• 2. Create announcements / web links / calendar of events.
• 3. Automatically notify parents daily / weekly / monthly on set parameters.
• 4. Easily monitor grades through study island.
• 5. The ever ongoing pursuit for the best cup of coffee for the morning.

Background
Our Challenge• To work smarter, not harder, for
the benefit of our students.• Involve Learning Coaches /
Parents in real time to address any learning gaps sooner.
• Essential for assisting those students that may have skated through the program unnoticed.
Our Exploration
Study Island was explored in detail by hands on experience through different school environments. (Virtual, public, and charter). It ultimately culminated into the information presented here for you today.
Absolutely not the definitive parameters of what Study Island can do or be used for, but definitely some more tools in your tool-belt to access for use.
Welcome to The Island!
It’s Island Time! How to get The Island to work for you……
Agenda for Presentation:
• Set up a class• Assign Pathways / Work Samples /
Pathways. (Class / Individual)• Assign automatic parent
notifications• Easily extract Study Island grades.
Setting up a class…
Inside the class manager…
Title your class…choose your students
Many important points on this page…
• Add assignments… individual students and whole class…
• Class Notes…• Class Page Activated…
My class notes never change….I put the same thing in my class notes as I put in the “directions” area of each assignment. It doesn’t actually seem to get read, but it helps when talking to LCs about DirectionsFor Study Island….
Suggestion for class links….You can put helpful links in the class links section. I highly recommend putting in a link for the blog site, K12 OLS site, and any other possible helpful sites for tutoring. Maybe add TTM & iStation Links Soon….
Suggestion for class events….I put another copy of the Work Samples inside here. I also put events for Benchmark assignments and tests here. I’m not entirely sure if this is utilized, but I want to make this information as Easily foundAs humanly Possible.
And now to add an assignment…
One student, a few students, a whole class…you can choose…
What my finished classroom looks like…a few things to note…
This is where Study Island “works” for you and your LCs
Parent Notifications tab in S.I.
• I take the OMNI report and filter it by my homeroom teacher name…then by grade level.
• I go into Parent Notifications and insert the email address for each student’s LC from the OMNI report. (It is worth the 20 – 30 min. at the beginning of the school year to set this up…I think.)
• I set Study Island to notify parents weekly of any grades lower than a 70, and monthly for everyone to receive a summary report.
• Please let your LCs know to expect this and explain to them it is an automated service, even though it will have your name listed as the “from” sender.
