The Colonials are coming off a 64-47 setback @ Memphis (12/29/11), which snapped a three-game winning streak. RMU established season lows in both points (47) and field goal percentage (23.2 percent) as freshman forward Lucky Jones was the only Colonial to reach double figures in scoring, leading Robert Morris with 10 points. Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones finished with just seven points against the Tigers, snapping a streak of 19 consecu- tive double-figure scoring games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign. RMU returns to Northeast Conference action to close out its five-game road swing after taking on the Bobcats, visiting Smithfield, R.I., for a 7:00 p.m. tip against Bryant Thursday, Jan. 5, before a 3:30 p.m. tilt against Central Connecticut State Saturday, Jan. 7, at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, Conn. Quick Stat of the Night - Despite having his streak of 19 straight games scoring in double figures snapped by finishing with seven points @ Memphis (12/29/11), a key reason redshirt junior guard Velton Jones was able to put together that streak is his ability to get to the free-throw line. Jones finished 3-for-4 at the stripe against the Tigers and on the 2011-12 campaign is 73-for-100 (73 percent) at the chalk. Jones, who is averaging 7.1 visits to the free-throw line and 5.2 free throws made per game so far this season, is on pace to establish a new Robert Morris single-season record for free throws. The record of 151 is held by former Colonial Gabe Jackson (1992-95), who estab- lished the mark as a senior in 1994-95. Based on his current averages, Jones is on pace to finish with 161 free throws in 2011-12, and he enters Monday’s game @ Ohio ranked 14th all-time at RMU in career free throws made with 263. Monday’s Opponent and The All-Time Series - Robert Morris and Ohio will tip for the ninth time Monday, with the two teams having split the previous eight matchups. The Colonials have won two straight in the all-time series after posting a 79-76 overtime victory over the Bob- cats in last season’s meeting at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio (1/2/11). In that contest four Colonials reached double figures in scoring, led by guard Karon Abraham, who finished with 28 points. Redshirt junior forward Russell John- son chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds, while redshirt sophomore guard Coron Williams finished with 14 points off the bench. 2010-11 RMU Basketball NEC Champions: 1982, 1983, 1989, 1990, 1992, 2009, 2010

When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of AthleticsCraig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketballprogram, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 35-yearDivision I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May11, 2010, and the 2011-12 campaign marks his second season as head coachof the Colonials. He owns an overall record of 28-18 (.609).

Anyone familiar with the success RMU has had in recent seasons should be familiar with Toole.Named as former head coach Mike Rice’s top assistant in 2007-08, Toole spent the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons as Associate Head Coach at Robert Morris. In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole continued RMU’s recent run of success, leading theColonials to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of the 12-6 (.667) in the Northeast Con-ference. Robert Morris advanced to its third straight NEC Tournament championship game, falling shyof earning its third consecutive title before falling in overtime to Long Island, 85-82. Despite a roster that features just one senior for the second straight year, Toole will lead a programin 2011-12 that is looking for its third NEC Tournament championship in four years, a feat that has beenaccomplished only once in league history. The Colonials won the 1989, 1990 and 1992 NEC Tournamentcrowns. “Our players are not old, but they should have an understanding of what it takes to win,” Toole said.“Let’s take the last 10 or 12 games of last year and now mesh the new guys in and keep going in the rightdirection.” Toole is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the lastfive years. The Colonials own NEC records for victories over the span of two, three, four and five years. Since the beginning of the 2006-07 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 108-56 (.659),with the 108 victories both a school and NEC record for a five-year span. Since Toole joined the staff in2007-08, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 91-45 (.669). While RMU’s overall success is apparent, the program’s accomplishments in the NEC are also clear. Over the last four years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 58-14 (.806) against league oppositionand enter the 2011-12 season having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008 and 2009 and shared the champi-onship in 2010 with Quinnipiac with Toole as a member of the staff. RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac inthe 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn. In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT),dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010,RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning their sixth and seventh NECTournament championships, respectively. In the 2009 NCAA Tournament as a No. 15 seed, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-upMichigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at theDunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime. At 31 years old, Toole is the youngest head coach at the Division I level. Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at LafayetteCollege in Easton, Pa. While an assistant with the Leopards, Toole assisted in all facets of the program, from recruiting toplayer development. He was responsible for helping recruit student-athletes that helped lead Lafayetteto the 2010 Patriot League Tournament championship game against Lehigh. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J. He served asthe director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic, where he handled logistical management forthe nation's largest high school exposure camp. Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) beforetransferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.Toole, who married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, resides in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt.Lebanon, Pa.

RMU’s Last Game - Robert Morris saw its three-game winning streak snapped, Dec. 29, with a64-47 setback to Memphis at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. Will Barton had 27 points and13 rebounds and the Tigers held the Colonials under 20 percent shooting for most of the game.Barton was 10-of-15 from the field, including a career-high five three-pointers. Adonis Thomasadded 15 points for Memphis, which hit 11 of its first 16 shots in the second half to put the gameaway, eventually leading by as many as 28 points. Freshman forward Lucky Jones was the onlyRobert Morris player in double figures, scoring 10 points. Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones, the leading scorer for the Colonials at 16.6 points per game coming in, saw his streak of 19straight games in double figures snapped. He recorded seven points, hitting only 2-of-13 shotsfrom the field. The Colonials finished the night shooting a season-low 23.2 percent (16-for-69),including 16.7 percent from the arc (3-for-18). Part of RMU’s poor shooting came due to Mem-phis’ interior defense, which tallied a season-high 13 blocks, including a career-high seven byTarik Black. The Memphis defense offset 20 turnovers by the Tigers, and allowed the Colonialsto corral 23 offensive boards. Still, Memphis outrebounded RMU, 42-39. Robert Morris strug-gled from the field from the outset, ending the first half at 19.4 percent (6-for-31). Memphisshot 47.8 percent (11-for-23) before intermission. That helped the Tigers take a 32-18 lead intothe locker room. Barton had 15 at halftime to lead Memphis. Part of the problem for RobertMorris was a Memphis defense that was turning away shots at the rim. The Tigers blocked eightshots in the first half. Sophomore forward Mike McFadden led Robert Morris on the glass bygrabbing a career-high nine rebounds while scoring seven points. He also added a pair of steals.Sophomore guard Anthony Myers added eight points and led the Colonials in both assists (3)and steals (4) as RMU finished with 12 thefts on the game.

Robert Morris Quick FactsKeep It On the Down Low - Robert Morris enters the new year coming off the final monthof 2011 in which it posted a record of 6-2 (.750) in December. Not surprisingly, defensewas at the center of RMU’s success, as the Colonials did not allow any of their eight op-ponents during the month to reach the 70-point plateau. RMU yielded an average of 58.1points per contest, and the streak of eight straight games of not allowing at least 70points in a game ties a Robert Morris school record. The 2008-09 Colonials also turnedthe trick in eight straight games, including their final five regular-season contests andthree victories in the 2009 NEC Tournament en route to their sixth league championship.

Board Games - A big key to the success that Robert Morris has had over the last four sea-sons has been due in large part to the program’s ability to crash the boards. Since thebeginning of the 2007-08 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 76-12 (.864) whenthe Colonials are even or better in rebounding in a game, including a 72-10 (.878) markwhen outrebounding their opponent. In Andrew Toole’s two seasons as head coach, RMUhas posted a record of 20-6 (.769) when outrebounding its opponent, including a markof 6-2 (.750) in 2011-12.

Streaker - By finishing with just seven points @ Memphis (12/29/11), redshirt juniorguard Velton Jones had his streak of double figure scoring games dating back to last sea-son snapped at 19. Over that span, Jones averaged 16.6 points per contest. The streakstands as the third longest in school history, falling one game shy of becoming only thethird player in school history to score at least 10 points in a game in 20 consecutive con-tests. A look at the top five streaks in school history for consecutive double-figure scor-ing games ...

In eightof RMU’s 14 games so far this season, four Colonials have scored in double figures, withRobert Morris owning a record of 6-2 (.750) in those contests. In the two seasons AndrewToole has been the head coach at Robert Morris, the Colonials are 12-5 (.706) when atleast four players score in double figures in a game.

The Daytona 500 - Redshirt junior forward Russell Johnson has been RMU’s most con-sistent rebounder over the last three years, and he continues to produce on the glass in2011-12. Through the first 14 games of the year, Johnson has grabbed 77 boards, an av-erage of 5.5 per game that ranks second for the Colonials. The program’s active leadingrebounder with 465 career caroms, Johnson is looking to become the 16th player inschool history to join the 500-rebound club and the first since former Colonial JeremyChappell (2005-09) turned the trick during the 2008-09 campaign. Based on his currentrebounding average, Johnson is on pace to become the 21st player in school history toaccumulate 500 career rebounds Saturday, Jan. 21, @ Monmouth.

30-for-30 - Robert Morris has made a point to attack the basket in the early portion ofthe 2011-12 campaign, and the results are encouraging. In a 72-64 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette (12/17/11), the Colonials tied a season high by visiting the charity stripe 35times, converting 26 (74.3 percent). RMU has now won 34 consecutive games when vis-iting the charity stripe at least 30 times in a game. The last loss for the Robert Morriscame in the 2002 NEC Tournament, when the Colonials suffered an 85-76 loss to UMBC(3/1/02) despite going 24-for-31 (77.4 percent) at the chalk. The Charles L. Sewall Center

Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at theCharles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 andnamed for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tourna-ment champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in thelast 26 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NECTournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No.2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed FairleighDickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Se-wall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fanspacked into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St.Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green(2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift theColonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morriswomen’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament champi-onships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.
