Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team closes out a two-game homes-tand Saturday night by welcoming Sacred Heart to the Charles L. Sewall Center for a 7:00 p.m.tip. The Colonials are coming off a 78-76 setback to Quinnipiac (1/12/12), marking the first timeRMU has dropped back-to-back games in almost a year. The Bobcats took control with a 10-3surge with just under eight minutes to play, and Quinnipiac sealed the victory with a 12-for-16performance at the free-throw line in the final 1:55 of action. Redshirt junior guard Velton Jonestied for game-high honors by scoring all 22 of his points in the second half as one of five Colonialsto reach double figures in scoring. Sophomore forward Mike McFadden and junior forward LijahThompson each posted 11 points, while sophomore guard Anthony Myers and freshman forwardLucky Jones each finished with 10 points. Quick Stat of the Night - Robert Morris received a spark off the bench in Thursday’s game againstQuinnipiac, as the reserves combined for 31 points, the second highest total of the 2011-12 cam-paign. Sophomore forward Lijah Thompson and freshman forward Lucky Jones combined for 21points and nine rebounds as the RMU frontcourt put forth one of its best games of the season.Combined, the six forwards to see action against the Bobcats combined for 42 points and 15 re-bounds and shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the floor. Thursday’s Opponent and The All-Time Series -Robert Morris and Sacred Heart will tip on thehardwood for the 21st time Saturday, with theColonials holding a 12-8 (.600) advantage in theall-time series. When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of AthleticsCraig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketballprogram, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 35-yearDivision I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May11, 2010, and the 2011-12 campaign marks his second season as head coachof the Colonials. He owns an overall record of 30-20 (.600).

Anyone familiar with the success RMU has had in recent seasons should be familiar with Toole.Named as former head coach Mike Rice’s top assistant in 2007-08, Toole spent the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons as Associate Head Coach at Robert Morris. In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole continued RMU’s recent run of success, leading theColonials to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of the 12-6 (.667) in the Northeast Con-ference. Robert Morris advanced to its third straight NEC Tournament championship game, falling shyof earning its third consecutive title before falling in overtime to Long Island, 85-82. Despite a roster that features just one senior for the second straight year, Toole will lead a programin 2011-12 that is looking for its third NEC Tournament championship in four years, a feat that has beenaccomplished only once in league history. The Colonials won the 1989, 1990 and 1992 NEC Tournamentcrowns. “Our players are not old, but they should have an understanding of what it takes to win,” Toole said.“Let’s take the last 10 or 12 games of last year and now mesh the new guys in and keep going in the rightdirection.” Toole is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the lastfive years. The Colonials own NEC records for victories over the span of two, three, four and five years. Since the beginning of the 2006-07 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 108-56 (.659),with the 108 victories both a school and NEC record for a five-year span. Since Toole joined the staff in2007-08, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 91-45 (.669). While RMU’s overall success is apparent, the program’s accomplishments in the NEC are also clear. Over the last four years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 58-14 (.806) against league oppositionand enter the 2011-12 season having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008 and 2009 and shared the champi-onship in 2010 with Quinnipiac with Toole as a member of the staff. RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac inthe 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn. In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT),dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010,RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning their sixth and seventh NECTournament championships, respectively. In the 2009 NCAA Tournament as a No. 15 seed, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-upMichigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at theDunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime. At 31 years old, Toole is the youngest head coach at the Division I level. Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at LafayetteCollege in Easton, Pa. While an assistant with the Leopards, Toole assisted in all facets of the program, from recruiting toplayer development. He was responsible for helping recruit student-athletes that helped lead Lafayetteto the 2010 Patriot League Tournament championship game against Lehigh. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J. He served asthe director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic, where he handled logistical management forthe nation's largest high school exposure camp. Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) beforetransferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.Toole, who married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, resides in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt.Lebanon, Pa.

RMU’s Last Game - Quinnipiac shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the field in the second halfand 58.5 percent (24-for-41) overall in climbing out of an eight-point halftime deficit to posta 78-76 win over Robert Morris, Jan. 12, at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Colonials held theBobcats to just a pair of free throws in the final 8:35 of the first half and used a 10-2 run to takea 35-27 advantage at the break. Five different players scored for Robert Morris during thesurge, including five points from junior forward Lijah Thompson as well as a dunk from seniorforward Lawrence Bridges. In the first seven minutes of the second half, Quinnipiac hit six ofits seven shots from the field in putting together a 16-6 run to take a 43-41 lead with 13:04 toplay. Ike Azotam scored seven points, while Evan Conti scored four points. Redshirt juniorguard Velton Jones helped stem the tide by hitting a three-pointer to push the Colonials backin front, 44-43, and freshman forward Lucky Jones hit a pair from the stripe to extend RMU'slead to 46-43. The game featured eight ties and nine lead changes, and Quinnipiac took controlin the final eight minutes with a 10-3 surge that featured a pair of three-pointers from JamesJohnson and jumpers from Azotam and Dave Johnson. The run turned a 52-52 deadlock into a62-55 lead for the Bobcats, and Quinnipiac kept Robert Morris at bay thanks to a pair of layupsfrom Azotam and a 12-for-16 performance at the free-throw line in the final two minutes. Board Games - A big key to the success that Robert Morris has had over the last five sea-sons has been due in large part to the program’s ability to crash the boards. Since thebeginning of the 2007-08 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 78-13 (.857) whenthe Colonials are even or better in rebounding in a game, including a 74-11 (.871) markwhen outrebounding their opponent. In Andrew Toole’s two seasons as head coach, RMUhas posted a record of 22-7 (.759) when outrebounding its opponent, including a markof 8-3 (.727) in 2011-12. RMU hosts Sacred Heart Saturday leading the circuit in rebound-ing defense, allowing an average of just 30.5 caroms per contest. Over their last 12 con-tests, the Colonials own a rebounding margin of +7.3, including six times over thatstretch posting a rebounding margin of at least +13.

Four Score and ... In a 64-54 win over Hampton (12/20/11), Robert Morris had four play-ers reach double figures in scoring as redshirt junior guard Velton Jones paced the Colo-nials with 18 points. Joining Jones was freshman forward Lucky Jones (16), sophomoreforward Mike McFadden (11) and redshirt sophomore guard Coron Williams (10). In nineof RMU’s 18 games so far this season, at least four Colonials have scored in double fig-ures, with Robert Morris owning a record of 6-3 (.667) in those contests. In the two sea-sons Andrew Toole has been the head coach at Robert Morris, the Colonials are 12-6(.667) when at least four players score in double figures in a game.

The Daytona 500 - Redshirt junior forward Russell Johnson has been RMU’s most con-sistent rebounder over the last three years, and he continues to produce on the glass in2011-12. Through the first 18 games of the year, Johnson has grabbed 97 boards, an av-erage of 5.4 per game that ranks second for the Colonials. The program’s active leadingrebounder with 485 career caroms, Johnson is looking to become the 16th player inschool history to join the 500-rebound club and the first since former Colonial JeremyChappell (2005-09) turned the trick during the 2008-09 campaign. Johnson enters Sat-urday’s game against Sacred Heart 15 rebounds shy of joining the 500-rebound club andowns a season-high of nine rebounds on two occasions.

30-for-30 - Robert Morris has made a point to attack the basket in the early portion ofthe 2011-12 campaign, and the results are encouraging. In a 72-64 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette (12/17/11), the Colonials tied a season high by visiting the charity stripe 35times, converting 26 (74.3 percent). RMU has now won 34 consecutive games when vis-iting the charity stripe at least 30 times in a game. The last loss for the Robert Morriscame in the 2002 NEC Tournament, when the Colonials suffered an 85-76 loss to UMBC(3/1/02) despite going 24-for-31 (77.4 percent) at the chalk. Through its first 18 gamesof the 2011-12 campaign, RMU is averaging 23.3 free-throw attempts per contest.

Luck of the Draw - Freshman forward Lucky Jones has been a consistent presence onthe glass for Robert Morris in the early portion of the 2011-12 campaign, as he entersSaturday’s game against Sacred Heart leading RMU in rebounds with 108, an average of6.0 per contest. Jones finished with 10 points against Quinnipiac (1/12/12), marking thesixth time in the last 11 games he’s reached double figures in scoring. Over that span,Jones is averaging 9.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest. Despite struggling with hisshot in 2011-12, Jones is proving to be an adept free-throw shooter. On the 2011-12 cam-paign he owns a conversion rate of 83.9 percent (52-for-62) at the chalk, which ranksthird in the Northeast Conference. De-spite a 68-53 setback @ Central Connecticut State (1/7/12) to close out a five-game roadtrip, Robert Morris still owns a record of 77-16 (.828) since the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. The Charles L. Sewall Center

Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at theCharles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 andnamed for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tourna-ment champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in thelast 26 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NECTournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No.2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed FairleighDickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Se-wall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fanspacked into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St.Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green(2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift theColonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morriswomen’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament champi-onships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for ThreeOver the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris havebecome synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are still topsin the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game.Since the start of the 2001-02 season, the Colonials have averaged 7.07 three-pointers percontest, tied with St. Francis (N.Y.), which has also averaged 7.07 three-pointers a game. In2010-11, guard Karon Abraham paced Robert Morris by draining 59 three-pointers, whileredshirt freshman guard Coron Williams finished with 48.
