YEARS 7 TO 13 MARIST COLLEGE Catholic School for Girls Term 2 - Number 11 Friday 3rd July, 2015 FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Guardians, Throughout the term the Habits of Mind have been very evident – striving for accuracy, flexibility in thinking, questioning and problem solving, remaining open to continuous learning, finding humour, taking responsible risks, responding with awe and wonderment, applying knowledge to a new situation, perseverance to name a few. Well done to all girls who have worked so hard this term in many and varied endeavours and managed to maintain sound academic progress. Stage Challenge was a wonderful community effort, a very polished performance and a great spectacle to watch at the Aotea Centre with performances from 15 other schools. One of the judges said I loved the performance, not afraid to play a high tempo beat with a dynamic range. Beautiful drama sequences, the cast did a wonderful job. Marist received three significant awards: Excellence in Choreography, Excellence in Drama and Excellence in Performance Skills. Congratulations to all involved for this outstanding achievement. The theme chosen by leaders Antonia Laus, Chanel Mehrotra, Chantal Hoeft, Erin Hayes, Jessica Watson, Melanie Mirfin was Generation Y. In the introduction they said: What do you remember from your childhood? Boredom busters took the form of playgrounds and kites. But when did children become defined by gadgets, social media and battery percentages? We invite you to witness the engulfing nature of the virtual world and the effects it has on young people in the real world. Be consumed by Generation Y. Well done girls and also those who led the support crew: Rachael Varcoe – costume design, Natassja Cox - lighting and props, Cherry Kura co-host, Tea Fronteras makeup/hair with Imani Kerr, Katy Chamley, Keziah DSouza and Krystal Pomee.
