Catholic Strong is a campaign that owes much of its theme to Pope Francis’ call on all of us to become Missionary Disciples. This concept he first broached in his 2013 Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). “The Joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept His offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew. In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” From there he tasked us to do more, to welcome more, to embrace more by becoming missionary disciples. ““I dream of a 'missionary option,' that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation.” The Catholic Strong campaign has at its core an emphasis on evangelization, to bring back those Catholics who have fallen away and to inspire non-Catholics to join us in a faith that is enthusiastic and joyful. Through your support, we will create in both our parishes and the diocese new programs and initiatives to evangelize to all who wish to find a home in our South Jersey Catholic community. OUR PLAN: The Catholic Community of South Jersey has evolved tremendously over the course of its 80 year existence. Now, the time has come for this generation of Catholics to contribute to the great history of our diocese. We must invest in evangelization programs, lay faith formation, and professional development for parish staff and ministers. As vital and active members of the Diocese of Camden wishing to make our contribution, we are beginning the Catholic Strong Campaign to provide the resources needed to ensure our parishes are financially stable, strengthen Catholic education, expand our outreach capabilities, and enhance our evangelization efforts. A successful campaign will ensure the vitality of our faith communities and ultimately meet the evolving needs of our Diocese. Every parish will share in these efforts with an allocated goal. Our parish target is to raise a minimum of $1,245,000, of which we will receive 70% of the collected amount (or a minimum of $871,500) that will go toward parish needs. Additionally, we will receive 80% of all funds collected over our parish target. We will also include our 2018 House of Charity target ($144,446) in the overall total. Therefore, our total parish target is $1,389,446. We will use our share of funds to address the following ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH | $175,000 • Renovate outside of the church/siding and windows jams ($75,000) • Renovate steeple siding ($5,000) • Replace doors ($5,000) • Repair and/or replace sidewalks ($35,000) • Upgrade to LED lighting for all church fixtures ($30,000) • Purchase cameras and alarms both church and rectory ($25,000)

ASSUMPTION CHURCH | $689,000 CHURCH: • Purchase eight new doors: four at the entrance to narthex and four at the entrance to Church with locks and crash bars ($50,000) • Purchase new lighting controls panel ($16,000) • Repair and/or replace sidewalks ($30,000) • Repave and reline parking lot ($190,000) • Properly repair steeple ($48,000) • Purchase security cameras and update alarms system; purchase three cameras with Wi-Fi to stream Mass to shut-ins, nursing homes and hospital; and update technology in church ($100,000) RECTORY: • Purchase two new storm doors and alarm system ($20,000) OFFICE: • Purchase two new doors with entrance buzzer system with cameras and a central station alarm system ($25,000) MINISTRY: • Hire full-time youth and young adult director and fund salary of $40,000-$45,000 per year for three years ($120,000-$135,000) • Hire part-time minister to our senior parishioners and fund salary of $25,000 per year for three years ($75,000)

Stewards Give Back “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;

All of us are blessed, regardless of our own individual circumstances; God has given each of us many gifts. How we use those gifts in Stewardship is our gift back to God. For God’s plan to work, each must do what we are called to do and guess what – we are not all called to do the same thing!

Peace and all good!

Today we celebrate Pentecost, a great festival in our Church! The outpouring of the Holy Spirit that came upon the early Church continues today. As we move through this week, may we be especially mindful of the Holy Spirit’s presence with and among us, and may we help our children and grandchildren to know the peace that the Spirit brings. May we do what we can to bring peace to our world, to our country, to our community, to our parish, to our school, and to our family. Our annual field trips will begin this week! On Wednesday, May 23, our 3rd Graders will visit Cold Spring Village in Lower Township. On Thursday, May 24, our Junior High students will venture out to many places. The 6th Grade will visit the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Liberty State Park and the Statue of Liberty will be the destination for the 7th Grade. Our 8th Graders will make the customary trip to Washington, DC and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. On Wednesday, May 30, our four-year-olds will head to Storybook Land, while the 1st Graders will travel to the Atlantic City Aquarium. The Cape May County Zoo is the stop for our 2nd Graders. The State House the Old Barracks in Trenton will be the destination of our 4th Graders, who have been learning about New Jersey all year in Social Studies. The American Revolutionary Museum in Philadelphia will be the place to find our 5th Graders. On Thursday, May 31, our Kindergarteners will visit The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor. Please hold all of our students, teachers, and chaperones in your prayer for these field trip days! As always, thank you so very much for your continued support of our school. LANCASTER TRIP - Join Fr. Vincent and fellow parishioners for a bus trip to Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA, to see “Jesus”, on Wednesday, August 22. Tickets are $135 per person. CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION There will be a solemn procession on Sunday, June 3rd at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish - St. Nicholas site, 525 St. Louis Ave. Egg Harbor City, between the conclusion of the 8:45am Mass on Sunday and the beginning of the l0:30am Spanish Mass, to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, The Body of Christ. All are welcome to join the congregation as they walk in procession around the church grounds to four adorned altars. First Communicants are invited to wear their white dresses or suits in the procession. The Altar and Rosary Society, various prayer groups, secular Franciscans, and combined choirs will all participate in the procession.
