“The soldiers mocked him too, and when they approached to offer vinegar they said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’” Luke 23:36. The mocking soldiers represent the complete failure of the world to understand who Jesus is. His dominion is not limited to being King of the Jews, he is King of the Universe; neither was his purpose to save his own life but the lives of all mankind by making the sacrifice which would lead to his resurrection and our access, through him, to eternal life. It was in response to the growing impact of narrow secular and nationalistic influences that Pope Pius instituted the feast of Christ King of the Universe in 1925. The heart that mocks what is outside its own experience, the heart that would exclude universal love by means of political and social stratagems – even violence – that heart mocks the prayer Christ the King made to his father for us not long before his death: “… that they may be one as we are one -- I in them and you in me -- so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” I can’t help thinking this is a message that our nation really needs to hear this year.

Darkness to Light Advent Service, Sunday, 1st December, at 6.30pm
at St Mary Magdalene Church We have been invited to join with St
Mary Magdalene Church for the ‘Darkness to Light’ Advent Service.
The service starts in candlelight & will comprise of interesting & stimulating music as well as classic advent carols, together with readings in preparation for the Christmas season. Please do

There will be a Guided Prayer Group follow-up session in the Parish Centre on Tuesday, 3rd December, 6pm to 7pm. We will look at & pray with readings for the
following Sunday, with Prego leaflet, which can be downloaded from St Bruno’s Outreach, the week before. All welcome.

The next “Nearly New Paperback Bookstall ” will be held on Sunday, 1st December. We are always glad to
receive good quality books to sell in the Centre; please bring them in at any time.
The Cards for Good Causes Charity Christmas Card Shop
is now open in the Taunton Visitor Centre until Saturday, 21st December.
Proceeds from every card or product sold makes a vital contribution to the work of
the many national & local charities we partner.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Forms need to be in TODAY
If your child is in Year 3 or above and you would like him/her to make
his/her First Holy Communion in 2020, please email the Rectory to

Full details & an Application Form will be emailed to those who have registered their child; application
forms are also available at the back of both churches. Sessions for the children will start in January 2020.
Closing Date for applications will be Sunday, 24th November; late applications may not be accepted.
