You will take photos with the theme “Autumn” using the compositional methods you have learnt in the previous assignments, namely the Rule of Thirds and the Principle of Unequal Spacing. The examples of the “Autumn” photos using the two compositional methods are shown below. MEDIA ARTS 9 ASSIGNMENT 4 PHOTOGRAPHY: AUTUMN LANDSCAPE (THE RULE OF THIRDS): For landscape photos, be sure to place horizon lines at the top or bottom (ideally at 1/3 but can be 1/4 or 1/5). When there is one single subject that stands out, be sure to place it at one of the 1/3 intersections. When there are two or more subjects in a composition, you need to use the Principle of Unequal Spacing to make a sound coposition while keeping the horizon line at the top or bottom. MULTIPLES (THE PRINCIPLE OF UNEQUAL SPACING): When there are more than two attractive subjects in a frame, be sure to balance them in such a way that those subjects are attracting equal attention. INSTRUCTION: Your task is to take 3 sets of 3 photos that best represent “Autumn” utilizing both the Rule of Thirds and the Principle of Unequal Spacing as shown above. (so, there will be 9 in total: 3 Landscapes, 3 Multiples, and 3 Closeups. Your photos will be evaluated for their quality (focus and exposure), composition, and variety. The Rule of Thirds photos must contain horizon lines. CORE THEMES: - Use the Rule of Thirds and the Principle of Unequal Spacing appropriately. - Have correct focus and exposure. CLOSEUP (THE PRINCIPLE OF UNEQUAL SPACING): When you close in on a single subject, the parts of the subject become multiple subjects in a frame. Be sure to blanace those parts unequally.

MULTIPLES (THE PRINCIPLE OF UNEQUAL SPACING): When there are more than two attractive subjects in a frame, be sure to balance them in such a way that those subjects are attracting equal attention.
