What is the rule of thirds?The rule of thirds is when you chop the picture into nine boxes and you put the subject on the lines to make the shot look better. If you have the subject in the middle of the screen it makes you focus on the middle and if you have the subject on the right you will focus on the subject and around that area.

Why use the rule of thirds?

• We used the rule of thirds on the flower shot because we wanted you to only focus on the flower/middle and not the background.

• We used the rule of thirds on the 2nd shot to show that even though the focus isn’t in the middle of the shot you still get dragged to the subject.

How the rule of thirds is used in this picture?

• The director used the rule of thirds in this shot to show his head is on the left of the 2 middle boxes to make you look at him but to also show he is hiding and looking at something.
