Saco School Department New Staff Bio’s... Shea Brook, Art Teacher at Young School and Fairfield School. Painter and art educator Shea Brook was born in the small town of Kennebunkport, Maine. Growing up Brook was surrounded by family art, which was of great importance in shaping her early works. In High School at The Creative Learning Center, Brook volunteered teaching students art as well as at the River Tree Arts summer programs.

Brook went on after High School to Pratt Institute and then to the University of Maine Orono where she received a BFA in Studio Art with a minor in Art History.

Four years after earning her undergraduate degree Brook continued her education at the Maine College of Art receiving her Master Degree in Art Education with a sense of purpose; to share her artistic gift with the youth of Maine and help motivate students to grow at such an important age. Within the program Brook had opportunities teaching students grades K12 in various environments implementing Unit Plans and creating modifications for those in need. Brook is currently creating her own art as well as ensuring that her students are provided with the necessary skills and tools within the Arts to succeed.

Heather Eukitis, EL Teacher at Young School Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Heather Eukitis and I was born in 1978 as an Elementary School Teacher, although I didn’t know it at the time. The state of Florida, where I was raised, acknowledged the fact with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree in 2002 along with an ESOL endorsement. The state of Maine, where I have been living with my husband and my, now 8yearold, daughter for the past 13 years, further confirmed the fact by awarding me with a Special Education Certification in 2008 I have worked as a Residential Care Specialist and Inhome Support Counselor, as well as a Special Education and ELTeacher, but this is not just what I do, it is who I am. Being a positive influence of change in a child’s life is what I strive to do each day.

Kristin Brown, Social Worker/School Counselor at Fairfield School Kristen Brown was born in a small town in central Maine called East Millinocket. Growing up Brown played lots of sports, did a lot of volunteering and spent lots of time with family. Brown went on after High School to attend St. Joseph's College where she received her B.A. in Sociology/Psychology and Social Work. Brown is currently in a graduate program for school counseling. After college Brown moved on to the Department of Human Services and worked in the Child Protective Division for 18 years as a Social Worker. Brown's passion is helping, advocating, and supporting the growth of children and families. Brown is currently working at Fairfield School as a Social Worker/Counselor and providing children with the social skills necessary to being a successful member of the Fairfield Family.

Meghan Parkhurst, Kindergarten Teacher at Fairfield School Meghan was born in the small town of Brewer, Maine. Growing up Meghan discovered her love for learning, and helping others around her learn through coaching young children, volunteering at summer camps, working at afterschool programs, and reaching out to the youth in her community in any way she could. Meghan went on after high school to the University of Maine Orono, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Child Development. She is passionate about empowering young child while teaching them to have a love for learning. As quoted by Meghan, “I want my students to gain knowledge, friendship, leadership, group skills, and life skills in the classroom. I want them to expand their minds on content matter that is meaningful and rewarding. Together we will create a positive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable to grow.”

Hayley finishing the race before her relapse in 2014

The 9th Annual Hugs From Hayley event is Saturday, September 24th. There is a 5k run, a 2.5 mile walk, and a Kid‛s Fun Run for children under 10. (The Elle Dash) After the race there is a free

BBQ.

This is a great community event with all proceeds to benefit Maine Children‛s Cancer Program. The Kid‛s Fun Run is at 9:15, the 5k at 10:00, and the walk is at 10:15.

This race began in 2008 when the community came together to create a fundraiser to help the

Desjardins family whose daughter, Hayley Desjardins, was sick with a rare disease called Aplastic Anemia and received treatment at MCCP. It was called Hugs FOR Hayley. The year after the

Desjardins Family and the Elks Members decided to continue the race and give back to MCCP and the race was renamed Hugs FROM Hayley. Hayley relapsed in 2014 and received a bone marrow transplant in Boston, but still received much of her treatment at MCCP. Hayley is healthy once again and we are so fortunate to have a wonderful facility like Maine Children‛s Cancer program

close to our community. They have patients from all over Maine and New Hampshire.

You can register the day of the race between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

For more information about the event, you can visit our website: www.hugsfromhayley.com

This is a great way for Saco Families to rally together and get involved in a wonderful community event!!

C.K. Burns School News... Caleigh Pollard of The Element Group, Portsmouth, NH, came to discuss technical drawing and design with students in Mrs. Trottier's and Mrs. Moody's rooms recently.
