    Sit

    Reading

    A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

    Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, Athenians, I seehow extremely religious you are in every way. For as I went throughthe city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I foundamong them an altar with the inscription, To an unknown god.What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The

    God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord ofheaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands,nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything,since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things.From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth,and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries ofthe places where they would live, so that they would search for Godand perhaps grope for him and find him though indeed he is not farfrom each one of us. For In him we live and move and have ourbeing; as even some of your own poets have said, For we too arehis offspring. Since we are Gods offspring, we ought not to thinkthat the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by theart and imagination of mortals. While God has overlooked the timesof human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere torepent, because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world

    judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and ofthis he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.

    This is the word of the Lord.

    Thanks be to God.

    THE CONSECRATION OF THE PEOPLE

    We are a temple of Gods indwelling Holy Spirit, yet we havegrieved him.

    The temple of our bodies does not belong to us, but was boughtat the price of Christs precious blood. So we come, in sorrowyet with confidence, to ask forgiveness of our Father in heaven.

    Zeal for your house has eaten me upand the taunts of those who taunt you have fallen upon me.Lord, have mercy.Lord, have mercy.

    I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my Godthan dwell in the tents of ungodliness.Christ, have mercy.

    Holy, holy, holy Lord,

    God of power and might,

    heaven and earth are full of your glory.

    Hosanna in the highest.

    Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

    Sit / Kneel

    Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness;

    grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,

    and according to your holy will,

    these gifts of bread and winemay be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;

    who, in the same night that he was betrayed,

    took bread and gave you thanks;

    he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

    Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;do this in remembrance of me.

    In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave youthanks;

    he gave it to them, saying:Drink this, all of you;this is my blood of the new covenant,which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

    Great is the mystery of faith:

    All Christ has died:Christ is risen:Christ will come again.

    And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross,his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world;
