Step 4: Mark your fabric

For Mask 2:

Cut out your mask template and using a water or air soluble fabric pen, draw the outline of the mask AND the eyeholes. Make tick marks where gray lines meet the edge of the mask and also mark the center dot.

For Masks 1, 3, 5 Cut out your mask template and trace the outline onto the fused pellon with a fabric-marking pen. Mark the red tick marks but do not draw in the eyeholes. You are ready to move on to Step 5.

With a ruler and fabric pen, lightly draw the gray lines onto your red fabric.

Using black topstitching thread, sew over the lines, beginning outside the edge of the mask, pivoting at the center dot and

continuing out past the opposite side of the mask.

Sew concentric circles around lines, using your sewing machine foot as a guide. Be sure to begin your stitch either in an eyehole, or off

the edge of the mask.

When finished, your stitching should look like this. Notice how all stitching begins and ends either in an eyehole, or off the edge of

the mask.

Flip fabric over to Pellon side and match your stitches with the lines on your mask template. Trace the mask (do not trace the

eyeholes).

You are now ready to move on to Step 5.

For Mask 4:

Cut out Mask 4 center pattern piece and trace onto the yellow fabric.

Pin two pieces of yellow fabric, right sides together. Sew, leaving bottom open.

Pin yellow center piece to red fabric and edge stitch. Double check placement by referencing your Mask 4 template.

Trim seams, clip corners and turn right side out. Press flat.

Flip fabric over to pellon side and match your mask template with your stitching lines (it won’t be an exact match, just center it). Trace

the mask (do not trace the eyeholes).

Step 5: Sew Mask

Pin backing and pellon/outer fabric with right sides together.

Sew along your marked line, leaving top of mask open between tick marks. Use a short stitch (I used a 2) so you can get an accurate

outline.

Trim seam allowances (I trim them to a little less than ”). Clip curves and corners.

Turn mask right side out and press. Slipstitch opening closed (I like to

do this last).

Step 6: Sew Eyes

Trace eyes onto your mask (you can trace them onto the front or the back, whichever fabric will show the fabric marker better). Next, sew along the eye outline you just drew. Don’t worry about it being perfect. Your stitching will not show in the end.

For Masks 2 & 4: You have the option to add black organza over the eyeholes

Take the piece of black organza and lay it on the front of the mask, over the eyes holes. Pin in place.

Cut out eyehole just inside your stitching line.

Step 7: Add Felt Pieces

You can choose to stitch around the felt at this time, but there is no

need to do this, unless you plan to wash the masks.

Sew around the eyeholes over the previous stitching line. Trim down outer edges of organza.

Trace corresponding appliqué pieces to Heat N Bond. Iron Heat N Bond to felt following manufacturer’s instructions. Carefully cut out felt pieces, remove backing and iron on to masks using photos as a guide.

Step 8: Add Elastic

Sew elastic to masks using the mask template as a guide. Elastic will be sewn on at red tick marks on sides. You may machine sew using

matching thread, or hand sew to the back of the mask.

You will want to sew one side and then fit your mask on the wearer before sewing the second side.

Step 9: Have a Super Kids Party!
