River Ridge FootballParent/Guardian Letter

Knights,

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU! Not every teacher or coach has the opportunity to work with great young people who are respectful, hard working, and have integrity. However, at River Ridge, we have that opportunity each and every day. It is a pleasure to walk through the doors to work alongside young people who are making the most of their situations and getting the most out of their educational experience. This makes working with your child a pleasure.

I’m excited that your son has expressed interest to play football. The coaching staff and myself have been working hard to find young men who we feel will represent this football program, this school, and this community in an honorable fashion. There are a lot of commitments that go along with playing football including off-season workouts, in-season training sessions, fundraising, film study, camps, and games. The coaching staff is excited for the opportunity to coach your son and build men of character who will represent your family and this school in a way in which you can be proud.

The coaching staff will test your athlete’s limits, will push them beyond their expectations, teach them technique, coach them through their struggles, and mentor them to help them mature. But, please understand that your child’s success in this football program will be defined by 3 questions: 1) Is this young man a man of character who does what’s right without being told or without someone watching his every move? 2) Does this young man have the work ethic to go out and create something for himself whether at a post-secondary school or in the work place? 3) Does this young man have the grades to make himself academically eligible to enroll at a post-secondary school if he so chooses?

Finally, the overall success of this football program is up to each and every one of us. It isn’t just the players and coaches that make Friday nights special. It is the behind the scenes work that takes this program to the next level. I want to thank each of you for volunteering your time and efforts to making River Ridge Football a first class program.

Thank you for your support! Go Knights!

Athlete’s Name _______________________Parent/Guardian Expectations 1. You are expected to love your child. 2. You are expected to leave your child alone during the games and practice. 3. You are more than welcome to attend any practice. (Stay off the field during practice time) 4. We do not need conversations with you and your son during games or practice. All parent meetings should be scheduled for the day after conflict/issues. 5. You are not to bring your son a snack or drink to the field of play at any time. 6. We will be a class act! We will not disrespect referees or opposing teams. It is a game being played by kids. The referees are humans; they make mistakes. Let’s demonstrate how to handle adversity to these young men! 7. By all means cheer loud and have fun at the games! 8. At some point, we may need parent drivers. 9. VOLUNTEER! We cannot do it without you! You play a tremendous role in the future of this program. 10. Player Dues $435: Every penny you pay goes back to your child. Transportation, Athletic Shirts, Athletic Shorts, Athletic Socks, Game Day Polo, Pre-game meals, Helmet refurbishment, Uniforms, Shoulder Pad refurbishment, New pads, New Girdles, Sanitation/Cleaning of Facilities and Clothing, Weight Room Upgrades, Etc.

**Please do not engage or promote mindless complaining about this program. If you have a problem or a complaint bring the issue to me.

I understand the expectations and will commit to supporting my child and their athletic/academic career. I understand that playing time will be based on effort, skill, character and the final decisions will be made on coach’s discretion. I will speak positively about the athletic program in all public settings and before my child. If conflict does occur or an issue needs to be addressed with a coach, I will seek to schedule an appointment with Coach Wynn to sort through the disagreement/issue.

River Ridge Football Player Expectations:

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Excused Absences: Extremes defined by Coach Wynn (if you’re not sure, it’s probably not excused.) All excused absences will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Unexcused Absences: Examples – Dentist appointment, Doctor “check-up”, Birthday party, haircut appointment, Babysitting, Work, etc.1st – 30 minutes of conditioning at 7:00 AM the day immediately following and no game time that week.2nd – 30 minutes of conditioning at 7:00 AM for three days before any game time.3rd – Immediate dismissal from the team.FAILING TO ATTEND A CONDITIONING SESSION FOR A MISSED PRACTICE WILL COUNT AS ANOTHER ABSENCE.

SUMMER ATTENDANCE:Summer attendance is completely optional BUT so is playing time. Athletes will be evaluated on their strength, speed, commitment, and athletic ability all summer. In addition, for you to compete in football, you need to be in the best shape possible. Summer workouts will ensure you are ready when the season begins. If you are playing another sport, send me your summer schedule and we will meet to discuss attendance. Athletes who have perfect attendance during the summer will receive a sheet of helmet stickers and 10 points added to their Iron Knight testing on the first week of school. Athletes who miss fewer than 1-4 days will receive stickers and points on their Iron Knight test. If you miss more than 4 days, you will not receive helmet stickers or points. Finally, if you are in town, BE AT SUMMER WORKOUTS!

REMEMBER WHO AND WHAT YOU REPRESENT! You are representing your family, your team, your coaches, and yourself. Remember the name on the front of your jersey is more important than the name on the back.

Be where you’re supposed to be, when you’re supposed to be there, doing what you’re supposed to be doing. It is that simple. You will hear this daily.

Be a “hands down” athlete. A “hands down” athlete is someone who serves others and gives of themselves. Don’t be someone with your hands out reaching for something to be given. Serve!

ATTITUDE: Be positive and believe in our system! Present this program, your teammates, coaches, and fans in a positive light. Be a good teammate who cares about the success of others and gives their best effort to make their team better.

EFFORT:  The amount of effort each player exerts is a choice and it is not limited to talent

Page 7: media.hometeamsonline.commedia.hometeamsonline.com/.../2016_Player_Welcome… · Web viewThe coaching staff is excited for the opportunity to coach your son and build men of character

7

level.  As a team and as individuals we must look at the “man in the mirror” and ask this question:  AM I DOING MY BEST? Be a G.O.G.O. (Get on the field and Get off the field)!

ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY: The reason you are in school is because of academics.  The difference in where you are now and where you want to go is your education.A.  Eligibility:  if you are not eligible, you cannot help the teamB.  Be on time for classC. Keep your grades up.

We will run a study hall for athletes in the 2016/2017 school year. If your grades are below a 72, you will have to attend 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) 7:30AM – 8:00AM.

Be PROMPT: On time is late! Always be 5 minutes early to practice, meetings, film, etc.

PLAYING TIME: 9th  / JV:  Everyone who commits will play.  Playing time may not be exactly equal for all players. Varsity:  Playing time based on effort, skill, and character.  Efforts are made to play as many players as possible but there are no guarantees.

Leave it BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT!: Clean up after yourself and take care of our facilities. Take care of our opposition’s facilities. Take care of the little things.

Guidelines for injuries and injured players: Meet with our Athletic trainer daily. Attend ALL practices / stay mentally sharp / assist managers / water bottles. Rehab injury so you can return when you are healthy. Remain with the team, wear game jersey on game days, be present with your teammates in the locker room and on the sidelines. The difference between being "hurt" and being "injured": The only day you will not be hurting is the first day.  From that day on until the end of the season, you may have aches and pains.  If you have an injury, you need to get it taken care of.  If you have an ache (a hurt) you need to learn to play with it, it is part of the game.

LETTERING POLICY: 6 Quarters of Varsity play (an appearance counts as a quarter). Finish the season in good standing with the coaches, teachers, and administration. Dress/Attend all Varsity football games. Note-Any senior who finishes the season in good standing with coaches, teachers, and administration will receive a letter for their dedication and commitment to the program. Also, any player may be given a letter who the coaches feel is deserving.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Substance Abuse: No drinking or possession of alcoholic beverages is allowed at any time. Drug possession or use of any kind is strictly prohibited. No smoking is allowed at any time. Smokeless tobacco products may not be used at any time. The school code of conduct will be used for any of the above offenses.

Appearance: Doing any activity for football we will require the athlete to meet the following expectations- School dress code, Equipment must be worn in specifications with GHSA regulations.

I understand the expectations and requirements set forth in this player agreement.
