MONDAYS: 3-D BASKETBALL

Want   to   try   out   Basketball?   3D  Basketball  Academy   is  excited   to   introduce  an  after   school  program,  that   is   fun   and   allows   students   to   learn   new   skills.   The   program   teaches   athletes   the   necessary  fundamentals  required  to  succeed  in  the  sport  of  basketball.  Teaching  basic  skills  and  concepts  through  a  series   of   progressive   lesson   plans,   athletes   learn   the   premise   of   sound   decision-­‐making   and   strategy.  Constant  challenge  and  encouragement  will  be  stressed.    

MINI CHEFS  Come  out  and  make  delicious  snacks,  dishes  and  desserts.  The  dishes  we  will  prepare  are  quick  and  easy  to  more   advanced   skills   throughout   the   program.   Each  week  we  will   prepare   a   different   dish   ranging  from   baked   goods   to   snacks   as  well   as   quick  meals.  While   learning   to   cook,   you  will   also   learn   about  kitchen  safety,  and  nutrition  and  play  games  to  learn  about  the  different  food  groups  and  much  more.    Let’s  start  cooking!    

TUESDAYS:

GAME READY PLAY  This  is  a  fun  and  active  program  for  everybody.  All  will  improve  speed,  change  of  direction  and  agility.  In  addition   to   drills;   a   variety   of  workouts  will   be   incorporated   including   in   the   gym  and  outdoors.   Each  session  will  combine  a  disciplined  multi-­‐sport  focus  balanced  with  fun  and  games,  resulting  in  improved  speed,  agility  and  overall  conditioning.  The  goal  is  to  provide  physical  and  mental  confidence  to  play  and  participate  in  all  sports  and  activities  making  it  more  fun  and  successful.      

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

   Rhythmic Gymnastics is an elegant sport both in physique and performance. It involves the use of body movement with apparatus by throwing and catching the apparatus (rope, hoop, ball, ribbon, and clubs). Students will put the skills together in choreographed routines with music.

CRAFTY KIDZ  Come  out   and   enjoy   doing   a   different   craft   each  week   using   basic  materials   to   create   something   from  your  imagination.  Children  will  learn  how  to  use  materials  that  you  have  in  your  home  and  to  jump-­‐start  their  creativity.    

WEDNESDAYS:

TENNIS  Want   to   try   out   Tennis?   Introductory   tennis   is   a   fun  way   for   kids   to   learn   tennis   by   using  modified  racquets,   balls   and   nets   to   ensure   earlier   success   and   enjoyment.   The   instructor   is   a  NCAA  Division   1  athlete,  ranked  #1  in  Women’s  Open  in  BC.  She  will  use  fun  interactive  games  and  activities  to  develop  lifelong  tennis  skills  including  balance  &  coordination  in  a  safe  environment.    

SCIENCE ALIVE!  

 Science   Al!ve   is   a   student-­‐run   science   education   program   based   at   Simon   Fraser  University.   In   partnership   with   Community   Schools,   Science   Alive   is   a   fun-­‐filled  hands-­‐on   science   after   school   program.   This   after   school   program   will   introduce  children   to   the   amazing   world   of   science   and   technology   through   hands-­‐on   and  interactive  activities  and  demos  led  by  our  energetic,  creative,  and  expertly  trained  staff.  Topics  may  include:    chemistry,  biology,  physics,  earth  science,  computer  science  and  more!    

 LET’S DANCE

 Let`s  have  some   fun   learning  some  of   the   latest  dance  moves   in  hip-­‐hop  and   jazz  and   learn   to  develop  your   own   unique   style.   Put   your  moves   together   in   a   short   routine   you   can   perform   at   home   or  with  friends   to  your   favorite   tunes.   In   the   second  half   of   the   class  we`ll   learn   some  easy  gymnastics  on  our  tumbling  mats.   This   class  will   have   levels   so   you   can   progress   over   the   course   of   the   year   to   achieve  higher  levels  of  dance  and  Gymnastics.  Let`s  get  dancing!!

THURSDAYS: YOGA FOR KIDS

 Yoga  is  good  for  the  body  and  mind.    Children  will  relax  with  ‘warming  up’  exercises  to  music.  They  will  learn  the  purpose  of  yoga  poses.    The  program  will  include  Yin  stretching  poses,  Ashtanga  Vinyasa  to  strengthen  their  muscles  and  coordination  and  connecting  will  follow.  ‘Laughing  yoga’  especially  for  the  younger   kids   is   next.   The   final   poses  will   be   Savasana   to   promote   calmness   and  meditation.   The   goal   of  mindfulness   and   how   yoga   and   meditation   contribute   to   this   relaxed,   peaceful,   joyful   state   will   help  participants  to  unwind  and  rejuvenate  at  the  end  of  the  school  day.      

CODING AND DESIGN

BY: FUSION EDUCATION

This   after-­‐school   program   is   aimed   at   enhancing   students’   critical   and   creative   thinking   and   problem  solving  through  coding  and  design.  Through  guided  and  instructed  play,  students  will  use  the  Engineering  Design  Process  (EDP)  in  conjunction  with  coding  software  to  create  projects  including  games  and  solve  challenges.  By  exploring,  inquiring,  generating  ideas  and  testing  them,  students  will  understand  EDP  is  a  tool  they  can  apply  to  all  subjects  and  most  situations.

WHO’S LINE IS IT ANYWAY?  Richard  Wiens  is  P.L.A.Y.'s  house  improv  expert  and  he's  excited  to  bring  his  knowledge  and  comedic  timing  to  you.  Improv  and  theatre  sports  are  all  about  creativity,  thinking  on  the  spot  and  having  fun  and  this  class  has  all  of  that.

JURASSIC PARK ROBOTICS  Are   your   ready   for   an   adventure   of   a   life   time?   Put   on   your   hiking   boots   and  camouflage...your   about   to   enter   Jurassic   Brick   Land!   Builder  will   build   a  world   that  come   to   life   with   gentle   Brontosaurus,   ferocious   Velociraptor,   terrifying   T   Rex   and  more.  We'll   learn  about  amazing  dinosaurs  that  lived  in  the  Jurassic  period,  and  other  extinct,  prehistoric  animals   that  roamed  the  earth  and  swam  the  seas  during   that  era                and  millions  of  years  later.  Come  learn,  build,  and  play  with  Jurassic  Brick  Land!

How  to  Register     Our Community School After School Programs Registration is online and will accept payment using Visa; MasterCard or Interac/Debit from most major banks. You can get instant confirmation of your spots in the programs you choose. You will require an email address in order to get your confirmation # and print out a receipt for your payment. To access the registration website please visit the Miller Park Community School Website then click on the “Community Programs” button on the homepage. If you do not wish to register online there is still an option to register by filling out the paper registration forms. They are located on the Miller Park Community School website in the Community Programs Page or can be picked up at the Miller Park Community Office. Please return complete forms and payments by cash or cheque made payable to Miller Park Community School main office.

All registrations are on first come, first serve basis.  To register for Bricks4Kidz: Register online at www.Bricks4Kidz.com/coquitlam or fill out the forms located online at the Miller Park Community Programs website or pick them up at the Miller Park Community office and return to the office with complete forms and payment by cash or cheque made payable to Brick4Kidz.
