Principal’s Report Student Leaders—Badge Presentation On Monday a special assembly was held to present badges to this year's student leaders. It was terrific to see so many parents in attendance. The student leaders play a very important part in making the school a great place for their peers. I congratulate them all and wish them well with their responsibilities this year. Photos from the presentations are later in this newsletter.

Tarago Athletics Carnival Unfortunately the Tarago Athletics Carnival had to be postponed due to inclement weather yesterday. Thank you for your understanding with this situation. The carnival will go ahead at a later date, yet to be determined. A note will be sent home with participants as soon as we know the details.

Somers Camp Every two years our school has the opportunity to send a limited number of students from years 5 and 6 to Somers Camp. We had around 24 students who expressed interest in attending, however, we were only allocated 4 places this year. Students were randomly selected. Congratulations to Larissa, Hannah, Thomas and Kyle on being the lucky 4 to attend this 9 day camp.

Parent Teacher Discussions Earlier this week information was sent home regarding Parent-Teacher discussions. Discussions will occur on Tuesday March 22nd and Wednesday March 23rd, from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. The SENTRAL system that is used to book these interviews also has many functions that can help with communication between home and school. If you are having trouble logging in to SENTRAL, please try to persist or come and see me at school to assist you. Bookings for interviews can be made by contacting the office on 5627 6286 if you cannot log on to SENTRAL. Parent-Teacher discussions provide an opportunity for teachers to get to know your child a little better and help to promote the relationship between home and school. Whilst we encourage parent attendance at these sessions I also recommend that if you wish to discuss anything with your child’s teacher an appointment can be made with teachers at other times throughout the year. Safe and Happy Environment- Stop, Walk, Talk. Our goal at Drouin South PS is to create and maintain a safe and happy environment at school for all students. We do this through having school rules, rewards and consequences. Children will make mistakes and along with academic learning, social learning is a big part of school. As parents you can assist your child by reminding them that when an issue occurs that they need to say "Stop" to the person doing the wrong thing. They can then "Walk" away from the situation and "Talk" to teacher , or, in some instances, a KidsMatter student who is wearing a fluro vest. In this way the issue can be dealt with in an appropriate manner. Junior School Council Fundraisers On Monday. February 29th, Junior School Council held a ‘Money Snake Fundraiser’. Thankyou for the generosity of those students and families who’ donated money. Students created the money snake at lunch time, stretching throughout the BER building. The fundraiser was a great success, supporting the Elliott family with their recovery. Photos from the fundraiser are later in this newsletter. On Monday March 21st, JSC are running a ‘Harmony Day Fundraiser’. Students are invited to wear multicultural clothes or orange in support of Harmony Day. A gold coin donation is required to dress up and here will be a whole school picnic on the oval at lunch time. Students are reminded to be sun smart wearing clothes covering the shoulders and no thongs are to be worn.

Kids at home for the school holidays but, you still want to help with Farm-world? Well here's how…

We’re looking for donations of delicious, homemade slices and biscuits for our hard-working volunteers to enjoy while at Farm World! If you can help, please contact either Susie Williames (0487 456 596) or Belinda King (0427 822 871)

to arrange a convenient drop-off time and place for your baked goods.

Thank you to the families who have returned their volunteer forms for our

Delivery Service at Farm World 2016. So far we have received volunteer

commitments from just 15 families out of a total 140 families at our school. We

appreciate that with Farm World being on the last weekend of the school holidays

it will be challenging for many families to volunteer their time while meeting family

commitments. The families who have already volunteered one or two family

members or friends to help have got together with their own families and friends

to work around this either by family members volunteering on different days or

friends or family stepping up to help with child care. Our school has a unique

opportunity to raise $10,000 from this event and we are simply asking each of our

140 families to consider if they can put forward either a parent, relative, older

sibling or friend to come and help with this very important fundraiser. Please

remember, it is our children who will benefit from our efforts - imagine how hot

our kids would have been in the last week or so if we hadn't raised enough money

through past Farm Worlds to pay for air conditioning for our school buildings!

While Farm World is not until 7-10th of April we will need to gather volunteer

numbers by the end of next week so that all the tickets and information packs can

be sent home to our volunteer families before the end of term. If you haven't

already done so, please return your forms as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about this event please contact Denise Palmer on

The staff at OSHC are extremely proud of Ellie and Ainsley who entered this years Victorian Multicultural Commission Art Competition at OSHC. Every year the VMC host a festival in Melbourne to

bring together the people of Victoria and celebrate the many cultures of it's state. Children needed to put together a piece of art that portrayed this years theme of "Harmonies from around the world".

We are excited to announce that Ainsley has made it through as a finalist in this years competition. Ainsley, her family and Casey will travel to Melbourne to admire all entries of this years competition, at the Atrium in Federation Square. Here we will also find out if Ainsley has won this years competition.

Good luck Ainsley!

OSHC would love any donations of unwanted wool and

beads.

Also if any parents have or are able to provide dry tree blocks, suitable for

kids to easily pick up and stack, Casey would love speak with you!!

Thanks– OSHC Staff
