2. Panic of 1837 *Speculators did not pay back loans used to buy land*State banks were loaned money with no limit and printing

their own money (not backed by silver and gold)*Jackson ordered that anyone buying public land had to

pay for it with gold or silver – speculators rushed tobanks to exchange the paper money and banks didnot have enough gold/silver and were force to close
