HATS OFF TO ART CHENEY!

Going down memory lane …. Principal Art Cheney was honored last night as he prepares to retire from his position June 30. Many par-ents, students, teachers, School Board members and former Board members and KY-TN Conference friends were there to salute the man who has given 8 years of service to MCE, three years as 5th grade teacher and then five years as Principal. Ted Hewlett, retired MCE 7th grade teacher, took us down memory lane and reviewed the highlights of Art Cheney’s life. A beautiful video, produced by Deanna Vandivier, was shown, starting with Art’s baby pictures and carrying us through to years at MCE. Art’s two daughters, Ginger Cheney and Julie Donohue, drove up from Chattanooga to attend their father’s cel-ebration event. His wife, Becki Cheney, completed the family group along with grandchild Connor Cheney. Teachers and students prepared comedy skits and salutes to Mr. Cheney. And past and current school board chairmen gave appreciative talks. MCC Pastor Byron Corbett gave the closing prayer. Many thanks to Cindy Boskind for chairing and coordinating the festive event.

SUMMER SWIM PROGRAM

Dr. Debbie Morgan, a former physical education teacher at MCE, will once again be offering private and group swimming lessons this summer in her back-yard pool. Eight 50-minute group lessons will be offered during two weeks in June (June 10-21) and two weeks in July (July 1-12). Typically, classes run Monday through Thursday with each Friday serving as a make-up day in case of rain. The start times for the June classes will be noon until 5:00 p.m. July classes will be held between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to accommodate parents’ work schedules. The group lessons are organized according to ability level as much as possible. Dr. Morgan has taught all skill levels and ages of swimmers ranging from tiny tots’ first exposure to water and first time adult swimmers, to competitive swimmers or tri-athletes who wish to sharpen their skills. She will be assisted by her daughter, Hannah who also has extensive experience teaching swimmers of all abilities. Private or semi-private lessons are also available and will be sched-uled on an individual basis. If there is enough interest, a class especially designed for competent swim-mers who wish to increase their endurance and speed will also be offered. Call Dr. Morgan at 812-5477 or email her at [email protected] if you are interested in joining a class. First come, first served basis. The registration deadline for the June session is June 7.

THANK YOU!! Many thanks go out to all the people who helped make Mr. Cheney's retirement celebration a special event last night. God blessed each of you with talents that you are using to bless others. I especially want to thank all the parents who made food- it was absolutely delicious! I have to mention two young men who put their muscles to work moving tables and setting up chairs- Andrew Murphy and Carter Boskind- your hard work is appreciated boys! Mr. Cheney- Thank you for all your years of dedicated service and may your retirement be the best years of your life! Cindy Boskind
