NL De 23-jarige studente Ada Aimee De La Cruz werd in één klap beroemd toen ze in 2009 Miss Dominicaanse Republiek werd en bij de Miss Universe verkiezingen 2009 eindigde als tweede. Ze woont nu in Santo Domingo, een paar uur westwaarts van Punta Cana.
Hoe was het om Miss Dominicaanse Republiek te worden?Magistraal. Als kind keek ik naar missverkiezingen op televisie en paradeerde dan door het huis met een kroon op mijn hoofd, al roepend “Ik ben Miss Dominicaanse Republiek!”
Wat is je geheime lievelingsplekje in de Dominicaanse Republiek?Het privéstrand van de Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana (www.secretsresorts.com), een hotel in Punta Cana. Het is exclusief en schitterend mooi.
Heb je nog andere goede tips?Don Pepe in Santo Domingo voor heerlijke Japanse, Amerikaanse en Dominicaanse gerechten (de jalapeños zijn er een must). Om te dansen Jet Set (av. Independencia 2253, Santo Domingo) – elke maan-dag speelt er een geweldige Latinband. En La Romana (tussen Punta Cana en Santo Domingo) om te winkelen.
Wat brengt de toekomst?Ik doe business studies, speel in een soap en werk als model in New York. En ik heb net een lokale film gedaan, Crimen.
EN Student Ada Aimeé De La Cruz, 23, shot to fame last year when she was crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2009 – and then went on to be named first runner-up in Miss Universe 2009. She lives in Santo Domingo, a few hours west of Punta Cana.
What was it like to be crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2009?Magical. As a child, I’d watch the pageants on TV, and then parade around the house saying: “I’m Miss Dominican Republic!”
What’s your favourite “secret” spot in the Dominican Republic?The private beach at the Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana (www.secretsresorts.com), a hotel in Punta Cana. It’s very exclusive – and so beautiful.”
Any other hot tips?Don Pepe in Santo Domingo for great Japanese, American and Dominican food (make sure you try their jalapenos). Jet Set (av. Independencia 2253, Santo Domingo) for dancing – there’s a live orchestra every Monday that plays great Latin music. La Romana (between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo) for shopping.
What’s next for you?Studying business administration, preparing to act in a soap opera and modelling in New York. Plus I’ve just worked on a local movie called Crimen.
