Who’s Doing What at Shilo Inns . . .

SALES STAFF STEP UP TO NEW CHALLENGES A hearty welcome to Ali Campbell, new Director of Sales for Shilo Inns in Beaverton and Washington Square. Ali has worked in the hospitality indus-try for years. She enjoys fitness and working out, walking her dogs, garden-ing and cooking for family and friends. Alex Fullerton joins the sales team at Shilo Portland Airport Suites Hotel and Shilo Inn-The Dalles with many years of hotel experience. Alex enjoys camping and has an interesting hobby of collect-ing hot wheels toy cars.

Welcome to Shilo Inn-Richland’s, new General Manager Kevin Bond. Kevin worked for Shilo prior to 2007—he be-gan in Spokane in 2000, moving to GM of Shilo Inn-Moses Lake in 2006. Kevin left Shilo to work on his college degree in Business Management and to play basketball. Kevin is engaged and has a two-year-old son. He says he is happy to be back at Shilo!

Congratulations go out to Bishnu Tiwari who was recently promoted to Assistant Head House-keeper at Shilo Portland Airport Hotel. Bishnu has worked at Shilo since 2010, beginning as a room attendant, moving up to room inspector, then head inspector prior to her promotion. Bishnu will assist Flo Gonzales in the day to day operation of one of the busiest housekeeping departments in the Shilo family.

“Dear Shilo Inn-Ocean Shores Res-taurant Manager: We had the distinct pleasure of being served by Chris Bethards, and both my husband and I agree that he is the best waiter we’ve ever had! He was so personable and friendly, but also unobtrusive and respectful and was very kind, helpful and fun. Becky and Mark”

FROM TRIPADVISOR: “We were in Bend and stayed at the Shilo Inn. Our stay was for snowshoeing, and we discovered there was no snow. We reserved an upper floor room with a balcony right on the river and it was definitely worth the extra fee. Front desk person was prompt, courteous and very helpful. The room was clean and quiet. We did not notice anything dated. There was free hot buffet breakfast which was our reason for staying there, and it was very good. It was a pleasant experience!”

Shilo Inn-Killeen’s new GM is Richard Wood. Richard has worked in the hospitality industry in a variety of positions, first as a bar-tender. He is a native of Ohio and was transferred to Texas by a resort company 30 years ago and loves the area. He was recently voted “Ambassador of the Year’ by a local Chamber of Commerce. Richard loves spending time with his wife and their two boxers, playing golf, and rid-ing his motorcycle.

J ennifer Hitzeman, Assistant General Manager, Shilo Portland Airport Hotel, and her son, Espen, take a breather after running in the Portland area “Slime Run.”

Portland offers many opportunities for participants to run in support of local charities, including the Ronald McDonald House, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and others. Running season officially begins on St. Patrick’s Day with the Shamrock Run for Doernbecher. Last Saturday was Espen’s first 5K race, and he plans to join Mom when she runs the Color Me Rad event on June 7th and the Neon Run on June 28.

Gracious Shilo Service, Special Guests & Kudos FROM TRIPADVISOR . . . “Our family just returned from a wonderful trip to Portland. The Shilo Portland Airport was fantastic. The rooms were absolutely huge, and everything was clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub are very big, well stocked with extra towels and open 24 hours. The fitness center had great equipment plus a steam room and sauna. For the price, you can’t beat these amenities, and, on top of that, they provide an excellent full hot breakfast, including coffee or tea in their restaurant or continental break-fast each morning. The hotel also gave us a coupon for a com-plimentary beer or glass of wine, which was nice after a long day. Overall, this was a great place for the family. I know our family will be back, and I’ve already recom-mended this hotel to my family and friends visiting the area or flying out of PDX. Bailey, Lacey, Washington” “Stayed here one night [Shilo Inn-Bend] as a solo journey of my travels. The front desk people were very professional and helpful in questions I had regarding things to do in Bend. The rooms were really nice, big and clean. There is plenty of lighting if you choose to have it bright. Gas fireplace, comfy, firm bed. Rooms have good insulation, as I never heard any loud noises coming from below me or the rooms beside me. I will be back to this hotel when I venture out to Oregon again!”

“Gail Hammer writes, “Great service and food. I ate too much it was so good!” [Shilo Portland Airport Restaurant patron] “A very nice Easter—great service and great food,” writes Patty Brice after her indulgence in Easter Sunday Brunch at Shilo Portland Airport Restaurant. “I always refer my out of town clients to Shilo Inn-Bend. I had an office fax failure and asked front desk person, Diane Powers to fax a document for me. She was courteous, friendly and professional. Natacha Kenyon, Bend” Stacey Thomaseth praises the staff at Shilo Inn-Salmon Creek, “Jessica Mast and Robert McCrary were awesome. I was going through a rough time and they helped me. I ap-preciate everything!”

Stuart writes, “Special thanks to Jessica Mast, Robert McCrary and Chelsea Speakman [Shilo Inn-Salmon Creek] for their cheerful, always above and beyond help!” “Just wanted to thank you for the great, yet short stay at Shilo Inn-Ocean Shores. We were pleasantly greeted and check-in was quick and efficient. We did use the pool with our two and four year old grandchildren and it was clean and enjoyable. Rooms were comfortable and, of course, the view was amazing! Thank you for providing us with a great getaway. I hope to visit soon! Kathleen Sobole”

“All the staff was so wonderful and helped me so much during my stay. [Shilo Inn-Tacoma] I will recommend this hotel very highly. My room was booked by a travel agent in England. M. Bray.”

I would like to start by saying that I have stayed in many hotels across the U.S. for busi-ness trips and the level of ser-vice I received at your fine establishment (Shilo Inn-Killeen] was one of the best ever! I would like to call out Darius Rufus, Security [R], and Brian Pollet, front desk [L]. I had a horrible

flight in with issues galore and those two fine gentlemen went out of their way to make my stay a great one. Darius came and picked me up from the airport and took me to get food at midnight. That, to me, is fantastic.

Brian was very knowledgeable and pleasant to speak to on the phone and in person. I got to the hotel and that man had me sleeping in my room within five minutes. I will recommend to all my colleagues that when in Killeen, stay at the Shilo. Thank you for the great time! Michael Smith

“We had a blast! [Shilo Inn-Warrenton] Super friendly and welcoming. We are going to be coming back and recommending this place to everyone. Breakfast was wonderful! Emilee Killarzoac, Sedro-Wooley, Washington” “OMG, Heather Silbaugh and Tom Borden rocked! [Shilo Inn-Bend] There was a death in the family and I had unloaded the suitcases, then quickly packed up and loaded them all back up. Tabatha Voros, Folsom, CA”

Central Reservations . . . Guest, Mike Stratton, called to compliment Daniel Miller on the service he provided while making a reservation. Mike noted that “Daniel is such a good, dedicated employee—he was extremely helpful with everything I, the guest, needed.”

Sharing and Caring . . .

H onor Flight

Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. Transpor-

tation for these heroes is coordinated by 100 hubs of HFN to Washington, D.C. from all over the country for them to visit and reflect at their memorial that was dedicated in May of 2004. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. HFN notes that of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free soci-ety. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. The time to ex-press our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

Dick Tobiason, who heads up Bend Heroes Foundation and manages hubs of HFN near Portland and East of the Cascades, was inspired after his visit to the Lincoln City Desert Storm/Veterans War Memorial to approach the Hemstreets for a partnership and they agreed to donate the first night’s lodging and dinners at Shilo Suites Hotel-Portland Airport as the groups depart for Washington, D.C.

Shilo employees continue to honor veterans with dis-counts and other local area programs and projects, accom-panied by many heartfelt, “Thank you for your service!” greetings. Will Rogers once said, “We can’t all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.”

Rose Baler, laundry attendant, is going on 20 years with Shilo Inn-Idaho Falls. Rose partners with ladies from her church by donating damaged linens for them to create beautiful quilts that are donated to local shelters and needy families in the area. Rose displays one of their creations that was presented to her as a “thank-you” for donating the damaged linens.

Affordable Excellence Shilo Inns

S hilo Airport Suites Hotel-Portland received a letter from Mike Pungercar, Director of the

South Willamette Valley Honor Flight in Eugene. “I am back and feel as if I have been on a four-day marathon, and I guess in many ways that is what I did. The comments from our veterans and guardians were very positive about their stay at your hotel. Many said they were amazed at the excellent quality of the rooms they were provided and extremely grateful for beginning their Honor Flight in such luxury. They also appreciated the dinner. We look forward to our stay on October 16. Please thank everyone at the hotel for their hospitality and Mr. and Mrs. Hemstreet for their support of our WWII veterans and the Honor Flight program.

R ita Huls, new Director of Sales, Shilo Inn-Killeen, says, “I was born and

raised in Texas, and moved to Killeen in 1963. I have been married to the same wonderful man for nearly 27 years and we have two beautiful children—Chelsea, age 24, and Kyle, age 20, and two dogs that are like family—Buddy and Stella. I love to draw and paint, mostly in charcoal or water color, and I enjoy reading James Patterson. I relish inter-action with the public and because of that, I love SALES! A good sense of humor is important and I believe in placing the Lord first and foremost. I have a soft spot in my heart for abused and neglected pets, and my dream would be to buy 20-30 acres and rescue as many as possible.

O ur happiness lies in the happiness we give to others. Give them happiness and you will get your own happiness. This is the purpose of human life . . . The pursuit of happiness!
