10-piece Matchmaker Band Serves Up Motown SoundsFor S-A-S Scholarship Fundraiser-Concert, Feb. 2Spicewood Arts Society event features fun, food…soul, funk &

dance musicSPICEWOOD, TX (Dec. 16, 2012) – The Spicewood Arts

Society’s Third Annual Scholarship Fundraiser features the 10-piece Matchmaker Band of Austin in concert at 7 p.m., Sat., Feb. 2, at the Spicewood Events Center, (1419 Burnet C.R. 409). (http://www.matchmakerband.com)

“What a great way to start the Valentine season,” said Martha Norwood, president of the 13-year-old nonprofit. “Matchmaker, with its four stunning vocalists, will raise the roof and SAS will raise money for fine arts scholarships.”

“This show band specializes in the sounds of Motown, soul, funk and dance music,” Norwood said. “And we’re limiting seating to 130 persons so there will be adequate space for dancing. We’re expecting another successful sell-out, thanks to our loyal members, patrons and sponsors.”

The performing group is drawn from Drew D’Entremont (drums), Jim Shields (bass), Ange Kogutz (vocals), David Robison (trumpet), Chase Gassaway (percussion/vocals), Jerry Wise (vocals), Amos Traystman (guitar), Dan Redner (keys), Gil Del Bosque (saxophone), Megan Wise (vocals), Jordan Whitmore (vocals), Kyle Nowakowski (drums), Eric Ross (bass) and Ryan Harkrider (vocals).

Chef Taylor Hall, A.O.S., of Spicewood, owner of Chef Taylor Hall Dinner Party services, will host the “Meet the Artists” reception, providing generous offerings of hors d’oeuvres with lovers in mind. His firm is known among area gourmet enthusiasts for a new dining

concept. (http://www.cheftaylorhall.com/).The concert will be at the Spicewood Vineyards Events Center

(1419 Burnet CR 409), about 18 miles from Marble Falls, 35 miles from Downtown Austin and three miles off Texas Hwy. 71. Spicewood Vineyards wines will be available for purchase before, during and after the show. (http://www.spicewoodvineyards.com/)

Tickets are $75 online (http://www.spicewoodarts.org/) or by mail, P. O. Box 533, Spicewood, TX 78669, 512-264-2820.

“SAS is dedicated to the performing, visual and literary arts – including education – in the Texas Hill Country,” said Debbie Opdahl, VP-Community Outreach.

“Six Fine Arts Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded next spring to qualified seniors, three at Marble Falls High School and three at Lake Travis H.S., just as it was this past year,” Opdahl emphasized. “And this concert accounts for a major portion of those proceeds.”

Matchmaker Band offers a program loaded with classic tunes featuring songs by Aretha Franklin, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight, Jackie Wilson, Stevie Wonder, the Commodores, The Jackson 5, the Bee Gees, Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and many more.

“We are going to pretty much party the night away with funky retro tunes, great food, friends and fun for a great cause,” Norwood added.
