Prom 2015

“Masquerade Ball”

Report cards have gone home for a third time, spring break is over, and summer vacation is on the horizon. As hard as it is to believe, we are in the homestretch of the 2014-2015 school year. Please remember that everything that was important about school back in August is still equally important now: regular attendance and a focus on academic skills have to be a joint responsibility between home and school. Our students count on both for consistent support and encouragement.

Thank you for attending school-sponsored events, such as the College Night, Musicals, extra-curricular activities and conferences. When you come to school in the evening, you show all of our children that education IS vital for success. I am grateful for our school family all year long, especially when you take time out of your busy lives to come to stu-dent-centered activities. The weather has fi nally started to cooperate and I want to take this opportunity to thank parents, community members and students for their continued cooperation as we move through the make-up schedule. Students and teachers have worked very hard to take and administer state wide mandated assessments. We have to work together so our students have the best opportunity for success 21st Century summer school opportunities, camps and preschool and kindergarten regis-trations are in process. Together we can make a diff erence and Mrs. McConnell's 7th grade homeroom showed this by collect-ing items in to donate to the homeless shelters right here in Zanesville. During this time they learned that it is not only those that make wrong choices who end up homeless, but those who have lost jobs, those who have medical problems, debt that snowballed, or many veterans that were unable to receive or maintain a job aft er serving our country. Th e students wrote and sent letters to area businesses asking for donations and we would like to thank Dr. Parker's dentist offi ce for their large donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste.

If you would like to also help, see the list of items below. You can send items with your student to Mrs. McConnell’s room 2247; together we can make a diff erence.

Maysville High School continues to off er an open lab for students who want or need help in the area of mathematics. Th is year, though, the Mathematics Lab has also morphed into a sort of Puzzle Lab for some students. Maysville High School students who are current in their course-work, and in good academic standing overall, are able to work on jigsaw puzzles that the teacher or students bring to the lab. So far this school year, the “Puzzle Club” has assembled 12 jigsaw puz-

zles, the largest one containing 2,000 pieces! Suc-cessful and effi cient completion of a jigsaw puzzle in the lab requires perseverance and collabora-tion. In addition, “puzzling” employs a number of cognitive skills, including spatial reasoning and general problem solving skills. Th e students and the teacher agree that while the Puzzle Lab gives the students a break from the rigor of their regu-lar coursework, it is still an educationally valuable part of their day!

Th e third grade students have been learn-ing about our earth’s resources. Nicole Hafer, Education and Wildlife Specialist from Muskingum Water and Soil, recently visited our classrooms to discuss the importance

ing on Amphibians and Reptiles.

Maysville Father/Daughter DanceOur fi rst annual father/daughter dance was a huge success. We were very for-tunate that the weather cooperated with us. Th ank you to Captured by Cristen for donating your time to capture this moment for our dance. Th ank you to all that volunteered to help and to others that donated time, energy, supplies, equipment and talents. Without our volunteers and donations it wouldn’t have been possible. Most importantly, we would like to

thank the fathers and father fi gures that took time to take their daughters on a date; making memories to last a life-time. It was an amazing event. If you have not picked up your pictures please email Mrs. Merlo at [email protected] to make arrangements.

Basketball Cheerleading Comes to a Close

Winter 2014-2015 has been an eventful time for MHS Cheerleaders. Th ey have worked hard and it shows. Th ey look great in their new uniforms, bows and warmups. Th ey have spent countless hours fundrais-ing and selling half/half tickets to pay for these items. Th eir dedication and commitment to each other and the Maysville Community has impressed their coaches. With the close of the season we are heartbro-ken to say goodbye to two members of our cheer family. Paula Arroyo-Trejador is a JV cheerleader. She is an exchange student that will be heading back to Spain. Taylor Smith is a senior Varsity cheerleader. She has cheered on the Maysville Panthers for many years and will be headed off to college soon. We will miss both of these ladies and wish them a bright and happy future.
