From the Superintendent
Does the Miami East Local School District plan to open on August 26th with all students attending school five days per week?
It continues to be our hope to open on August 26th to all students. We know our community values our schools and desires for all students to safely return to classrooms on a daily basis. We share that same goal. We will have schedules, class lists, and bus routes “ready to go” for the first day. Our goal is to have students on campus on August 26th. Unfortunately, we just do not know what that opening will look like. Our return to school (including how many students will be allowed to attend daily) will be impacted by requirements by the state.
We are currently waiting for the Ohio Department of Health and the Governor’s recommendations. Currently, we are being directed that all students need to socially distance six feet apart from one another while on campus. If the six foot requirement continues classrooms would not have enough space for this to successfully occur with all students every day. Between now and the fall, those restrictions could be altered, extended, tightened, or possibly lifted. Miami East is currently working to be prepared for any and all of these possibilities.
On Tuesday, June 16th the Governor announced that updated school guidelines would be issued in the next two weeks. Our plan is to survey our parents after the recommendations have been released by the state.
We are also preparing for different contingencies if conditions change. Our district will have multiple plans; so that we can respond if state and/or county health officials require different mitigation efforts. On June 1st the district re-opened the campus for selected student groups following the Miami County Health Department approved re-opening plans. It has been great having students back on campus! The expectation is, as we get closer to the start of the school similar approved plans would need to be submitted to the Health Department for approval to begin school.

I am writing to you this afternoon with a heavy heart. After following closely the
various guidelines established by the State and exploring a variety of possible outdoor
performance opportunities, we have come to the conclusion that we are not going to
be able to carry out a summer production of The Music Man.
I want you all to know, that even as our doors close, our light remains bright. The arts
will return, future productions will eventually be held and we will be given the chance
to tell our story. I know, for many of you, there will not be another musical on the
Miami East Stage, but I hope that you will always consider us home.
Tickets - I know that many of you already had tickets purchased for our spring
production. Currently, there are two options in dealing with tickets, submitting your
tickets for a refund of your purchase price, or if you are able, consider this year's
ticket purchases to be a donation to our program to help us cover the cost of this
unfinished production.
If you would like a ticket refund, please contact Dr. Rappold with your tickets
about the refund process. Dr. Rappold can either be reached at 937-335-7505 or
Mr. Hurst
Work Permits Steps to Complete: Throughout the closure, Miami East is still completing Work Permits. There are 3 sections to a work permit that need completed.
The top section of the “Work Permit Application for Minors” is completed and signed
by the parent.
The second section of the “Work Permit Application for Minors” is filled out and signed
by the employer.
Lastly, a student must have a physical. If we have a sports physical on file and it is less
than 1 year old, we can use that.
Once both forms have been completed contact the Dr. Rappold to have the work permit
processed and submitted to the state. Please contact Superintendent, Dr. Rappold at
335-7505 ext. 1124 to make arrangements to have the office finalize the permit.
