The following meditation techniques will show you where you are holding tension and teach you to fi nd your center. This will dramatically improve your health and align your intentions. It will make you a creator of life instead of a recipient of whatever comes your way. If you cannot relax your body and mind then you probably have some pretty serious problems with health, fi nances, relationships or all three. Recent research has shown that meditating once a day for about 10-15 minutes can reduce stress and bring calmness in life. More and more doctors are prescribing meditation as a way to lower blood pressure, improve exercise performance in people with angina, help people with asthma breathe easier, relieve insomnia and generally relax the everyday stresses of life. Meditation is a safe and simple way to balance a person’s physical, emotional, and mental state. It is simple and can benefi t everybody. Make meditation a part of your daily life. With meditation, we give the attention a target that keeps us anchored in the present moment. The target can be a physical object, or more commonly, the breath. We give the mind something consistent to focus on and this becomes the object of the meditation

Here are 7 easy tips on meditation.

1. Where to meditate? First of all choose a special place in your house. It can be a corner or a room or you can meditate outside in fresh air. If you like you can furnish that area with special objects that have a spiritual meaning for you. The important thing is that the place where you meditate should be quiet. There should be no disturbances or distractions. Tell people around you that this is the place where you

spend time with yourself, so that there is no one to interrupt you.

To get better results and enhance your meditation, you can consciously choose the pleasant fragrances that are relaxing, balancing and nourishing. You can use smells like lavender, juniper or geranium in your

room. Oils like Chamomile, Vanilla, Jasmine, Mandarin and Neroli have a calming, grounding and cooling effect. You may meditate in the lap of nature. For example you may fi nd a place near a beach or in the woods where you can be quiet and undisturbed and really enjoy the nature while you meditate. Great experiences can be achieved when you meditate in nature.

2. Correct position while you meditate? The classic posture is to sit with legs folded and hands resting in the lap or on your knees. You need to fi nd your own posture, the pose in which you feel comfortable and relaxing to meditate effectively. If your pose is

not comfortable the body will start aching and you won’t be able to concentrate and carry on with the meditation. On the other hand if the posture is too comfortable chances are that you will fall asleep. Thus, there is a strong need to fi nd a balance between the two.

Work out which posture is best for you. You may sit on a chair, with legs crossed or sit on the fl oor or walk around gently in a room. It is up to you, try a few different postures and see which one gives you best result.

3. Eyes - open or closed? It is again a question of comfort. Some people say that one should close their eyes while some others say it is best to keep the eyes open. Choose the

CMMMhealthMeditation- The key to finding your inner strength

Meditation is a great way to relax with many other benefi ts associated with it. Meditation is a break from your busy daily life, hectic job, worries and concerns. Turn off your mobile phone, let your computer and your e-mails wait for a minute and give yourself some time to meditate. We are such an action oriented society that it becomes extremely necessary to relax as we become more aware of ourselves.

method that gives you the best results. Generally people, who keep their eyes closed, have great meditation. A few others fall asleep with eyes closed. So if you keep your eyes closed make sure that you sit in an alert position. The same goes for when you open your eyes while meditating, you may keep looking here and there. It is all about concentrating, no matter whether your keep eyes open or closed.

4. Duration of meditation Ideally mediating for 10-15 minutes, twice a day is effi cient but even once a day helps. It is not always the duration that matters. People who meditate for 5 minutes may draw more benefi t than those who meditate for 20 minutes. The time is not that important. The most important is that you meditate on a regular basis. Remaining consistent will also help you gain trust in yourself. When you trust yourself it is easier to trust others. 5. Is music essential? Some people like gentle relaxing music in the background when they meditate while some others prefer pure quietness. Once again you need to try it out, try meditating with soothing music in the background and next time try meditating in silence. You can observe what suits you the best. If you choose music you can go for sounds that traditionally have been used to rejoice in spirit such as Gregorian, Vedic, Hebrew, Native American, Celtic etc.

6. Keep all worries away

When we wake up in the morning the fi rst thing we do is to think about all of the things that we would need/like to do. These thoughts may hinder your mediation regime. So writing down your plan for the day will help you to focus on meditating instead of all of the things that you want to do.

Try to release all stress from your heart during your meditation and throughout the day whether it is positive or negative. Relax, fi nd your balanced state of neutrality and know that you can be happy no matter what you are doing.

7. The focus

In Yoga the object the attention remains on a mantra. In Buddhism the focus for bare attention is often the meditator’s own breathing. Both mantra meditation and awareness of breathing fulfi ll all

the elements required for meditating for relaxation. Some meditation methods involve looking at objects with open eyes, but in others, the subjects close their eyes which makes it easier to relax.

Here is a simple way to meditate:

* Start with 3 loud OMs. Your ability to vocalize will instantly show you if you are in your power.* Take deep breaths* Center your energy in your body* Relax and allow any tension to leave your body and mind* End with your daily intentions

We all inevitably make one every year: “I want to stick to a diet,” “Clear up all debt,” “Stop dating the wrong people,” but no sooner do those New Year’s bells ring that our annual “resolution” is already falling apart as you buy something expensive, eat a double cheeseburger and smile at the man/woman who is sitting across the room with his/her spouse. “The end of a year serves as a benchmark, and brings about the desire to refl ect back on how we did, what we accomplished, the challenges we faced and the milestones we passed,” says Dru Rafkin Jackman, owner of Sane Solutions by Dru Certifi ed Coaching, Consulting & Training. “It’s the perfect time to check in on whether we did what we set out to do when the year began. Most people start the New Year with high hopes, and end with some amount of disappointment, and even regret for the promises they didn’t keep.”

1. Your New Year’s resolution last year was to lose weight, and come to think of it, it was the same the year before. This year you decide:A. To make it your “real” resolution and stick to it. For this reason, you gather diet books and register with a group, like Weight Watchers, so you follow through this time.B. You tell yourself you will do it this year, but don’t want to commit to any diet meetings just yet.C. You say to yourself that you really should do it, and prom-ise yourself to eat only salad for two months straight.

2. Your friends are talking about their New Year’s resolu-tions, so you:A. Start to think about one you can keep.B. Think of one that will make an impression on the crowd.C. Just keep quiet until it’s time to change the topic of con-versation.

3. You are in a dead-end job, and know it’s time to make a move:A. You make your New Year’s resolution that you will have a new job by the end of the year, and get started by sending out resumes now.B. Realize a new job would be a good new year’s resolution that will make you eager to launch your job search sometime after Jan. 1, 2010.C. Plan to make getting a new job your new year’s resolu-tion, and hope someone you know hooks you up with a new one.

4. When faced with a new challenge, you:A. Try to overcome every obstacle.B. Work hard to beat the odds, but don’t “kill yourself” to do it.C. Go through stages of “I can’t do it,” long before you realize you can.

5. You have never kept a New Year’s resolution for more than three months, so you:A. Tell everyone you know your resolution this year is to carry out your resolution. In fact, you recruit family and friends to help you stay on track.B. Devise a plan to make it past four months this time.C. Choose a resolution that will be hard for you to keep.

6. You have just suffered a bad breakup with a partner, so you:A. Make your New Year’s resolution to “get over him or her” and not go back.B. Tell yourself your resolution is to meet someone new, and plan to meet as many new guys/gals as you can.C. Think that a good resolution will be to get him/ her back,

or maybe not. In this situation, your new year’s resolution is which ever path fate takes you along.

7. You think New Year’s resolutions in general are:A. A great way to accomplish something you have long been desiring to do.B. A creative way to push yourself to do something that is likely good for you.C. Bogus, for the most part.

Give yourself fi ve points for every “A,” three points for each “B,” and one point for every “C.”If your score is 30 or above you have all the traits necessary to keep your new year’s resolution. “To keep a New Year’s resolution it takes focus: Keep it TOM or “top of mind,” instructs Jackman. “You need to remind yourself why this is important, and how excited you will be when you make your goal. Enlist the support of others who know how important this is to you.” It’s also important to stay aware of your goal. “Have awareness that you will hit obstacles, and that it is part of the process, part of the game,” he says. “Have awareness that you will experience a natural pushback from your mind in the form of excuses, justifi cation, rationalizations, etc...”If you’ve scored 20 to 29 you will likely keep your resolution for a month, two or maybe three. But you will likely fall short of making it all through the year.“It’s incredibly common to keep your resolution for some time, and then stop,” says Jackman. “This can be for a variety of reasons. We begin hitting obstacles and think that they are a ‘sign’ that we’re not up to the challenge. We change our resolution, such as ‘I really only need to lose 10 pounds, 25 is just too much,’ rather than face the challenge. Perfectionism can get in the way as well; ‘I cheated and gained 3 pounds’ or ‘We’re going on vacation, and I want to eat what I want...’ We can ‘fall off the wagon’ because we have forgot-ten why this is so important to us.” To avoid this, he recommends “recommitting to what’s important by getting support from someone who will encourage you to keep going even when it gets hard.”If your score is 19 or below you’re a person who will not likely keep your new year’s resolution. “According to an online study conducted in 2008 by Resolution Research® of Denver, Colorado, ‘roughly half of those making only one resolution in 2008 succeeded in keeping it and over 70% of those making resolutions in 2009 admit to making the same resolution(s) they previously failed to keep,’” echoes Jack-man. In fact, if you don’t reach your new year’s resolution this year, it’s because you lack much of the support system needed to do so. “These may be the people who need the most support. They’re of-ten so unfamiliar with their core values that they have forgotten who they are, and what they are really capable of,” he says, “Their focus is on what they can’t do, how hard it is, how many times they have failed. Everyone has powerful qualities within them, everyone wants to be acknowledged for who they are; we all want to make a differ-ence. Start slowly, take small steps and know that obstacles are part of the game. Get support from someone who wants to see you succeed because he/she knows it’s important to you, not because it’s part of his/her desire or agenda for you.”

Take our quiz to see if the coming year will be the year when you will able to keep your new year’s resolution.

Bollywood MasalaWith social networking taking over the internet world, our very own Bollywood stars can’t be far behind. Everyone from Imran Khan to Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar, Preity Zinta and even Abhishek Bachchan are all tweeting away their daily activities, answering fans questions, and enjoying their time on Twitterverse. Some fun instances include Mallika Sherawat who tweeted about meeting Mariah Carey, “omg mariah carey just told me she loved my necklace:) she’s

supposed to be amazing in the film Precious. N she looked gorgeous 2nite!” As the glitterati join the twitterati, more and more Bollywood representation comes on board.

Shilpa Shetty will be adding herself to yet another bandwagon when

she ties the knot with beau Raj Kundra: the “Bollywood-actress-who-has-married-a-previously-married-man” wagon that is. However, she is not the first of Bollywood leading ladies who have done the same in the past. Hema Malini did the same when she married Dharmendra who was then married to wife Prakash. He also had two sons, Sunny and Bobby along with a daughter from Prakash. The veteran actor converted to Islam before marrying Malini. The couple has two daughters, Esha and Ahana between them. Writer Salim Khan, father to Salman Khan, too has two wives: Salma Khan and cabaret queen, Helen. He married her and adopted a young girl, Arpita. Sridevi married Boney Kapoor who had previously been married with two children. As did Shabana Azmi who married Javed Akhtar who was married to Honey Irani, mother to his talented children, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. Amongst the younger actresses, Karisma Kapoor entered into wedlock with Sanjay Kapur who was formerly married to a fashion designer. The same is for Mahima Chaudhary who married architect Bobby Mukherjee, father of two. Raveena Tandon too falls into this category. And it’s not just marriage. Kareena Kapoor is dating Saif Ali Khan who was earlier married to Amrita Singh. And if that isn’t enough, Tabu is said to be secretly dating married man and actor Nagarjuna.

Kajol and Kareena Kapoor played sisters in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum and not a single report of the actresses sharing cold vibes came out of the K3G camp. In fact, Bebo went on to claim on numerous occasions that she is an avid Kajol fan. The actresses are back in action together in Karan Johar’s remake of the Hollywood hit Stepmom which will also star Arjun Rampal. Filming for the movie has already begun and needless to say the actresses were seen chatting, bonding and even helping one another with their scenes. Bebo went on to add

to a leading daily, “look up to Kajol, as she is one of the finest actresses we have today. I totally love her and we get along like a house on fire. Karan is a dear friend of both of us, and we all belong to the same click, so there’s only great vibes and friendship on the sets.” The film is slated for a 2010 release and it is said that Bebo will be out in a completely new avatar with this one. Her look is being designed by Manish Malhotra. She went on to add, “Manish was in NY. We’re working on a totally new look, clothes makeup and hair for our film with Karan. I can guarantee you this time we’ll do something very different from my celebrated Poo in K3G.”

Raj Kapoor and singer Mukesh were the best of pals and Neil Nitin Mukesh claims that he and Ranbir Kapoor too are good friends. However, that said, the duo also share a competitive streak which he deems as “healthy.” Neil went on to explain his relationship with Ranbir to a leading tabloid, “Ranbir and I are of course competitors. But there’s no negative rivalry between us. Our respective fathers (Nitin Mukesh and Rishi Kapoor) would kill us if we behaved like two brats fighting for the same roles.” He also added that while their grandfathers were best buds, their fathers, adore one another too, thus making Ranbir very much like his younger brother. When quizzed on the fact that his Jail and Ranbir’s Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani were both releasing on the same day, he quickly clarified, “I’d want Ranbir’s film to do as well as mine,” Neil says. “Fortunately, Jail and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani look like north and south poles.” Neil has the sequel to his first film Johnny Gaddar coming up which is called, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny while Ranbir has Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year ready to hit cinemas before the end of the year. While Neil had a rather rollercoaster year, Aa Dekhen Zara failed at the box-office while New York gained much critical and box-office acclaim, it was Ranbir who came out on top this year bagging two hits in a row: Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani within a span of a month.

Rajkumar Santoshi, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have collaboratively expressed their keen desire to make and act in an Andaz Apna Apna sequel. The film went on in the nineties to become a cult comedy with both Khans along with Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon all winning much accolades for this out-and-out comedy flick. In fact the Khans both went on to dually claim on Salman’s game show Dus Ka Dum that they would love to get together and work on a second installment where the men would play fathers to their own sons who would be played by them too. However, director

Rajkumar Santoshi has recently denied that he has in fact approached any of the Khans for the sequel of AAA. “I am not really making a sequel of Andaz Apna Apna. That film had its share of success. I am making a film on the lines of Andaz Apna Apna though which is called Adah Apni Apni. This film too will have four lead characters out of which two are Ranbir and Katrina,” he told a local daily. He went on to add, “Aamir and Salman won’t suit the roles I have in mind so they won’t be a part of this film.”

You Gotta WatchLuck By Chance: Javed Akhtar’s daughter, Zoya Aktar makes her directorial debut with this movie that ultimately divulges deep dark secrets about Hindi cinema. Exceptional direction and fantastic performances by her brother Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma make Luck By Chance one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2009.Dev D: In this modern adaptation of Devdas, Abhay Deol takes the lead role as the foreign-returned spoilt brat who falls victim to alcohol and drugs after a misunderstanding with his ladylove. Director Anurag Kashyap’s execution and Abhay’s acting with some great shots inspired by Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire fame all add to the reasons why Dev D should be seen.New York: Terrorism is a relatively new genre to Bollywood and Kabir Khan knew exactly what he was tackling with when he made New York. The unique selling point of the film includes the natural acting by the star cast: John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh amidst the backdrop of terrorism, racial prejudice and friendship. Kaminey: It’s Shahid versus Shahid in Kaminey which ultimately make it a top contender for 2009 adulation. The speech impaired brothers who detest one another find themselves in a real mess and needing each other more than ever in this Vishal Bhardwaj masterpiece. Bold and dark, this dark comedy is a real winner for this year. Love Aaj Kal: After Jab We Met, Imtiaz Ali was back with a bang with his new offering, only this time he bid Kareena Kapoor adieu and took on her beau Saif Ali Khan instead. LAK depicts two love stories simultaneously; one in modern day Australia versus a more conventional love. Love Aaj Kal is no Jab We Met but has great music along with the suave Saif and sexy Deepika Padukone.Wanted: Salman Khan is back and how!

Wanted has put Sallu back on the map as not only the most entertaining Khan but

as winner at the box office. In this full out action flick, Salman displays his innate talent as dancing king Prabhudeva directs. This one is a must watch for Salman fans!Wake Up Sid: With Ranbir Kapoor being deemed as the next big thing, Wake Up Sid comes at a time when new stories and young directors are needed effective immediately! First time director Ayan Mukherji scores in this youthful story of a lazy boy played by Kapoor turned responsible as he falls in love with Konkona Sen Sharma.WUS is nothing short of a breath of fresh air!All The Best: Diwali season saw three films fighting it out at the box office: Blue, Main Aur Mrs Khanna and All The Best. The last taking the cake and become the Diwali hit for 2009. Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mughda Godse all star in this fun comedy directed by Rohit Shetty of Golmaal fame.

You Can AvoidChandni Chowk to China: Akshay Kumar

and Deepika Padukone are anything but humorous in this Nikhil Advani directed debacle. Regarded as perhaps one of the worst films ever made, CC2C can be completely passed. Victory: Hurman Baweja may never get it right and his performance in Victory proved just that by being a total waste of time and a terrible depiction of cricket in general. Billu: Shah Rukh Khan may have managed to convince Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone to dance in his film, but Billu was nothing short of a failure. Aa Dekhen Zara & 8 x 10 Tasveer: The failure of both of these films which loosely share a similar theme: telling the future, clearly proved that while an idea may be unique, it can be executed terribly. Kambakkht Ishq: With great hype and expectations, Kambakkht Ishq came and failed. Even Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor couldn’t save this film from sinking.Dil Bole Hadippa: Rani Mukherjee was back after a hiatus only to fall flat and realize her career has come to an end. Besides the music, Dil Bole Hadippa has nothing else to be excited about. What’s Your Rashee: Ashutosh Gowarikar may have presented the awarding winning Jodha-Akbar in 2008, his 2009 offering lacks substance. Based on a popular novel, the film starred Priyanka Chopra and Hurman Baweja whose cold chemistry once again failed. And the year still has a few more promising movies before 2010 brings with it a Bollyrific films. Watch out for Kurbaan, De Dana Dan, Paa, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and Three Idiots. As for 2010, Bollywood buffs have the likes of Dance Pe Chance, Ishqiya, Rann, Veer, My Name is Khan and many other exciting flicks. What will 2010 do for Hindi cinema? You will just have to wait to find out!

2008 was one of Bollywood’s most acclaimed years with fabulous Hindi flicks. If there was the critically acclaimed and publically loved A Wednesday, then there was the musically rocking Rock On! Then there was the flamboyant Dostana, the realistic Fashion, the historical Jodha-Akbar and the youthful Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na before the year ended on an even higher note with both the Khans: Shah Rukh and Aamir vying for the top spot with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Ghajini. When it came down to recognizing the best of the best for 2008, for the most part the same artists were nominated and awarded with top honors. Hrithik Roshan bagged most of the Best Actor Awards for his performance in Jodha-Akbar. Ditto for Priyanka Chopra as the small-town girl turned supermodel in Fashion. As for the Best Film of the year, audiences and critics found themselves divided between a period film and a modern take on the Indian sentiments: Jodha-Akbar and A Wednesday respectively. And as the clock struck midnight on the 31st of December 2008, a new movie year for Bollywood was born. Check out CityMasala’s verdict on Bollywood in 2009.

Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS, DRM, DNB (Intensivist and Thy-roid specialist) with clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hos-pital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading the Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clin-ic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad(W).

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Con-tact with H1N1 is not as much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggra-vation of symptoms and development of secondary infec-tions, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most

offi cial communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamifl u):

• Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all offi cial communications).

• "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

• Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show char-acteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamifl u has on an infect-ed one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

• Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water . *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean na-sal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cot-ton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

• Neti pots and sinus rinse kits are available at the drug store and relatively inexpensive..under $15.

• Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

• Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating virus-es from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Everyday I hear stories of my girlfriends and the ‘guys in their life.’ Each day it’s a new dramatic story of meeting Mr. Wrong, and how their parents are forcing them into a bhandhan. For the next few months, I’ll be sharing a series of stories with you guys from my friends’ perspectives about their dating tribulations. Today we meet Megha Shah and her incident with Mr. Baroda…

I am single and given the pressure I have coming from all parts of the society I live in, I am afraid a catastrophe will strike this world we live in if I don’t get married soon!

Given the track record I have with the various dating/relationship disasters, I fi nally relented to my parents’ wishes and signed up for an event called “GujjuMaitri” which is Gujarati speed dating. You must register to participate and for registration you need to send your headshot, ‘bio-data’ (a term I fi nd hilarious for dating), and other relevant details about yourself.

Upon reaching “GujjuMaitri” you receive a huge fat book, which has pictures and information on EVERY guy & girl registered for the event (so much for privacy!) Earlier I was single and not many people knew; now even random strangers that I want to know nothing about know that I am SINGLE!

The event with kicked off with all of us lined up by the stage and introducing ourselves. Some of the guys were normal, and some others decided to get on stage with the microphone and say, “Aunties & uncles look out, I’m one hot guy looking for your hot daughter!” Come on guys – you are in a room full of people, one of those people is possibly someone you just may marry, a distinct possibility that her parents are also around – what possessed you to get on the stage and say something like that out loud?

Once everyone introduced himself or herself, we were asked to make a list of the top 10 guys (for the girls) that we’d like to meet. After submitting the list, we were asked to mingle with people while they put the “data” together in their systems – yes, they had computer software for this!

After the data was put together and we got our list of the 10 guys (for my example) we were asked to sit down with them –

let the speed dating begin. I went through my list and met with the guys; some seemed really nice, whereas others didn’t present themselves in umm let’s just say … a good light!

Let’s meet Mr. Baroda (yes that’s his native town): cute, nice smile! Birthplace – Newark, NJ, Sun Sign – Cancer, Age – XX, Occupation – Pharmacist, Siblings – 1 older sister (married + 2 kids) and a younger brother (in college), Parents – married (father works for a major pharmaceutical company & mother is a homemaker).

We started talking and the conversation went something like this:

Me: So tell me a little bit about yourself?

Mr. Baroda: I was born & raised here; my parents have been living in the US for

nearly 50 years now. I work for a major pharmacy chain and went to

college locally. I’ve got an older sister and two cute nieces. I

got a younger brother too. What about you? Me: Wow sounds cool, how old are your nieces? I bet you spoil them a lot! Well, I work for a pharmaceutical company. I am involved with marketing their products. I get to travel

a lot and meet interesting people, so it’s a lot of fun.

Mr. Baroda: Yeah, they are a year apart from each other, so they

never like to share things, so whatever I get for one, I have to get for the other. They

are 5 and 4 years old, cute little kids. (He then proceeds to pull out his wallet and inside are pictures of

his nieces – seems like he’s really attached to them.) So you do want to continue working after marriage?

Me: Aww, they are very cute! I have little cousins that I spoil a lot too, so I know how you feel. Work after marriage? Yeah of course, until my husband & I decide to settle down with our family, then I’ll continue to work.

Mr. Baroda: Interesting; well, I think after a marriage, a woman doesn’t need to work, she should just stay at home, cook, clean and take care of house-hold matters. Let’s just say after that, the rest of the speed dating event went downhill! A guy, born & raised in the US, who has the mentality that a girl should merely stay home and tend to “household necessities,” was not really making me want to fi nd out what his views were about politics, world hunger, humanity or heck, even Bollywood for that matter! Old adage but so true! Never judge a book by its cover!

Aromatherapy is the Indian Ayurvedic science dating back 3500 years. An ancient form of healing that uses the art of blending essential oils. Steam or water distillation is used to extract the oils from the fl owers, leaves, stems and roots of plants. The oil not only holds the true fragrance or perfume of the plant it was drawn from but also carries with it all of the healing and medicinal properties. A small dose goes a long way -- one drop of essential oil equals roughly thirty cups of herbal tea in terms of concentration. What differentiates essential oils from fragrance oils or store bought perfumes is their purity and therapeutic gains. Many perfumes and fragrance oils are made up of artifi cial ingredients while essential oils are 100% natural and offer an infi nite amount of healing mental and physical benefi ts. This normally happens through breathing in the oils and applying them directly to the skin in a diluted form, blended with a carrier oil (sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and grape seed oil). When the oil is absorbed into the body through massage or inhalation, it travels to the lymphatic system and the lymphatic system then circulates it into the blood stream. The oil then goes to work on the body by correcting imbalances. You can reduce infl ammation, fi ght infection, create an antiseptic environment for your body to heal, assist your cells in functioning properly, calm your nerves, ease your anxiety, relax your muscles, clear up troubled skin and much more. There are countless ways you can reap the all-natural benefi ts of using essential oils to beautify, rejuvenate and enhance your well being from the inside out. Here are just a few tips:Relax

Create your own spa experience in the comfort of your own bathroom. Add fi ve to ten drops of oil into your bath for a luxurious experience. Fill the tub with hot water, lay back and relax. Let the restorative healing properties of lavender oil wash over you or the stimulating properties of peppermint oil perk you up. Make your own massage oil by adding 1 drop of your favorite scent for every ml of carrier oil. Can’t sleep? Try this as a solution for insomnia. Run cold water over a pair of cotton socks and wring them out. Dab a couple of drops of lavender oil onto them and then put them on followed by a pair of woolen socks over top. Crawl into bed a leave them on for a half hour or all night if you fall asleep. This works surprisingly well.

Beautify

If you have a big day coming up – a job interview, a wedding, an evening affair or you just want to pamper yourself, these quick and easy solutions will give you a last minute make-over and have you looking gorgeous in no time! For pimples, spot treat them with tea tree oil. Australian tea tree oil is the best. This will reduce infl ammation and kill bacteria. Tea tree oil is also excellent as a disinfectant and can be used for minor blisters, burns, cold sores, infected wounds, insect bites, and rashes. To get a healthy glow start by washing your face with warm water and a wet cloth that has been dabbed with your favorite essential oil. This will open up your pores. Next use a small amount of sea salt or oatmeal mixed with a few drops of warm water and massage the mixture into your face for 2-3 minutes in an upward motion using circular movements. Rinse and moisturize. Give yourself an at home facial by putting 8 drops of essential oil like lavender, eucalyptus or chamomile in a bowl of nearly boiling water. Place your face over the bowl and breathe in deeply for 8 to 10 minutes. To intensify the benefi ts place a towel over your head and use as a hood to capture the steam. Wipe off access moisture with a cotton pad and gently apply a facial toner. Be sure to drink plenty of water afterwards. Add 5 drops of oil like sandalwood or frankincense to a clay mask and leave on as directed.

For an all in one-nail treatment use rosehip oil. This nourishing oil contains prostaglandin to strengthens your nail cells, stimulate growth and increase circulation, vitamin C to prevent infections and fatty acids to rehydrate. Finish off by gently buffi ng your nails for a luminous shine.

CMMMhealthZen And The Art Of Essential Oils

Stress Busters

To de-stress, put 4 drops of chamomile and 2 drops of bergamot and sandalwood onto a handkerchief or napkin. Breathe in deeply through your nose and out through your mouth for a few minutes.

If you need a pick-me-up rub a drop of peppermint on your temples and you’ll feel instantly awake.

Store these next two blends in a 2ml colored glass bottle and keep with you in your bag, in your car, at the offi ce or while you’re traveling. Breathe easy by blending 20 drops of lavender, 5 drops of tea tree oil and 15 drops of frankincense. Try this happiness blend to help lift you out of the winter doldrums; 25 drops of bergamot and 15 drops of geranium.

Choosing Your Oil

So how do you choose the oil that’s right for you? The simple answer is to go by your nose. To relieve stress you might opt for orange, ylang ylang or chamomile. Lavender will restore balance and soothe,. Jasmine is uplifting and sandalwood has been used as an aphrodisiac. Rosemary, eucalyptus and peppermint are all stimulants and can be used to rejuvenate and re-energize if you’re feeling sluggish or unfocused. The scent will more or less attract you and experts say that we intuitively gravitate towards what we know will help us. Have fun and experiment. It’s important to remember that not all essential oils are created equal. Be sure to only buy oils that are 100% pure and natural.

Discover the world of essential oils and use them to be the vibrant healthy you that you are meant to be.
