T H E D epar tment of Education (DepEd) has started the MTB-MLE implementation just this school year, 2012-2013, in our basic education system for they want the learners to response rapidly and to express themselves totally in every teaching-learning process.

MTB-MLE or Mother Tongue Based-Multilingual Education refers to “first-language-first” education, the schooling which begins in the mother tongue and transitions to additional languages particularly Fili-pino and English. DepEd believed that if a child can-not fully express himself, he is inhibited to ask more why’s and tend to just keep quiet or just agree with what the teacher says.

Notable international

and local studies clearly showed the benefits to children who are edu-cated under the MTB-MLE method and pedagogy. Director Yolanda Qui-jano of DepEd’s Bureau of Elementary Education confirmed that based on studies the use of mother tongue in learning allows students to learn, read and write more quickly.

She added that learners learn a second and a third language more quickly when learning is first conducted in their first language. She also stressed that, these studies proved that learners who begin in their first language have more efficient cognitive development and are better prepared for more cogni-tively demanding subject matter. In other words, a

learner tends to be smarter if he starts his education using the mother tongue.

In order to make this curriculum a success for the learners, teachers also should be trained, be informed, and be given seminars on how to imple-ment MTB-MLE as a new curriculum in the basic education system.

There fore , D epE d Memorandum No. 357, series of 2010 was released to all regional directors, schools division/city su-perintendents, and heads of public elementary schools. This is designed to develop competent, creative, and resourceful MTB-MLE teachers who can provide relevant learning opportu-nities and experiences to their life-long literate and numerate learners.

Ang Unity Walk ug Covenant Signing ipahigay-on subay sa programang Secure and Fair Elections kon SAFE 2013. (uban sa report ni mta)

THINK a minute…Imagine we are on a large ship out on the ocean. The captain knows that there is a hole in the boat and we’re sinking, but he does not tell us passen-gers. Instead, he invites us all to go up to first class. All the beer and liquor is free. We’re a l lowed to party and do basically anything we want on the ship. Naturally, we passengers are loving our freedom. But all the time we’re partying and getting drunk, the ship continues to sink. Each minute brings us closer to our death. So what? Let’s eat, drink and be merry for

A sinking shipwe’re all going to die anyway, right? We might as well go out in style and have fun while it lasts.

This is actually the way many people live. They th ink they ’re free—through alcohol, drugs, sex with anyone they want, cheating for more money or status, and anything else that makes them feel good for awhile. But their life is a sinking ship! In-stead of being truly free, they’re actually slaves to their own appetites and uncontrolled physical desires for pleasure.

Their life is empty and they’re desperately trying to fill it with all kinds of pleasures, pros-

perity, or power. Yet, even though they know in their conscience that none of these things satisfy them for long, they keep doing it.

Jesus Christ did not come to bring us a lot of strict, boring rules that take all the fun out of

life. He actually came to save us from hurting and destroying ourselves, so we can finally be free from our own greed and uncontrolled physical urges. As the Maker of life, Jesus’ commands are simply life’s principles for real satisfaction and success.

His ways are like wings to a bird or sails to a ship. So why not finally get yourself free from your uncontrolled physical pleasures or greed? Just ask Jesus to forgive you and start changing you daily. Then you can begin to get the real satisfaction that lasts, not to mention be saved from sinking. Just Think a Minute…

(photo by Mike Baños of Mindanao Daily News)

also launched the Sundroid Rush bundle that offers a Smart-phone and a Tablet in just one sub-scription plan. Boasting notable connectivity features, including those for internet

sharing and WiFi service, Sun Cellular said the SunDroid offering is designed to perfectly suit today’s dynamic users of both 2G and 3G communication technologies.

All these unlimited services, Sun officials say, extend to 3G, as unlimited internet packages are offered at all price points. “We know we cannot go wrong with unlimited because that is what the market wants, so we designed viable offers also for our Sun Broadband customers,” Lim said.

Lim said underlining all of these unlimited innovations is a customer service experience that is best in class. Referring to a recent industry Customer Satisfaction Survey, he shared that the results showed that Sun topped the customer satisfaction ratings in the industry in terms of complaint resolution in both the postpaid and prepaid segments. “Our subscribers’ profile covers highly intelligent and practical consumers. We are glad that we are able to satisfy their expecta-tions for product utility, service quality, and customer service,” Lim explained.

According to Lim, Sun Cel-lular will continue introducing innovations that respond to the changing demands of the market including “unlimited” innovations, supporting the company’s position as the Good Choice.

Sun Cellular is a member of the PLDT Group.

The PSHEMS was created to build a culture that promotes safety, health and environmen-tal protection, reduce accidents and operating cost, improve community relations and for the site to be recognized as a safe and efficient port. CAGAYAN de Oro City – FOR their meritorious com-mitment and performance in the government’s pursuit to advance the rice sector, the Department of Agriculture (DA) will honor the 2012 Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers throughout the country, in-cluding two municipalities and 11 agricultural exten-sion workers (AEWs) from Northern Mindanao (Region 10), in an awarding rite on March 15, 2013 at the Phil-ippine Convention Center in Manila.

Envisioning the country as a surplus supplier of rice with the year 2013 as its earliest target, the depart-ment lauded the towns, namely: Kapatagan of Lanao del Norte (LDN) and Opol of Misamis Oriental as the outstanding rice municipali-ties. Meanwhile, emerging as the commendable AEWs are Sagrada P. Alvarez (Oroquieta City), Agnes Garcia Sue S. Butalid and Bonida A. Onos (Clarin) of Misamis Occidental.

Other honorees of the former category also include Emerita P. Capayas, Fede-lina M. Cuaresma, Manuel P. Sabillo, Fe A. Enriquez, Violeta B. Florin, Ma. Luisa Q. Gabutin, Estrella M. Mo-rilla and Josefina J. Sabillo of Kapatagan, LDN. Exemplifying as the ex-cellent rice towns, the DA chosen the abovesaid lumi-naries based on the follow-ing criteria, but not limited to the following conditions: increased rice production, area harvested and percent

contribution to the national/provincial rice production; total number of rice-related projects initiated and rice farmers served; and high quality rice seeds utilization. The department likewise selected the praiseworthy AEWs by going over through the services they have ren-dered in terms of number of trainings/Farmers’ Field Schools conducted, trainings attended, among others. As value to the rice achievers’ meritable efforts, the municipalities will be

bestowed with P 1 million worth of agricultural proj-ects while the AEWs will be granted with P 20,000 each as cash incentive. With the said recogni-tion, covering the 2011-2012 dry season and 2012 wet season, the DA is also expectant in encouraging more local government unit stakeholders to become more responsive and con-scientious in carrying out their respective functions and responsibilities. MOBILE phone operator Sun Cellular has reinvented its original invention, “the unlimited” service that has revolutionized the telco industry .

Sun Cellular’s Chief Executive Officer Orlando Vea says they have put new meaning to their unlimited services by launching new and expanded unlimited of-ferings and complementing them with an even better network.

“At the outset, Sun Cellular’s network was designed and built to provide unlimited services. And with the coverage, robustness and quality that the PLDT Group network has made available to Sun, everyone in the country can now benefit from the reinvented unlimited services that Sun offer,” Vea said.

Chief Operating Off icer Charles Lim, who has been with Sun Cellular since day one says they have deliberately chosen to provide unlimited services to the market because they listened to what the consumers wanted. “Once people were free of restraints, they changed their calling and texting habits, hence our products clicked in the market,” Lim explained.

Lim said their flagship product, the Php25 Call and Text Unlimited has been reinvented with add-ons that boost the current product offerings. “Add-ons include more texts to other networks and mobile internet minutes, which have all been well received by our sub-scribers,” Lim said.

For the postpaid segment, Sun also reinvented unlimited by making smartphones available to a wider market by making these available for as low as Php350 per month. Add-ons like mobile internet with anti-bill shock fea-tures make sure that the its current and potential subscribers could get to enjoy the full benefits of a smartphone at an assured least possible cost.

“After introducing affordable camera phones in the past to the mass market, we again listened to our customers by being first to of-fer smartphones to the entry-level segment. Not only can customers avail of one smartphone but for the whole family with our Group Plan 999. They can now take their mobile communication habits to a whole new level,” Lim said.

Late last year, Sun Cellular
