CONFERENCE PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTSThe programme highlights can be found on the website, here is a taste of what you can expect at this years event. Our conference is called the Patient Journey; we will travel with our patient on their journey through podiatry. We will discuss how they approach their impending visit to a Podiatrist and see what they see. The patient condition will be revealed and our panel of experts will provide an insight into the treatment and care plan. We look at the patient visit from many angles that will engage you and provide insight in all aspects of podiatric care.

MASTERCLASSESThis year we are delighted to be offering 3 MasterClasses on Thursday 7th July, the day before conference. Spaces are limited, so register early to ensure you don’t miss out!

EARLYBIRD REGISTRATIONS CLOSE 30 APRIL

It’s really important that when you renew your membership, you don’t let it lapse because it will be an issue for your insurance cover.

The membership you have with PodiatryNZ includes:

• Professional Indemnity - This cover provides members with protection against claims for breach of professional duty as a podiatrist. It includes cover for legal expenses.

• Public Liability - This cover provides members with protection against claims for property damage or personal injury where they are legally liable. For example, an accidental flood from a member’s premises damages another building.

• Employers’ Liability Insurance - This cover provides protection where employees suffer personal injury at work where the employee is not eligible for accident compensation and sues the employer.

• Statutory Liability -This cover provides protection where there is a potential or actual prosecution brought against a member when, in the course of business, there is an unintentional breach of an act of Parliament.

The type of insurance you have is a “claims made” basis of cover. If you have a circumstance of claim or loss, it is related to the policy in place at the time you become aware of the circumstance, not the policy in place at the time of the alleged mistreatment or negligence. (What that means is, if the incident occurs while you have insurance in place, but a claim is lodged after your insurance expires, you are NOT covered for that event).

It is very important to renew your membership and your insurance before it lapses. If you renew your policy late, the insurers have a right to cancel cover for any work done prior to the inception of the new or late policy.

Continuity of cover is essential for peace of mind and should be part of any risk management.

You can pay by credit card or internet banking, it’s easy, just go to www.podiatry.org.nz login and renew your membership. If you don’t want to use the online credit card facility, call the office and we will do it over the phone (04) 473 9547.

If you need to talk to us about how to maintain or keep your cover in place, give us a call. As a valued member it’s our job to provide the best service we can to you.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUITY OF MEMBERSHIP

THANKS TO OUR SPONSORSFor the record we need to sincerely thank our very generous sponsors. By comparison to other heath professions, we are small in number and the sponsorship we receive from ASICS, FootScience International, and Shoe Clinic enables us to maintain our service to you.

PODIATRYNZ POSTERS AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD PodiatryNZ has created a series of advertising posters available to promote Podiatry. These are useful to put in clinics and waiting rooms, and we can print them with your logo and contact details if desired. These will help to inform the public of the many ways podiatrists can help them, promote the Podiatry profession, as well as your own clinic and PodiatryNZ.

To see a large preview of the posters, or to download, visit our website www.podiatry.org.nz under Newsletters & Resources.

CLINIC HANDBOOKAre you always looking for resources to help support your clinic? PodiatryNZ is in the process of developing a complete handbook for members. The handbook will contain procedures, policies and forms on all aspects of practice management. The handbook will be a set of templates that you can tailor to suit your own practice. Enclosed is a sneak preview of the informed consent policy. If you would like this in a word document format send an email to [email protected] and and we will send one to you.

REST HOME REQUIREMENTS – IMPORTANT NOTEAll rest homes and aged residential care facilities are certified and audited to ensure they: provide safe, appropriate care for their residents and meet the standards set out in the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001.

As part of the audit process, aged care facilities will be asked to provide proof that they are using the service of a registered health professional.

We have heard of some aged care facilities asking for a copy of registration certificates from community Podiatrists who do not hold contracts with their facilities. Please do not provide a copy of any certificate to a Rest Home, unless you have a current contract with that facility.

Sign up to the ASICS database to receive the quarterly forerunner and other updates to go in the draw to win a pair of ASICS shoes worth $300 RRP – prize will be drawn on the 9th July at The Patient Journey conference. Check our website for details. www.podiatry.org.nz
