The number line can be set to work with decimal, integer, or whole number values and calculates comparisons and distances between plotted points. Probability Tool Allows students to investigate experimental probability with spinners, coins, number cubes, and marbles. There are options for two spinners, two coins, two number cubes, and various marble combinations with or without replacement. The tool also reveals the number of faces, edges, and vertices in the figures and shapes. Transformation Tool Allows students to place various plane figures on the coordinate plane and then rotate, dilate, reflect, or translate them showing both the pre-image and image. Multiple transformations, a history panel showing previous transformations, a ruler, and a protractor are special features of this tool. CompassLearning" 229

The Math Toolkit from CompassLearning brings essential mathematics tools to each student'sOdyssey desktop. Included in all Odyssey preK-8 math programs, the Math Toolkit features 12tools that enable students to interact with graphic representations of math functions.

Algebra Tiles Allow students to use pre-setexpressions to create their own algebraic

expressions and use algebra tiies to represent values.

Base Ten Blocks Allow students to use ones, tens, and hundreds blocks to represent numbers

Calculator Allows students to use a full-function calculator.

Coordinate Graphing Tool Allows studentsto plot lines, linear inequalities, points, and

other special relationships on the coordinate plane. Thestudent can pan around the coordinate plane, changethe scale, magnify the viewing window, and rotate linesand linear inequalities.

Counters Allow students to use items, represent-ing positive and negative numbers, to practice

and charts, such as bar charts, line graphs, circle charts, histograms, stem-and-leaf plots, and box-and-whiskerplots. The tool also calculates the mean, median, mode, and range of data sets.

Fraction Tool Allows students to use circleor bar modes to model, compare, add, or

Geoboard Tool Allows students to make poly-gons using simulated rubber bands on a peg

board. The student can measure their created shapesto find lengths and angle measures. The Geoboard toolcalculates the area and perimeter of the shapes as well.

Data Representation Tool Allows studentsto enter data and create various types of graphs

Number Line Tool Allows students to plotpoints, rays, and inequalities on a number line, as

well as perform addition and subtraction operations on twoor three numbers on a number line. The number line can beset to work with decimal, integer, or whole number valuesand calculates comparisons and distances betweenplotted points.

Probability Tool Allows students to investigateexperimental probability with spinners, coins,

number cubes, and marbles. There are options for twospinners, two coins, two number cubes, and variousmarble combinations with or without replacement.

Solid Shaper Tool Allows students to see, color, and dilate two-dimensional and three-

dimensional figures and shapes. The tool also revealsthe number of faces, edges, and vertices in the figuresand shapes.

Transformation Tool Allows students to placevarious plane figures on the coordinate plane

and then rotate, dilate, reflect, or translate them showingboth the pre-image and image. Multiple transformations,a history panel showing previous transformations, a ruler, and a protractor are special features of this tool.

Students can explore mathematical ideas and solve problems using a variety of on-line manipulatives. Manipulativesallow the students to move objects to make visual representations of mathematical concepts. The key to usingmanipulatives is for the student to be able to construct meaning through a discovery method by using the mouse tocontrol physical actions of objects and applying it to real-world context.
