NCAA Clearinghouse – College-bound student-athletes preparing to enroll in a Division I or

Division II school need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

to ensure they have met amateurism standards and are academically prepared for college

coursework. Athletes need to qualify academically and be cleared as an amateur student-

athlete. The 2014-15 NCAA Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete, the 2014-15 NCAA

Initial Eligibility Brochure, and addition additional information is available online at

http://www.ncaapublications.com. Division III college-bound student athletes can visit

www.ncaa.org/d3 regarding policies on admission, financial aid, and athletics eligibility.

The College Foundation of North Carolina– www.CFNC.org. This website provides information

and assistance about planning, applying and paying for college. Students may practice their

ACT and SAT test-taking skills by using the free Test Prep. Seniors may apply to many NC

colleges and universities online and send their official electronic high school transcripts instate.

Students may request an official transcript for mailing to out of state colleges and universities.

General financial aid information, including scholarship information, is available on the website.

If you are planning to attend a college/university out of state, you need to request a transcript

to be sent thru the guidance office.

East Carolina University College of Education on Living-Learning Community – The Living-

Learning community gives the 1st year students a unique residential learning experience that

connects the faculty and staff member and classroom learning with residence life to ease the

transition into the East Carolina University community and have a success college life. Apply

North Carolina State University “The Shelton Challenge” – The Shelton Challenge is a one-

week summer experience for rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school.

Shelton’s cornerstones of values-based leadership, honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity,

and social responsibility are the foundations of the experience. The core curriculum focuses on

Leadership Roles and Accountability, Team Building, Leadership Styles and Situations, Social

Responsibility, Integrity as a Leader, Public Speaking, Changing Behaviors, and Goal Setting.

Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. The program is $600.00 total which includes

deposit, lodging, meals, and program curriculum. To obtain and application or, for more

an application.

Department of the Navy – Every summer, the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD)

hosts two summer programs aimed at high performing math and science students. Current 8th

through 10th graders are eligible to apply their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

(STEM) program and current 11th graders are eligible to apply to their Naval Academy Summer

Seminar (NASS). The online application for Summer STEM will open on January 5, 2015 at

http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/STEM and the online application for the Summer Seminar

will open on January 15, 2015 at http://usna.edu/Admissions/NASS. The NASS deadline is

March 31, 2015 and the STEM deadline is April 15, 2015.

College of the Albemarle – For seniors who plan to attend College of the Albemarle in the fall,

SUMMER PROGRAMS

Horticulture Science Summer Institute – High school students are invited to spend a week (July

5-10) trying NCSU on for size, while exploring the many facests of the Department of

Horticulture Science. The cost of the institute will be $600 with a $150 deposit due upon

application acceptance. Applications are due Friday, April 1. To sign up go to

National Science Foundation VESTEM (Vikings Enhancing STEM) – This program is designed to

expose students to the general concepts of English and Mathematic along with increasing the

expectations of a college education. The VESTEM program offers: summer bridge program – a

five week residential or virtual summer enrichment program for pre-freshmen, supplemental

instruction and one-on-one mentoring and tutoring, student learning community, summer

internships, research opportunities, and GRE preparation. Admission is limited to incoming

freshman that have been accepted and have committed to attend ECSU, and will major in

Chemistry, Computer Science, or Mathematics. For more information contact: Raynard K.

FREE ENTERPRISE LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE – Do you have what it takes to start a company and

be a leader? Come to a five day overnight camp and learn more about running your own

business at camp. This is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. For more

information visit: www.felcexperience.org. Deadline is May 1.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY – North Carolina State University offers Pre-College

programs in a variety of academic disciplines, each aimed at helping students prepare for

college while experiencing NC State life. For more information, visit the office of Pre-College

NORTH CAROLINA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Visit the website www.ncommunityfoundation.org and enter which county you live in. There are several scholarships available.

COLLEGE OF THE ALBEMARLE

Students who have been admitted to College of the Albemarle can now apply for private scholarships. Go to the website

www.albemarle.edu/students/scholarships and click on private scholarships.

UNCG Guarantee

It’s a source of financial aid that helps recent North Carolina high-school graduates with family incomes at or below poverty graduate from UNCG with

little or no debt! Apply for the UNCG Guarantee Scholarship at www.guarantee.uncg.edu and click on “Apply to the Guarantee.”

FRED C JACKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to attend the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University or the

College of Life Sciences and Agriculture of North Carolina State University, and be enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree program. Scholarship is based on academic achievement, character, extracurricular activities, especially those related to Agriculture, and financial need. Applications are available in the

guidance office. Deadline is March 31st.

FIRE SPRINKLER ESSAY

Fire Sprinkler Essay is a $20,000 scholarship offered to high school seniors enrolling in a college/university or certified trade school in the United States.

Applications will only be accepted online through the AFSA scholarship website (www.afsascholarship.org). Deadline is April 1, 2015.

NCSEAA FORGIVABLE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE (FELS)

This program provides funding for NC Students pursuing programs leading to careers in areas with critical need such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields and medicine. Students who reeive funds throught this program must sign a

promissory note agreeing to work in NC after graduation in an approved position, one year for each academic year of funding received. Go to www.cfnc.org/FELS for further information and applications materials. Deadline to apply is April 1,

2015.

ELIZABETH CITY ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

The following scholarships are available to graduating seniors who parents are not members of the Rotary. They include: The Elizabeth City Rotary Club Scholarship,

AB Houtz and Jeanette B Houtz (Music Majors only), WG Gaither Scholarship (Buisness Administration Majors only), Miles L Clark, Little-Thornton and Maude S

and Horace G Reid, Sr. Scholarship. Applications are available in the guidance office. All completed applications are due in the guidance office by April 2, 2015.

SEANC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is separate from the People Helping People Scholarship and is for dependents whose parents are members of the State Employee Credit Union.

There are 3 categories; financial, merit and member only. Financial need applicants must include a copy of the FAFSA student aid report without asterisk.

Stop by the guidance office to pick up information or go the website www.seanc.org. Deadline April 15, 2015.

ELIZABETH CITY DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP

The Elizabeth City Alumnae Chapter will be awarding five scholarships to senior girls based on GPA and financial need. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required to apply. Applications are available in the guidance office. Guidance deadline to apply is

April 16, 2015.

CAMDEN COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC.

The Camden County Education Foundation has 7 different scholarships that are offered to graduating seniors from Camden County. Applications are available in

the guidance office and are due no later than April 17, 2015.

NORTH CAROLINA POTATO FESTIVAL ESSAY CONTEST

The NC Potato Festival will award a $500 scholarship to a high school senior. All essays must be postmarked by May 1, 2015. For more information, see Mrs.

Stallings in the guidance office.

EXTENSION MASTER GARDENER SCHOLARSHIP GRANT

Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Pasquotank County are offering two $1,000 scholarships to Pasquotank/Camden high school graduates entering into agriculture, horticulture, botany or other related fields of study at an institute of

higher learning. Applications may be obtained from Mrs. Stallings or the Pasquotank County Extension office. Applications must be received by May 15.

SUNTRUST OFF TO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP SWEEPSTAKES

High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for their first year expenses at a

college of private career school. One winner will be chosen every two weeks
