JUDGES HINTS AND TIPS What makes a winning entry according to our judges?

What makes a winning entry?

• The issue being addressed is common toprocurement teams everywhere so judges willclearly understand the issue being addressed.• The quality of the submission must be obviousfrom the first few sentences. The Judges will bereading hundreds of documents and so if you cangrab the attention immediately it will be a positive.• Clearly drafted with short sharp communicationand no rambling• Supporting evidence that is very clearly referencedand illustrates the quality. Simply attaching a 20-page PowerPoint pack is not appealing.

• Emotion and passion are critical. If these come outin the submission you will differentiate yourself. (If itis obvious that the submission is prepared by aconsultant such appeal is lost.)• Uniqueness. If your presented solution orperformance is unique you will attract attention

3 top tips for a successful submission

1.Win the attention of the reader immediately.2. If emotion and passion comes through, you haveincreased chance of being differentiated.3. Ensure that the submission has authenticity andis about your team’s achievements. Judges willrecognise the work of a consultant.

What makes a winning entry?

• A successful submission is not duplicated intoseveral award categories• It has generated tangible results and clearlyarticulates why the results have been impressive• It shows passion and dedication to theprocurement function• The entry has 1 or 2 strong testimonials from otherfunctions

3 top tips for a successful submission

1. Be short, to the point and do not repeat sentencesin various paragraphs2. Think about judges who have to review hundreds ofentries in few days: use key words to attract attentionwhich will allow judges to understand what the entryis all about3. Submit testimonialswhich will explain how thework procurement has delivered helped the business:it is better to have an entry which focuses on thebusiness rather than self-centred procurement

What makes a winning entry?

• Those submitting their application need torecognize that there are senior procurementexecutives reviewing their materials. They ought toavoid anything that makes reading the applicationdifficult or annoying (like too much and irrelevantcontent).• Stick to the guidance and answer the questions.Avoid going off on tangents..• Describe the role the respective Procurement teamplayed very clearly. These are Procurement awards, which means we need to assess the contribution ofthe procurement group or leaders.

•Make sure you think through what award to submitfor. The submission should be clear and relevant forthe respective category.

3 top tips for a successful submission

1. The more specific the better. Actual results, progress vs. set goals, etc.2. Provide strong stakeholder feedback, ideally fromvery senior leaders outside of the procurementfunction.3. Less is more. It is critical to avoid being repetitivewith the content. A short and impactful submissionwill do.
