Founded in 1819 by Captain Aldridge
Partridge, Norwich University is nestled
in the Green Mountains in Northfield,
Vermont. Norwich is the nation’s oldest
private military college.
Today Norwich University offers edu-
cational opportunities for both undergrad-
uate and graduate students. The
undergraduate experience offers a choice
of being in the Corps of Cadets or as a
civilian student. Both lifestyles are inte-
grated within the classroom, athletic
teams and student organizations.
Norwich’s undergraduate student pop-
ulation of 2200 hail from 40 different
states and 20 foreign countries. Eighty-
one percent of the 157 faculty hold termi-
nal degrees. Norwich boasts a student to
faculty ratio of 14:1 and is proud of its
long tradition of excellence in teaching
and personal attention given to students.
Thirty academic programs, including
a teacher/education licensure program,
and four ROTC programs are offered.
Norwich is the birthplace of the ROTC
program due to the innovative educa-
tional methods of Alden Partridge.
As an NCAA Division III school, the
University sponsors varsity athletic com-
petition in men’s and women’s ice
hockey, football, men’s and women’s bas-
ketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s
and women’s cross country, baseball,
softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse,
women’s volleyball, wrestling, men’s ten-
nis and men’s and women’s swimming
and diving, as well as men’s and women’s
rugby.
On campus Norwich offers 80 clubs
and organizations including academic and
professional societies, special interest
clubs and a range of religious, military
and community service organizations.
Under its School of Graduate Studies,
Norwich offers 10 online graduate de-
grees at the Master’s level and one certifi-
cate program. Enrollment in the graduate
school is 1200 students.
Norwich University is located in
Northfield, Vt., just 15 miles from Mont-
pelier, the state capital.

Well into his fourth decade of
service to Norwich University,
Anthony Mariano continues to
provide to a Norwich Athletics
program that has attained un-
precedented levels of success.
The 2003-04 season was arguably the finest in school
history as all 16 varsity sports teams competed in post-
season action, highlighted by the football team’s first
bowl appearance in 20 years, and the men’s ice hockey
team competing in its sixth Division III “Frozen Four.”
Additionally the Norwich men’s rugby team qualified
for the 16-team USA Rugby Collegiate Championship
for the first time in program history.
Mariano is in his 18th year as the Director of Inter-
collegiate Athleticsm after spending his first 16 seasons
in Northfield as a coach. He was the head men’s soccer
coach from 1978-84, before being named head nen’s ice
hockey coach in 1982. Under Mariano’s guidance the
Norwich men’s ice hockey team made its first postsea-
son appearance in 1984, and went on to appear in seven
ECAC tournaments and earn two NCAA Championship
berths, Mariano stepped down in as head coach in 1992
when he assumed his current duties as athletic director.
Mariano is a 1974 graduate of St. Lawrence Univer-
sity with a degree in Physical Education. He recieved
his master’s degree from Norwich in 1975. Tony and his
wife Gail reside in Northfield. They have an adult son
named Tom.

Amanda Cuiffo enters her seventh
year as the head volleyball coach and
senior woman administrator at Nor-
wich and her second as the associate
director of athletics.
Prior to arriving at Norwich, Cuiffo served as the head
women’s tennis coach at Brandeis University and assistant
volleyball coach at Bentley College.
Cuiffo is a 2002 graduate of Colby College, where she
captained both the volleyball and tennis teams. In volley-
ballm she was named the All-New England “Rookie of the
Year”in 1998 and was twice selected to the All-NESCAC
second team. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Cuiffo
went on to earn an M..S. in Exercise and Sports Studies from
Smith College.

Mark Adkins was named Norwich
University’s sports information direc-
tor in May 2011. Prior to joining the
Cadets’ sports information staff, he
served as sports information director at
Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa,
his alma mater, from August 2000-June 2011.
Adkins serves as national vice chair of the College Sports
Information Directors’ of America’s (CoSida) Fred S. Stabley
writing contest and is also the director of new media for
CoSida’s academic All-American national committee.
He has served on national voting polls for D3Football.com,
D3Soccer.com, D3Hoops.com and D3Baseball.com and is
also a voting participant for the National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association’s Division III Player of the Week process.
Adkins and his wife, Terri, and daughter, Callie, reside in
Northfield.

David Botelho is in his 17th season
as the head athletic trainer as Norwich
University, while serving as a clinical
intructor in the athletic training educa-
tion program at Norwich.
Botelho came to Norwich from
Hampton University where he served for four years in the
same capacity.
Botelho is a 1989 graduate of Rhode Island College with
a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Psychology.
He earned a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis
in Athletic Training form Old Dominion University in 1991.
He also taught classes in the prevention and care of athletic
injuries at Hampton and and ODU. Botelho is certified by
bothe the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and
the American Red Cross.
Botelho resides in Essex Juntion with his wife, Gayle, and
their sons Jake, Brady and Dylan.

Charlie Crosby is in his seventh year
in the Norwich University athletic
department, transitioning into the
role of associate sports information
director after serving as the interim
sports information director for the
2010-11 academic year. Crosby had previously spent three
years as the assistant sports information director.
Prior to his work in athletic communications, Crosby
served his alma mater in as the Director of Major Gifts in
the NU Office of Institutional Advancement. Before that, he
was a sales manager for LeCroym a New York-based firm
that designs, builds and sells digital high-speed oscillo-
scopes.
Crosby is a 1963 graduate of Norwich University. He
was a member of both the baseball and rifle teams at NU
during his college days. In 2001, he was inducted into the
Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Crosby and his wife Carole reside in Northfield. They
have two daughters and two granddaughters. One of his
granddaughters will be a sophomore at Norwich this fall.

Jeff Kruger, C.S.C.S., is beginning his
sixth year as the head strength and con-
ditioning coach at Norwich University.
Kruger came to Norwich from St.
Cloud (Minn.) State, where he served
as the strength and conditioning graduate assistant for two
years. Prior to that he interned at the University of Min-
nesota. Kruger helped implement an Olympic-based strength
program for the Gophers and assisted with numerous analysis
and performance programs.
Kruger graduated from the University of Wisconsin-
Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion
and Wellness. He earned his MBA from St. Cloud in 2009.
Kruger and his wife Jenny reside in Northfield. Kruger
pastimes include fishing and watching Minnesota Vikings
football.

Scott Mullen begins his eighth sea-
son as Norwich’s equipment manager.
A 1984 graduate of Norwich, Mullen
previously served for 13 years as the
assistant equipment manager at Dart-
mouth College, where he worked with
a variety of Ivy League championship teams.
Mullen and his wife Mellissa are the proud parents of two
children, Shawn (16) and Sarah (11). In his free time, Mullen
enjoys exercising and spending time with his family.

Booth knows where the road map to success lies for his
team.
“We’ll look to three important upperclassmen players
for leadership,” he said. “With them on the team, there
is experience of what need to do to reach our goals.”
NU’s nucleus consists of junior guards Josh Cabrera
(Providence, R.I.) and Ryan Williams (Dallas, Texas)
and senior forward Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.). Davis
led the 2010-11 squad in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding
(nine pg), blocked shots (26), and field goal percentage
(50.6). Cabrera ranked third in scoring (10.7 ppg) and
joined his fellow front court mate Williams to be an ef-
fective one-two punch from outside the arc, hitting 38
of 104 attempts for 36.5 percent. He was also the top
performer at the charity stripe a year ago, hitting at 81.3
percent. Williams canned 31 of 84 three-point tries
(36.9) and was one of the four Cadets’ players to average
in double figures in scoring (10.6).
“Those three are our strength coming in,” Booth, who
enters his 19th season, said. “The key to this season will
be how the rest of the guys can come in and step into
their roles. We have some players who have opportuni-
ties to get some strong playing time. It’s up to them what
they do with that.”
NU’s head coach feels good about his perimeter game
with Cabrera and Williams leading the way and the
sophomore tandem of Alex Meyers (Laguna Niguel,
Calif.) and Tommy McDonald (Groton, Mass.) joining
them. McDonald appeared in all but one game a year
ago, while Meyers saw action in over half of the games
with 14 appearances.
“Both Alex and Tommy were able to get on the floor
as freshmen which helps them coming in,” Booth said.
“I like what this group offers us. They give us a strong
outside shooting presence.”
Inside the paint, Booth admits the Maroon and Gold
will need to see their young players develop quickly.
“Antonio made tremendous steps between his soph-
omore and junior seasons,” he said. “His progress was
tremendous and hopefully we continue to see him im-
prove in that way.”
Junior Ian Marquis (Stratton, Vt.) and sophomore Ian
Boyko (Whitefield, N.H.) are the two early possibilities
to provide support for Davis and the Cadets on the in-
side. Marquis appeared in 13 games a year ago. Booth
also mentioned junior Brandon Kuhre (Lebanon, N.H.)
and freshman Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) as options.
Kurhe played in all 27 games and started nine times in
2010-11.
“We really need those four to step up and produce,”
Booth said. “It’s very important to how this season
goes.”
“Overall, it’s a nice situation for us to have the re-
turning strength of those three key lettermen plus
some individuals who got some key playing time last
season,” he added. “As I mentioned earlier, it all
comes down to how fast the new guys can step in and
perform at this level.”
The Cadets open the campaign November 15 when
traditional rival Plattsburgh State visits Andrews Gym-
nasium for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Other highlights for the
2011-12 team include the annual Ed Hockenbury Clas-
sic December 3 and 4 and the opening of the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference slate Dec. 8.
NOTES: Norwich looks to resume its recent suc-
cess on the hardwood. The Cadets finished 16-11 a
year ago and 13-13 and 2009-10. … Booth hopes that
a strong finish to the 2010-11 slate resumes with the
beginning of 2011-12. Norwich ended last year win-
ning six of its final nine games. … The upperclassman
trio of Cabrera, Davis and Williams made itself known
in the box scores a year ago. The trio was among the
leading scorers 14 times and the leading rebounders 19
times.

Booth came to Norwich in 1993 and took over a team that had posted a 1-23 record the previous season. He
made an immediate impact on the program as he led the Cadets to a very respectable 12-13 mark during his first
year on the sidelines. The dramatic improvement resulted in the team being recognized as the "Most Improved
Team" in New England as voted on by the New England Basketball Coaches' Association. Booth then led NU to
back-to-back 14-12 records in 1996 and 1997, marking the first consecutive winning seasons at the school in
nine years.
From 2002-2007, Booth guided Norwich to a school-record five consecutive winning seasons. The Cadets just
missed extending that streak to six straight years, compiling a 12-13 mark last season.
Booth is a 1983 graduate of St. Joseph's College (Vt.). He began his coaching career that same year at Hudson
Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y. The Vikings won 20 games that season and went to the Region III
Playoffs, eventually losing to Champlain College.
Booth later spent three years at Springfield College, serving as assistant varsity coach and junior varsity head
coach. While at Springfield, he completed his master's degree in 1988.
Later that year, Booth moved on to Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. In the 1991-92 season, he led the Ter-
riers to a 15-11 record and the NAIA District V Playoffs. Thomas earned a nomination as one of the most im-
proved teams in New England following that season.
Booth directed the Terriers for five seasons before coming to Norwich.
In 1997, Booth was selected to be the program coordinator for the first Adidas ABCD Basketball Camp that was
held in Tel Aviv, Israel. Among the many coaches and players there, he worked with NBA Hall of Famer Ka-
reem Abdul-Jabbar. Booth also runs a two-week basketball camp at Norwich every August.
Paul and his wife Susan reside in Northfield with their sons Ryan and Kyle.
Paul Booth is embarking upon his 19th season at the helm of the Norwich University
men's basketball program. Booth is NU's all-time leader in career wins (195). He
passed the legendary Ed Hockenbury on the all-time wins list during the 2007-08
campaign. Hockenbury previously held the record with 182 career victories.

Dave Dubuc is in his first season as
the assistant coach for the Norwich
men's basketball program in 2011-12.
Dubuc spent last year as an assistant at Western New
England University where he contributed in daily prac-
tice planning and game management in regards to defen-
sive and offensive sequencing while also playing a key
role in player development and guiding the Bears’ re-
cruiting process.
Before joining the WNEU staff, Dubuc was a head var-
sity girls basketball coach at South Hadley (Mass.) High
School from 2007-10 and was an assistant varsity boys
basketball coach at the same school from 2002-07. While
on the boys’ staff, South Hadley won three Western Mas-
sachusetts section titles and advanced to the state semi-
finals.
Dubuc earned his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of
Arts degrees in biology and history from Springfield Col-
lege in 2005. He’s currently working towards a Bachelor
of Arts degree in history through Holyoke Community
College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Dan Gauthier enters his ninth sea-
son as an assistant on the Norwich
men's basketball coaching staff. His responsibilities in-
clude out-of-region and international recruiting, individ-
ual skill development, on-floor coaching and game
management.
As a student, Gauthier served as the team manager dur-
ing his first two years, before being promoted to student
assistant coach during his junior year. During that time,
the Cadets earned an ECAC tournament bid and won
back-to-back GNAC championships in 2005 and 2006.
Norwich also hosted a first-round NCAA tournament
game and defeated Elms College to advance to the sec-
ond round in 2006.
A 2008 graduate of Norwich University, Gauthier was
a member of the Corps of Cadets and earned his Bach-
elor of Science degree in computer & electrical engi-
neering. He currently resides in South Burlington, Vt.
and works as an engineering assistant for Instrumart.
Gauthier, who also serves as an assistant coach for the
NU women's volleyball program, is currently pursuing
a Master's degree in Business Administration through
Norwich.
