Isobel Mair School has served special needs children for over 25 years. The original school was founded by Dr Isobel Mair and parents of children with additional support needs. Its original site was in Clarkston but, due to the first class edu-cation offered by the school, the pupil role grew and additional campuses popped up across East Renfrewshire over an eight mile radius. In 2010 East Renfrewshire Council embarked on building an educational facility in Newton Mearns. The aim being to house all these magnificent children under one roof and the new school was officially opened in March 2012. It now has a school role of just over 100 children and now pupils can enjoy sensory gardens, great classrooms and even a hydrotherapy pool.A welcome addition to the school was the introduction of the Isobel Mair Family Centre which provides all pre-schoolers access to ex-cellent nursery education. The aim of the school and family centre is to provide every pupil with the chance to develop their learning and skills to the highest level that they are capable of attaining. The school and family centre celebrates every success that a child makes and perhaps most importantly pupils are taught by exceptionally dedicated staff in a fun and safe environment. You will often see pupils from the school and family centre around the Mearns area be it enjoying lessons in Rouken Glen Park or visiting local shops to buy things for the school. Isobel Mair School and Family Centre are very much an integral part of life in East Renfrewshire and we would like to thank the community for all the support given in the past, during Mearns Community Week and in the future.
