Overview L ake St. George State Park offers year-round activities and a popular campground. The centerpiece of the park is Lake St. George itself. Some of the park’s campsites are located right on the shoreline where a morning cup of coffee can be enjoyed while watching the sun rise over the crystal clear water. Loons are frequent visitors and their signature call can often be heard at night. The lake is 1,017 acres and numerous undeveloped islands dot the main basin of the lake. Fishing, for landlocked salmon bass, and brook trout, is a popular sport. The day-use area, just a short walk from the campground, offers lakeside picnic tables and grills, swings, horseshoe pit, basketball, and a sandpit for young children - all within easy reach of the swim beach. A group picnic shelter overlooks the beach and day-use area. A variety of watercraft such as canoes, paddleboats, row boats, paddle boards, and kayaks may be rented on site for exploring the park’s undeveloped shoreline. Walking is easy within the park south of Route 3. North of Route 3, hikers can take the steep and forested 0.5-mile River Trail to the Frye Mt-Liberty Trail, which is maintained by local snowmobile clubs, for a longer and more challenging walk.
