FEAST DAYS THIS WEEK
Monday, January 21st St. Agnes, Virgin & Martyr
Thursday, January 24th St. Francis de Sales, Bishop & Doctor of the Church
Saturday, January 25th The Conversion of St. Paul.
OUT OF THE COLD – YOUR SUPPORT On Sunday February 3rd St. Clement Parish will sponsor the Out of the Cold programme jointly hosted by St. Matthew’s Anglican Church and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. We will supply a hot, nutritious meal for the homeless men who gather there each Sunday evening. You
can help by donating the following items: travel sized toothpaste and deodorants, tooth brushes, warm winter socks and new thermal undergarments. Large sized backpacks are also welcome. You may leave them in the church lobby or drop them at the parish office.
FIRST COMMUNION ENROLMENT This weekend, at the 9:30 Sunday morning Mass, children from our First Sacraments Programme will be enrolled as candidates for First Communion. They will be called forward by name and presented with an Enrolment Cross. Their parents will make a solemn commitment to support them on their journey by bringing them to Mass each Sunday.
COMMUNION CLASSES BEGIN Young people who celebrated their First Confession in the Fall term will now begin preparation for First Communion. Classes for those registered in our First Sacraments Programme will resume this Monday, January 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Parents, please drop students off at least ten minutes before class begins, and pick them up promptly at 8:00 p.m. Thank you.
LIGHTING REFIT We have been working to refit our church lighting with LED technology. This project will ultimately lower our electricity costs and save the frequent changing of light bulbs. Outside lights were changed in 2017. Over the past week most fixtures in the parish office were replaced. What a difference! Next comes the spot lights on the Stations of the Cross and statuary in the church. Thank you for supporting the monthly Maintenance Fund.
ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED Every year a number of our parish Altar Servers leave active service. We need young people willing to take their
place at the altar. Applicants must have celebrated their First Communion. You may serve at any Mass you attend. On the job training by our Sacristan, Paul Zingone. Come to the Sacristy (where the priests and servers get ready) any weekend and we will take it from there. Parents, please encourage your sons and
daughters to participate in this important ministry.
PLEASE REGISTER! We encourage anyone attending Mass at St. Clement Church on a regular basis to formally register with the
JANUARY 20, 2019 Parish. This is especially important for those requesting Baptisms, weddings, funerals or letters of reference. The process is simple. Pick up a box of Sunday Offering envelopes at the door of the church. The first envelope in the package is your registration form. Your weekly financial support is your ongoing commitment to the parish.
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS BY CARDINAL
COLLINS A Continuing Series
Jesus tells of a rich fool, captivated by his possessions, who builds bigger barns to store his grain (Lk 12:13‐21) and says: “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat drink and be merry”. But God said to him, “Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” For us, as for the rich fool in the parable, the thought of death is spiritually fruitful, as it forces each of us to consider our priorities. What is the point of all the energy I spend on gathering treasure, or spending my time and talent on things that are ultimately useless? We need to think of the moment of death, but not wait until then to realize what is important in life, and how we can each be wise stewards of what we have received for this earthly journey.
FIRST FRIDAY ENCOUNTER Beginning in February our ENCOUNTER evenings will be held on First Fridays. On Friday, February 11th we will begin with MASS at 7:00 p.m. and then continue with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We continue our focus on the Christian Vocation with a brief witness talk on the
single life. Each evening closes at 8:00 p.m. with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Confessions are also available.
MARRIAGE SUNDAY WITH CARDINAL COLLINS Sunday February 10th is Marriage Sunday in the Archdiocese of Toronto. His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins will preside at a special Mass to honour couples celebrating milestone anniversaries (25th, 40th, 50th or 60th) in 2019. Join him on February 10th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish (150 St. Francis Ave, Woodbridge). A reception will follow. Milestone couples please register online for reserved seating at www.archtoronto.org/marriage or call 416‐934‐3400 x523. Everyone and anyone is welcome to attend.
COMMUNION FOR THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND We would be happy to bring Holy Communion to sick and homebound members of the parish. Our Visitation Ministry goes out every Sunday morning after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Other times can be arranged through the Parish Office. Deacon Milan Popik is also happy to make occasional home visits. Don’t be afraid to call
