Let’s Eat PORT ALBERNI • SPRING 2015 PRESENTED BY S eh-Mi Japanese Restaurant is a pearl tucked away on the outskirts of the Alberni Valley in the Timberlodge Motel. Owned by Ki Yoon, formerly by his father Teawoon Yoon, it is the go to place for sushi. They are open 7 days a week from 11:30 a.m. To 9:00 p.m. Ki apprenticed with his father at their former location in Abbotsford. He has been in the business ever since he was 15 years of age. The family moved to the Valley in 2006 and have built a local clientele. They not only serve several types of sushi, they also have appetizers such as seaweed salad, edamame, agetashi tofu, beef tataki, and BBQ eel to name a few. Vegetarians can partake in a variety of of choices which include veggie sunomono. For those not interested in sushi they also have grilled beef, salmon, chicken and tempura. The seating is from intimate booths to tables, they also have a patio for outdoor dining, weather permitting. This eatery can be defined as family and fine dining. No scrimping on portions as all are generous. If you choose you can also have take out. There is plenty of parking space and the premiss is air conditioned for your comfort, wheelchair accessible as well as licensed. They can seat up to 76 within the restaurant and 50 on the patio. When Kevin Wright had a vision for the Uptown, he started with his own business. The Steam

Punk Café showcases the kind of innovation that can be achieved with hard work and imagination.

The Café is heavily decorated in the Steam Punk style and has become a popular gathering spot in the area with local residents and business people lining up looking for their daily coffee x.

The helpful baristas at the counter make amazing coffee and other beverages and are happy to add fresh baked goods, homemade soup,

salads and homemade paninis to your order. Ask about gluten free and vegan options as well.

In addition to comfy seating and tables inside, an outdoor patio built off the sidewalk allows patrons to take in the city while enjoying their lunch. As well, a unique art piece built from industrial machinery graces the sidewalk in front of the café, adding to the local avour.

Owner Kevin Wright is typically on the job 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, so he is thankful for a hardworking and dedicated staff that make every customer’s experience as positive as possible.

Brad Declercq, chef and owner of The Starboard Grill, is passionate about food. He loves to create family-friendly meals with a West Coast air using

local ingredients whenever possible. Brad prefers fresh ingredients and creates his own ground burgers, cod, halibut, salmon, pickerel, soups and desserts all in house.

Be sure to order Brad’s award-winning signature soup Candied Salmon Chowder, a true West Coast taste unique to The Starboard Grill.

Brad loves to create in the kitchen, but he knows he can’t run a successful restaurant like The Starboard Grill without help.

“Fantastic staff are a major part of our success and they really enjoy what they do,” says Brad. “they make me very proud.”

Location is another big feature of The Starboard Grill. Located on the waterfront at Harbour Quay, they are the

only restaurant in Port Alberni with a patio right on the water. Whether you are seated inside the restaurant or out on the protected patio, the view of the Alberni Inlet is spectacular year round.

The Starboard Grill can accommodate up to 100 people inside and another 80 on the patio, so it’s a great choice for any event or celebration.

LET’S EAT • PORT ALBERNI • SPRING 2015

We feel great pride in being islanders from Port Alberni, BC. Our unparalleled hospitality,

unique environment and the best foods available will make you want to come again much sooner then you planned.

Most people in the Alberni valley are very familiar with the wonderful service from the staff and many of whom have been with The Little Bavaria for many years and of course the cuisine is unforgettable. Ana is the chef and has been since 1983.

People come from all over to sample the same great Schnitzels for lunch or dinner. Kathy and her staff continue to enjoy serving you in this very nostalgic and popular restaurant.

Little Bavaria Restaurant has specialized in German food and hospitality since 1966. That’s when German-born Eddie Schoenborn made his dream come true. He and his wife Gina opened The Little Bavaria Restaurant on 4th Avenue in Port Alberni. The rest as we say is local history.

Featuring the freshest of ingredients, our delicious cuisine is served in an intimate and cozy atmosphere by our friendly staff.

For that special occasion, business dinner, or family outing, come and experience the Little Bavaria Restaurant. We guarantee you will be treated like family by our “family”. In Port Alberni, the Little Bavaria Restaurant is the place to be!

We issue a special invitation to visitors to our beautiful part of the world to stop in and enjoy our hospitality on the way to To no and Ucluelet and the rugged beauty of the Paci c Rim National Park (Long Beach).

And for the absolutely best gift for birthdays, Christmas or that special anniversary, ask our staff for one of our coveted Little Bavaria Gift Certi cates. What better way to show your love and appreciation than with good food, wonderful atmosphere, and great people! Our staff will be always happy to help you.

At Quality Foods we want to make customer shopping a unique and positive experience … even if that means doing

the cooking for you! Quality Foods in Port Alberni offers a wide choice of meals that can be enjoyed at one of the two dining areas in-store or take it with you to enjoy at home.

Perk Café - On the main oor, next to the deli, is Perk Café with cafeteria style service and friendly dining area.

As one of the rst grocers in Canada to add hot Chinese food to our store offerings, we set the standard in freshness, avour and convenience.

Today, hot Chinese food is prepared fresh on the premises each day. Choose from Chinese favourites such as Chow Mein, Rice, Sweet and Sour chicken balls, Szechuan Beef, Chop Suey, deep fried prawns and much more and create a 1, 2, 3, or 4 Item combos or Mini Combo to create your favourite Chinese meal.  With all the choices you can have a different meal each time!

Rocco’s Authentic Recipe Pizza is created fresh in-store each day by our talented chefs, using our signature hand-stretched Italian crust and fresh-quality ingredients. Choose from a wide variety of toppings, including fresh handchopped vegetables and meats. Baked to perfection at extreme temperatures directly on hot-stone oven decks, Rocco’s Authentic Recipe Pizza delivers a

crispy, yet tender crust every time.

Across from the deli, sushi is served up fresh daily by the sushi masters from Blue Ginger. Popular California and dynamite rolls as well as other signature sushi rolls, nigiri, sunomono, inari and other Japanese fare are offered.

A Step Above Outlet Store - A Step Above in Port Alberni is now an outlet store where you’ll nd brands you know and love at half price or better!

We invite you to step upstairs and sink into comfy armchairs that beckon you to relax and enjoy a break from your busy day. Sit inside overlooking the store or move outdoors to the patio.

We proudly brew delicious Starbucks Coffee, which goes perfectly with one (or two!) of our sumptuous baked treats. Or stop in for the daily lunch special with sandwiches, soup and salad served in a great atmosphere surrounded by beautiful kitchen, bath and home décor items.

It’s hard to believe you are still in a grocery store!
