� StateFinalistsarevisitedattheirschools,whereStateReviewPanelmemberswillobservetheteachers’classroom,andinterviewcolleagues,administrators,students,supportstaff,parents,andlocalboardofeducationmembers.Asampleagendawillbeprovidedfortheschoolprincipalforplanningpurposes.

FinalInterviewsTentativeDate:September30,2019(afterschoolsitevisitscomplete)StateFinalistsareinterviewedbyagroupconsistingofmembersoftheStateReviewPanel,theTeacheroftheYearprogramcoordinator,legacyTeachersoftheYear,andtheCommissionerofEducation.AconsensusapproachtoscoringwillbeusedtorankordertheStateFinalists.

Thenumericalratings/scoringfromtheportfolioessayresponses,interviewsandschoolsitevisitswillbecombined.Thisinformationwillbeusedtoinformthediscussionandfinalselection.TheStateReviewPanelwillputforthonecandidatetotheCommissionerofEducationtobenamedthe2020MaineTeacheroftheYear.

� TheMTOYCoordinatorwillassisttheTOYwiththenationalportfolio/applicationdevelopmentprocess,explanationoftimelines,andwillreadandcritiquetheportfoliobeforeitissubmittedtoNTOY.AmentorfromtheMaineStateTeacheroftheYearAssociationisavailabletotheTOYthroughouttheprocess.

o TeacheroftheYearInductionConference.EachyearalltheStateTeachersoftheYearmeettolearnfromeachotherandfromexpertsonwaystoimproveandstrengthentheroleofTeacheroftheYear.TheTeacheroftheYearInductionannualconferenceistypicallyheldinlateJanuaryorearlyFebruary.ThenamesofthefourNationalTeacheroftheYearfinalistswillbemadepublicinearlyJanuaryandtheywillbeintroducedatthebanquetduringtheconference.

o Washington,DCRecognition-StateTeachersoftheYear.InallyearsoftheProgram,thePresidenthasintroducedtheNationalTeachertotheAmericanpeople.Inrecentyears,thePresidenthasinvitedtheStateTeachersoftheYeartojoinintheWashingtonrecognition.Inpastyears,theWashingtonrecognitionhastakenplaceduringTeacherAppreciationWeekinearlyMay.Thedateswillbeconfirmedatalaterdate.
