REcEIVES GRANTS Round Rock ISD has received more than $100,000 ingrantsfromTGandtheUnitedWayofWilliamsonCounty(UWWC)tohelpstudentsthroughamentoringprogramforthe2010-2011schoolyear.TG’sgranttothedistricttotaled$96,996tobeginaCollegeBoundMentorProgram,andtheUWWCawarded$10,000totheRoundRockISDPartnersinEducationFoundationtobeusedforthedistrict’smentoringprogram. “We are very thankful to bothTG and the UnitedWayofWilliamson County not only for the dollars which willhelp fund theseprograms, but also for their recognitionofMentoring as an important part of the learning process,”RoundRockISDSuperintendentDr.JesúsH.Chávezsaid.“WeareworkinghardtouseallavenuestoensureeachandeverystudentatRoundRockISDsucceeds. RoundRockISDwasoneof50educationalinstitutionsfromacrossthecountrytoreceiveaportionofTG’s$5.6milliongrantfundsandwilluseittomatch150middleandhighschoolstudentswithmentorstrainedinencouragingstudents’collegeandcareeraspirations.TGgrantsweregiventoeducationalentities to advance access to college, student retention, andeducational research.This is the sixth consecutive yearTGhasawardedthecompetitivegrantsthroughitsPublicBenefitGrantProgram,thecompany'sphilanthropicinitiative. “Thesegrantsreflectourcontinuedcommitmenttosupportprogramsthatpromoteandimproveaccesstohighereducation,particularly for low-income students," said Sue McMillin,TGPresidentandCEO."Byhelpingtheseprogramssucceed,webelievewe aremaking adifference for the students andcommunitiesservedbytheseprograms." UWWCBoardofDirectorsawardedCommunityInvestmentGrantstoeighteennonprofitprogramsservingtheresidentsofWilliamsonCountywitheachofthefundedprogramsaimedatcreatinganimpactinaspecificareasuchasimprovingschoolreadinessandincreasinggraduationrates.Theorganizationisawarding$380,000tothechosenorganizations,eachwithaspecificimpactgoalintheareaofeducation,income/financialstabilityorhealth. “ItisourresponsibilitytothosewhoinvestinUWWCtoensurethatthedonor’smoniesaresupportingprogramsthatmakethemostimpactinourcommunity,”MichelleRobertson,chairoftheUWWCBoardofDirectorssaid.“Thevolunteersthatservedonourreviewpanelusedathoughtfulandcarefulprocesstodeterminetheprogramsthatwouldbestmeetthegoalswehaveset.Thisprocessisoneofthemainreasonswhydonorsbelieveinourmission."
