Desert Caballeros Western Museum is proud to host the 10th anniver-sary of their acclaimed ‘Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West’, Invitational Exhibition & Sale. For the past decade Cowgirl Up! has attracted emerging and established women artists from all over the West who work in painting, drawing and sculpture. Hundreds of applicants are reviewed and 58 selected as representative of the West’s top female fine art voices today. The kick-off weekend of this spring exhibition begins at 2pm Friday, March 20th with the opening Exhibition Preview and Miniatures Sale, followed by the evening Artists and Patrons Party. On Saturday the gallery is open 10am-3pm with the first feature event being ‘Cowgirls and Camaraderie’ an Artists and Collectors Forum at 11:00 a.m., where some very lively discussions on the state of Western art are sure to ensue. Saturday evening the festivities continue with the ‘Bash and Bid Sale’, Artists Awards Dinner and Live Auction where attendees don their dressy Western attire. Sunday begins at 9am with a Chuck Wagon Breakfast, the Artists’ Quick Draw and commences with the very spirited Live Auction. Winter Advertising placed in the following publications Jan & Feb: Phoenix Magazine, Western Horseman, Valley Guide, Arizona Drive Guide, Western Horse Review, Phoenix Magazine City Guide, & West Valley Star. Chamber Staff worked with journalists who wrote stories about Wickenburg for several publications. Titles included: Wickenburg Winter Riding Mecca, Wickenburg a Horse Lovers Desert Paradise, and Destination Wickenburg. Chamber Staff also took advan-tage of promotional opportunities two weeks before Super Bowl, by placing calendar and attraction information with the Glendale CVB and Westmarc Activity Calendar, along with photographs for their use.

Gearing up for Gold Rush Days, advertising is also placed in news-

papers locally and out of the area. Commercials made for radio and television, and interviews scheduled with media prior to the event. Our digital billboard creative ad drew comments, phone calls and gave us an opportunity to display our lifestyle image to passing motorists in Phoenix for three weeks during the busy sports calendar. IRS-Impersonation Phone Scam “An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may know a lot about their targets, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to coop-erate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting. Or, victims may be told they have a refund due to try to trick them into sharing private information.”

Email Phishing Scam- “The emails appear to be from the IRS and include a link to a bogus web site intended to mirror the official IRS web site. These emails contain the direction “you are to update your IRS e-file immediately.” The emails mention USA.gov and IRSgov (without a dot between “IRS” and “gov”), though notably, not IRS.gov (with a dot). Don’t get scammed. These emails are not from the IRS. Taxpayers who get these messages should not respond to the email or click on the links. Instead, they should forward the scam emails to the IRS at [email protected].”

Identity Theft Scam-”The IRS has issued several consumer warnings about the fraudulent use of the IRS name or logo by scamsters trying to gain access to consumers’ financial information in order to steal their identity and assets. Scamsters will use the regular mail, telephone, fax or email to set up their victims. When identity theft takes place over the Internet (email), it is called phishing. The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through email. Unsolicited email claiming to be from the IRS, or from an IRS-related component such as EFTPS, should be reported to the IRS at [email protected].”
