Loose On All FoursOn Friday, March 6th, one of the Meadows of Brushy Creek

HOA board members had an interesting drive home from work. While driving on Cornerwood, between Racine and Neenah, he observed a loose dog.

He pulled over to observe and see what can be done. The dog was dodging from one side of Cornerwood, to the other. Drivers were stopping, sometimes at last minute to avoid hitting the dog. The dog was also observed approaching joggers, homeowners, children, and other people walking their dog.

He approached the timid dog, but, unfortunately, the dog appeared to be either have been abused by a male, or preferred females, as the dog snarled and seemed timid. The dog continued to wander up and down Neenah, dodging from one side to another. A couple homeowners had now secured their children for their protection. Fortunately, the dog trusted a young lady walking her dog, and neither of the dogs challenged each other. The young lady managed to hold the dog while a leash was borrowed from a homeowner.

The dog was now controlled. Other neighbors came out, communicating how dangerous the situation was and how

thankful they were for situation to be under control. The Williamson County police department was called, and

eventually appeared. The tags from the dog revealed the addressed, a phone number, and another etched phone number. The office went to see if anyone was home. The officer returned and attempted to contact the owner from the numbers listed. The owner was not available to retrieve their dog as they were busy at a local high school function and was sending a neighbor to retrieve the dog.

While waiting, the neighbors, the officer, and others made observations about the dog. The officer said that it was full or at least part pit-bull.

Finally, the neighbor appeared to retrieve the dog. The officer also received information from Animal Control that they had reports of previous problems from the owners address. The officer said that Animal Control was more than likely going to receive a citation.

In Summary, please keep your dog on a leash. Be ready to be approached by other dogs that may be dangerous. If you observe a loose dog, please don’t hesitate to call Animal Control at 512-943-1389 or 311.

Celebrate Healthy Children at 10th Annual Toast to the Rock

Round Rock Circle of Friends Wine Festival to Benefit Dell Children’s Medical Center

Submitted by Jennefer Allen

Round Rock Circle of Friends invites the community to celebrate good health for its children at the 10th Annual Toast to the Rock Wine Festival, benefiting Dell Children’s Medical Center. The event will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 3 pm-6 pm at the Fern Bluff Community Center in Round Rock, 7320 Wyoming Springs Drive.

Round Rock Circle of Friends celebrates ten years of success since it held its first Toast to the Rock event in 1999. The group has raised almost $500,000 for children’s healthcare, first supporting Children’s Hospital of Austin and now supporting Dell Children’s Medical Center since opening in 2007.

Dell Children’s is an extraordinary medical center and is the first hospital in the world to receive the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum designation, given by the U.S. Green Building Council. This state-of-the-art pediatric medical center conserves energy, reduces water consumption, uses renewable resources and recycles waste. As a not-for-profit medical center, every child throughout a 46-county Central Texas region – including Round Rock – receives outstanding pediatric healthcare, regardless of his or her family’s ability to pay for services.

Toast to the Rock is a fabulous afternoon of wine-tasting, food sampling, silent auction and musical entertainment by the Giovedi

Let me introduce myself to you—I am a new resident of the Brushy Creek MUD. My dog, Aurelius, and I drove down to Texas, singing the usual “100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”, from my home state in the lovely, but frostbitten, land of ten thousand lakes, Minnesota—can anyone blame me? I am sitting on a picnic table overlooking the sculptures of a pioneer woman and her child looking over the Chisholm Trail on Chisholm Trail Park Road off 620. I can’t help wondering what her thoughts were leaving for parts unknown about 150 years earlier. At 65, I too feel like a pioneer, only the amenities are quite different. No covered wagons, no pot to cook meals over an open fire, and I don’t have to follow the rivers to pursue my destiny. On my journey south, my car was equipped with GPS and a cooler full of organic treats. Even with the different accoutrements, it is no less frightening or daunting. Only the anticipation of replacing my winter snow boot and my winter hat with earflaps for a pair of cowboy boots and a ten-gallon hat kept me going on my two-day trip. When I first considered moving to Austin, it all seemed so easy: finding a realtor, getting a loan, finding the perfect place to call home, it seemed like a piece of cake. The joke was on me. I guess I didn’t do my homework before I made the move: different lawn, different trees, when to water the lawn, when not? Until I moved down here I had never even heard of a MUD. New city, new home, new RULES… Wow. I didn’t know I needed to get a state inspection and register my car all to get a new drivers license. Now, I drive around with my Texas license plates trying to find places and streets I’ve never heard of. How many names and numbers can a highway legally have? For a northerner moving south there can be quite a culture shock. I only knew I would soon be saying “hi, ya all” I can do that. I do love the weather and the people I have met are wonderful. I just have so many questions. As a new member of the community, I would love there to be simple answers. I am sure I am not the only new homeowner out there looking for more ways to get involved in the community. A great first step for me was going to the Brushy Creek Community Center. They have some great classes and I was able to meet some wonderful new people and even get a few of the answers I was looking for, but I still have a million more. I just keep telling myself it will take some time. For now I am looking forward to a wonderful future here with new friends and lots of sun, where blizzards are but a memory.

Meadows of Brushy CreekGreen Tips –

Saving Money For Free!Saving energy is not only good for our environment, but also

marvelous for our wallets. The problem is that most of the time, home owners have to spend

money first, to buy CFL light bulbs, a Hybrid Car or solar panels. Now there is a way to save lots of energy by sealing your doors, windows, vents, and other areas at NO cost!

The power companies pay for these services by sending various companies to provide the energy savings services – a ‘win/win’. They to seal doors, caulk your windows, put gaskets in your outlets and power switches and cover the vents in your attic. They don’t charge for materials, but a cup of coffee is often appreciated.

For more information, please contact Debra Johnson, or send an email to [email protected]

What Is Recyclable?Recyclable items that are accepted: newspaper, magazines, white

office paper, aluminum, steel and tin cans, milk jugs, clear and colored plastic bottles (please remove any caps or lids off the plastic bottles). Thanks for recycling!

Tickets are $40 per person and $75 per couple and can be purchased online at www.toasttotherock.com or through the Children’s Medical Center Foundation website at www.childrensaustin.org.
