Hymn – I heard the voice of Jesus say AMN 247 (2nd tune)1 I heard the voice of Jesus say:
'Come unto me and rest;Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast.'I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad,I found in him a resting-place,
And he has made me glad.
2 I heard the voice of Jesus say:'Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,Stoop down and drink and live.'
I came to Jesus, and I drankOf that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,And now I live in him.
3 I heard the voice of Jesus say:'I am this dark world's Light;
Look unto me, thy morn shall rise,And all thy day be bright.'
I looked to Jesus, and I foundIn him my star, my sun;
And in that light of life I'll walk,Till travelling days are done.
Horatius Bonar (1808-1889)

You open wide your hand, O Lord; you grant our desires.The Lord is kind and full of compassion,
slow to anger, abounding in love.How good is the Lord to all,
compassionate to all his creatures.You open wide your hand, O Lord; you grant our desires.
The eyes of all creatures look to youand you give them their food in due time.
You open wide your hand,grant the desires of all who live.
You open wide your hand, O Lord; you grant our desires.The Lord is just in all his ways
and loving in all his deeds.He is close to all who call him,
who call on him from their hearts.You open wide your hand, O Lord; you grant our desires.

We believe and trust in him.
Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,who gives life to the people of God
and makes Christ known in the world?We believe and trust in him.
This is the faith of the Church.This is our faith. We believe and trust in one God,

Hymn: Guide me, O thou great Redeemer AMN 2141 Guide me, O thou great Redeemer,
pilgrim through this barren land;I am weak, but thou art mighty,
hold me with thy powerful hand:bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore.
2 Open now the crystal fountainwhence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fiery, cloudy pillarlead me all my journey through:
strong deliverer,be thou still my strength and shield.
3 When I tread the verge of Jordanbid my anxious fears subside;
death of death, and hell's destruction,land me safe on Canaan's side:
songs of praisesI will ever give to thee.

Today we remember Mary Sumner, founder of
the Mothers’ Union.
Members of Wivelsfield Mothers’ Union will have active roles in this service, and we pray for our own branch and for the work of the Mothers’ Union throughout the world.
As her movement grew, Mary Sumner asked herself what its
purpose really was, and what it should strive for. She reflected:
“A true home should be a light-house, shedding its quiet beams
far and wide”
– her dream was for every home to be filled with the light and love of Jesus, and for the movement to unite many hearts in many
lands, nurturing healthy environments for little children.
GreetingThe Lord be with you
and also with you.
Hymn: Dear Lord and Father of mankind AMN 1151 Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways;Reclothe us in our rightful mind;
In purer lives thy service find,In deeper reverence, praise.
2 In simple trust like theirs who heardBeside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,Let us, like them, without a word
Rise up and follow thee.
3 O sabbath rest by Galilee!O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with theeThe silence of eternity,
Interpreted by love!
5 Drop thy still dews of quietness,Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of thy peace.
6 Breathe through the heats of our desireThy coolness and thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;Speak through the earthquake, wind and fire,
O still small voice of calm!

Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.I will listen to what the Lord God is saying,
for he is speaking peace to his faithful peopleand to those who turn in their hearts to him.
Truly, his salvation is near to those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.Mercy and truth have met together;
righteousness and peace have kissed each other.Truth shall spring up from the earth,
and righteousness shall look down from heaven.Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
The Lord will indeed grant prosperity,and our land will yield its increase.Righteousness shall go before him,
and peace shall be a pathway for his feet.Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
from Psalm 85
The Collect Almighty God,
who sent your Holy Spiritto be the life and light of your Church:
open our hearts to the riches of your grace,that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit
in love and joy and peace;through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,in the unity of the Holy Spirit,one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
