REAL MADRID FC
History
Founded in 1902 as Madrid Football
Club, the team has traditionally worn a
white home kit since. The word Real is
Spanish for Royal and was bestowed to
the club by King Alfonso XIII in 1920
together with the royal crown in the
emblem. The team has played its home
matches in the 81,044-capacity Santiago
Bernabéu Stadium in downtown Madrid
since 1947. Unlike most European
football clubs, Real Madrid's members
(socios) have owned and operated the
club since its inception.
The club is the most valuable sports team in the world, worth €2.5 billion ($3.4 billion) and
also the world's richest football club, with an annual revenue of €549.5 million. The club is
one of the most widely supported teams in the world.[9]Real Madrid is one of three founding
members of the Primera División which have never been relegated from the top division,
along with Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona. The club holds many long-standing rivalries, most
notably El Clásico with Barcelona and the El Derbi madrileño with Atlético Madrid.
On 14 April 1931, the arrival of the Second Spanish Republic caused the club to lose the title
Real and went back to being named Madrid Football Club. Football continued during the
Second World War, and on 13 June 1943 Madrid beat Barcelona 11–1 in the second leg of a
semi-final[22] of the Copa del Generalísimo, the Copa del Rey having been renamed in honour
of General Franco. It has been suggested that Barcelona players were intimidated by
police,[23] including by the director of state security who "allegedly told the team that some of
them were only playing because of the regime's generosity in permitting them to remain in
the country."[24] The Barcelona chairman, Enric Piñeyro, was assaulted by Madrid
fans.[25] However, none of these allegations have been proven and FIFA and UEFA still consider
the result as legitimate. According to Spanish journalist and writer, Juan Carlos Pasamontes,
Barcelona player Josep Valle denied that the Spanish security forces came before the match

Real Madrid's origins go back to when football was introduced to Madrid by the academics
and students of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, which included
several Cambridge and OxfordUniversity graduates. They founded Football Club Sky in 1897,
playing on Sunday mornings at Moncloa. It split into two clubs in 1900: New Foot-Ball de
Madrid and Madrid Football Club.[17] On 6 March 1902, after a new Board presided by Juan
Padrós had been elected, Madrid Football Club was officially founded.[3] Three years after its
foundation, in 1905, Madrid FC won its first title after defeating Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish
Cup final. The club became one of the founding sides of the Royal Spanish Football
Federation on 4 January 1909, when club president Adolfo Meléndez signed the foundation
agreement of the Spanish FA. After moving between grounds the team moved to the Campo
de O'Donnell in 1912.[18] In 1920, the club's name was changed to Real Madrid after King
Alfonso XIII granted the title of Real (Royal) to the club.
In 1929, the first Spanish football league was founded. Real Madrid led the first league season
until the last match, a loss to Athletic Bilbao, meant they finished runners-up to Barcelona.
Real Madrid won its first League title in the 1931–32 season. Real won the League again the
following year, becoming the first side to have won the championship twice

Santiago Bernabebú
Santiago Bernabéu Yeste became president of Real Madrid in 1945.[27] Under his presidency, the club, its
stadium Santiago Bernabéu and its training facilities Ciudad Deportiva were rebuilt after the Spanish
Civil War damages. Additionally, during the 1950s former Real Madrid Amateurs player Miguel Malbo
founded Real Madrid's youth academy, or "cantera", known today as La Fábrica. Beginning in 1953, he
embarked upon a strategy of signing world-class players from abroad, the most prominent of them
being Alfredo Di Stéfano.[28]
In 1955, acting upon the idea proposed by the French sports journalist and editor of L'Équipe Gabriel
Hanot, Bernabéu, Bedrignan and Gusztáv Sebes created an exhibition tournament of invited teams from
around Europe that would eventually become what today is known as the UEFA Champions League.[29] It
was under Bernabéu's guidance that Real Madrid established itself as a major force in both Spanish and
European football. The club won the European Cup five times in a row between 1956 and 1960, which
included the 7–3 Hampden Park final against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960.[28] After these five consecutive
successes, Real was permanently awarded the original cup and earning the right to wear the UEFA
badge of honour.[30]
The club won the European Cup for a sixth time in 1966 defeating Partizan Belgrade 2–1 in the
final with a team composed entirely of same nationality players, a first in the competition. [31] This team
became known as the Yé-yé. The name "Ye-yé" came from the "Yeah, yeah, yeah" chorus in The Beatles'
song "She Loves You" after four members of the team posed for Diario Marca dressed in Beatles wigs.
The Ye-yé generation was also European Cup runner-up in 1962 and 1964.
In the 1970s, Real Madrid won five league championships and three Spanish Cups. [32] The club played
its first UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final in 1971 and lost to English side Chelsea 2–1.[33] On 2 July 1978,
club president Santiago Bernabéu
died while the World Cup was
being played in Argentina. The
International Federation of
Association Football (FIFA)
decreed three days of mourning
to honour him during the
tournament.[34] The following year,
the club organized the first
edition of theTrofeo Santiago
Bernabéu in the memory of its
former president

Best players
Alfredo di Stefano 4 July 1926 – 7 July 2014) was an Argentine-Spanish footballer and coach, widely
regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.[3][4][5][6] He was most associated withReal Madrid and was
instrumental in their domination of the European Champions' Cup during the 1950s, a period in which the
club won the trophy in five consecutive seasons from 1956. Along with Francisco Gento and José María
Zárraga, he was one of only three players to play a part in all five victories. Di Stéfano played international
football mostly for Spain, but he also played forArgentina and Colombia.
Di Stéfano, nicknamed "Saeta rubia" ("Blond
Arrow"),[7][8][9] was a powerful forward with great
stamina, tactical versatility, and vision, who
could also play almost anywhere on the pitch.
He is currently the fifth highest scorer in the
history of Spain's top division, and Real
Madrid's second highest league goalscorer of
all time, with 216 goals in 282 league matches
between 1953 and 1964. He is the second
highest goalscorer in the history of El Clásico.
Hugo Sanchez He began his career playing for Pumas de la UNAM in 1976, and briefly on loan to
the San Diego Sockers (NASL) of the North American Soccer League in 1979. He returned to UNAM in
1980. Sánchez then moved to Spain to play for Atlético Madrid in 1981, playing for the Colchoneros for
four years before moving to cross-town rivals Real Madrid, where he would experience the best years of
his career, winning numerous titles and accolades. He is currently the third highest scorer in the
history of Spain's top division.
Sánchez was a member of the Selección de fútbol de México
(Mexico national team), gaining 58 caps and scoring 29 goals.
He participated in three FIFA World Cup tournaments and
starred in the Mexico team that reached the quarter-finals of
the 1986 World Cup.
At the high-point of his career, he signed for Real Madrid in
1985 and played with players such as Camacho, Butragueño,
Gordillo, Schuster, Valdano and Míchel. This team won five
consecutive league titles (from 1985-86 to 1989-90), the
Copa del Rey in 1989, and the UEFA Cup in 1986. During those five years, Sánchez won four
consecutive Pichichi trophies (the only player in Spain's football history to achieve this without sharing
the trophy in any season), scoring 253 goals in 283 games. He scored 27 or more goals in four
consecutive seasons between 1986 and 1990, including 38 goals in the 1989-90 season, tying the
single-season record set in 1951 by Telmo Zarra and earning the European Golden Boot award to the
best scorer in Europe. Remarkably, all 38 of these goals were scored with only a single touch. Overall,
he scored 47 goals in 45 European Cup games, though he failed to win the trophy.

Roberto Carlos Roberto Carlos da Silva Rocha (born 10 April 1973), more commonly known
simply as Roberto Carlos, is a retired Brazilian footballer and current manager of Turkish league club
Akhisar Belediyespor. He started his career in Brazil as a forward but spent most of his career as a left-
back and has been described as the "most offensive-minded left-back
in the history of the game"
He was nicknamed el hombre bala ("the bullet man") due to his
powerful bending free kicks, which have been measured at over 105
miles per hour (169 km/h).[4] He is also known for his stamina,
running speed, technical skills, crossing ability, long throw ins and 24-
inch (61 cm) thighs. In 1997 he was runner-up in the FIFA World Player
of the Year. Considered one of the best left backs in history, he was
chosen on the FIFA World Cup Dream Team, and in 2004 was named in
the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players.[
Roberto Carlos was born in the city of Garça, São Paulo, Brazil. Raised
with no luxury, he had a poor childhood and used to spend his time
between helping his parents in farm jobs, and playing with his friends
after all his work duties were over. In 1981, Roberto Carlos moved with his family to Cordeirópolis.
On 24 June 2005, Carlos was robbed by two gunmen while doing a live radio interview. However, the
thieves did not harm him, merely taking his watch and the interviewer's cellular phone
David Bechkham is an English former professional footballer. He played for Manchester United,
Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain, and the England national team
for which he holds the appearance record for an outfield player. He was the first English player to win
league titles in four countries, England, Spain, the United States and France. He announced his
retirement at the end of the 2012–13 season and, on 18 May 2013, played the final game of his 20-year
career.
Beckham's professional career began with Manchester United,
where he made his first-team debut in 1992 aged 17.[6] With
United, he won the Premier League title six times, the FA Cup
twice, and the UEFA Champions League in 1999.[6] He then
played four seasons with Real Madrid, winning the La Liga
championship in his final season with the club.[8] In July 2007
Beckham signed a five-year contract with Major League Soccer
club LA Galaxy.[9] While a Galaxy player, he spent two loan
spells in Italy with Milan in 2009 and 2010. He was the first
British footballer to play 100 UEFA Champions League games
As the summer 2003 transfer window approached, Manchester United appeared keen to sell
Beckham to Barcelona and the two clubs even announced that they reached a deal for
Beckham's transfer, but instead he joined reigning Spanish champions Real Madrid for €35
million[64] on a four-year contract as the latest of the galáctico signings by club president
Florentino Pérez. The news came as a bitter pill to the newly elected Barça president Joan
Laporta, who based much of his presidential campaign precisely on signing Beckham

Raul Gonzalez known as Raúl, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for New York Cosmos
as a striker. Raúl was born in the San Cristóbal de los Ángeles neighborhood of Madrid where he
played for the local youth team before moving to the Atlético Madrid youth team. He later moved to
Real Madrid's youth academy and played at its various levels. In 1994, he signed his first professional
contract with the fourth division team Real Madrid C and then was swiftly promoted to the first
division team.
Considered one of the most important players in the history of Real Madrid, Raúl is regarded to be one
of the greatest Spanish players of all time.He spent 16 years of his career playing for Real Madrid and
is the club's all-time top goalscorer with 323 goals, ahead of Alfredo Di Stéfano, who scored 307 goals.
Raúl is also the most capped player in the history of the club with 741 appearances, ahead of Sanchís.
With los Blancos, he won six La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League titles, scoring in two finals,
four Supercopa de España titles, one UEFA Super Cup
and two Intercontinental Cup
The very next week, Raúl scored his first goal in his
second senior game on a home debut against Madrid
rivals and former youth club Atlético Madrid in a bitter
derby match. Duly establishing himself as a fixture in
the first team, Raúl registered a total of nine goals in
28 appearances to help Real Madrid win the 1994–95
league championship in his first season.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese professional
footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid C.F. and the Portugal national team. He is a forward and serves
as captain for Portugal. By the age of 22, Ronaldo had received Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year
nominations. The following year, in 2008, he won his first Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards.
He followed this up by winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or in 2013 and 2014. He also won the 2013–14 UEFA Best Player
in Europe Award. In January 2014, Ronaldo scored his 400th senior career goal for club and country aged 28
Often ranked as the best player in the world and rated
by some in the sport as the greatest of all time,
Ronaldo is the first Portuguese footballer to win three
FIFA/Ballons d'Or, and the second player to win three
European Golden Shoe awards. In January 2015,
Ronaldo was named as the best Portuguese player of
all time by the Portuguese Football Federation, during
its 100th anniversary celebrations. With Manchester
United and Real Madrid, he has won three Premier
Leagues, one La Liga, one FA Cup, two Football League
Cups, two Copas del Rey, one FA Community Shield,
one Supercopas de España, two UEFA Champions

On 26 June 2009, Real Madrid confirmed that Ronaldo
would join the club on 1 July 2009 from Manchester
United for £80 million (€94 million) becoming the most expensive footballer in history, after agreeing terms and
signing a six-year contract. Ronaldo's contract was worth €11 million per year and had a €1 billion buy-out clause.
He was presented to the world media as a Real Madrid player on 6 July, where he was handed the number 9 shirt.
The shirt was presented to him by Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano.
