A very similar strong trade to last week but the larger entry included a smaller proportion of premium steers and heifers but the demand remains for all types, several with scope for further fattening. Leading the heifers were Limousin crosses from the Julian Family at Summercourt selling to a top call of 227p/kg; with a heavier 630kg heifer next in line at 226p/kg realising £1,424; both bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Further good Limousin crosses from Messrs. G.W. & H.E. Hawkey of St. Wenn who saw their three steers standing top of the averages with best selling at 226p/kg to David Wilton of Peter Morris Butchers, St. Columb. Grand 800kg+ steers in from J.B. Old Farms Ltd of Treyarnon Bay, Padstow saw their 837kg Aberdeen Angus x at 190p/kg making £1,590; and 839kg Charolais x realising £1,535, both bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

Two South Devon cows leading the averages at 155p/kg for Mr. H.A. Reynolds of Nancegollan; and an 803kg cow at 150p/kg for Messrs. P. & M.R. Biddick of St. Columb overall top at £1,205, both bought by David Ellis of Lelant. Premium Friesian from Messrs. M.J. & R.M. Tremayne of Constantine selling at 136p/kg to Mr. M.R. Davey of Okehampton, with dearest black and white from a nice run from Mr. D.J. Heller of Blackwater making £1,039 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Guernseys this week to 96p/kg for Messrs. An excellent entry for early August included a superb run of strong, large frame feeding cattle from East Cornwall together with good numbers of single-suckled steers and heifers and a good run of suckler cows with calves at foot. Top prices of the day came from a grand run of 20-24 month old cattle on behalf of Messrs. D.S. Poad & Son of St. Mellion which saw their Simmental x steers to £1,290 with a younger four at £1,150, British Blue x trios to £1,170, plus a single Simmental x heifer making £1,040. Eight super Spring-born cattle again this week from the Backway Family of St. Eval saw a Blonde d’Aquitaine/Limousin x steer pair hit £1,110 and Limousin x heifers at 16 months old to £1,065. A dozen 18 month old suckler-bred Limousin crosses for Mr. E.P. Eustice of Fraddam saw steers to £1,090 and five heifers all at £965. A cracking Charolais x yearling steer from Mr. C.P. Roth of Tolgus Mount realised £945. A run of twenty tremendous steers December/January-born from Messrs. W.J. & J.C. Paull of St. Columb Minor were led by four British Blue crosses at £640, and Simmentals to £615 with a 6 month old trio at £605.

A pure-bred South Devon 2nd calver with month-old Limousin x twins for Mrs. H.A. Reynolds of Nancegollan, Helston realised £1,510. Two cows from Mr. P.J. Williams of Stithians, Truro being a Limousin and Simmental x both with April-born Limousin x calves at foot and PD’d back in-calf to the Limousin bull realised £1,295. Messrs. A.J. & S.M. Grange of Ruan High Lanes, Truro were in again with two more Sussex cows with young Pedigree Limousin-sired calves at foot selling well at £1,260 and £1,240. Three South Devon x heifers in-calf to a Pedigree Hereford bull sold to £930 for Mr. D. Moyle of Bolenowe, Camborne.

A similar entry to last week with improved prices and strong demand for an increasing number of buyers looking to source good calves. Top price at £365 was a super 18 day old British Blue x bull from Messrs. R.M. & C.D. Rundle of Mevagissey who sold even younger heifers to £300 and £295. A pure-bred Limousin month-old heifer in from Messrs. P.R. & M.A. Hooper of Lanreath topped at £340. Stirks included a nice entry of April-born Limousin crosses from Mr. C.R. Rusden of Penhallow with three heifers leading at £420 and steers to £405.
