from the side of journalists (too general for them)

• For future projects: a more specific focus on one target group (young journalists, NGOs, migrants etc.)

General conclusion from the project (view of MKC Prague)• Importance to continue in similar projects (new topic in the Czech

Republic)

• Focused on one target group (media x NGOs – different needs)

• Diversity toolkit and DVD very useful – useful to create something similar based on Czech media experience

• A potential to work with migrants (NGOs) and young people

• Very good cooperation among partners

• Partner diversity from Central and Eastern Europe (similar experience) vs. from Western Europe (in some cases more developed tools than in the CR) – positive contribution to project results

Thank you for attention!
