1. This course is for people who wish to work in the Early Childhood Education and Care field at either a centre-based service or home-based (family day care) service, or existing workers wanting to improve qualifications. 2. Course Entry Requirements. Learners must have good communication skills in spoken and written English. CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent is required for enrolment into the evening part time Diploma course and daytime Diploma course when offered. There is no educational pre-requisite for the combined (full) Diploma when offered. 3. Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LLN) Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment is required for Early Childhood Education and Care Courses. Learners should have adequate LLN skills to be able to read and write and verbally communicate with others in English. The test is administered by your trainer as part of the enrolment process. 4. The qualification To be eligible for the award of the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care learners must successfully complete a total of 28 units comprising of: Core units: 23 units Elective units: 5 units (at least 2 must be from the CHC50113 training package list and up to 3 may be selected from any endorsed Training package relevant to the work outcome). A Statement of Attainment will be issued for any unit of competency completed if the full qualification is not completed. 5. Ways (Mode) of delivery The course is delivered as either in class or via a work-based traineeship. Home study is required to support learning. In-class options (depending on timetable – refer to brochure and website for current courses): Evening course: Learners will attend classes two nights per week for 17 weeks, be employed at a regulated early childhood education and care service for at least 21 hours per week plus complete a mid-course two week, full time block practicum and a final 4 week, full time block practicum (minimum 585 hours practicum total). Daytime course: Learners will attend classes 2 days per week for 18 weeks and undertake ongoing practicum at a regulated early childhood education and care service (caring for children 0-5 years of age) for 21 hours per week plus complete a mid-course two week, full time block practicum and a final 4 week, full time block practicum (minimum 606 hours practicum total). Daytime Full Diploma course: Learners will attend classes 2 days per week for 32 weeks and undertake ongoing practicum at a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service (caring for children 0 – 5 years of age) for 21 hours per week plus complete a mid-course two week, full time block practicum and a final 4 week, full time block practicum (900 hours practicum total).

Work-based option: Traineeship arrangement for either full or part time employees at a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service that caters for children 0-5 years. The College provides regular visits (at least 8) over the term of the traineeship. The Diploma is completed over 18-24 months for full time employees and up to 36 months for part time employees. Each trainee has an individual training plan outlining timing of delivery and assessment.

6. Course Venues In class course offered at Cartwright Public School, Learner Place – enter next to 7 Willan Drive, Cartwright. Work-based option is at the place of employment of the trainee and may involve work placement at another service in order to meet assessment requirements such as work placement with children under 2 years of age if the service doesn’t cater for this age group. 7. Learner Support Your trainer is your main support person. The College office staff will assist in enrolment and administration type support. Other support includes:

• Assisting learners who have special needs • Contextualising participant learning resources to meet their needs • Providing additional coaching sessions • Contextualising assessment tasks to suit learner needs • Provide small group learning activities • Providing additional assistance with language, literacy and numeracy needs

There are limitations to the support the College can offer - in those cases we have a range of external options to refer learners. 8. Assessment process Assessments are conducted by in-class observation, written questioning, learner work placement evidence and work place visit/s by a qualified early childhood assessor. The learner must provide sufficient amount of evidence to be judged competent in each unit of competency to achieve the full certificate. NOTE: For any classroom-based option all of the assessments must be submitted within 12 months of the course commencement. Learners wishing to submit assessment after this 12 month period will have to discuss options with the College, and will be required to pay an additional fee for marking of each outstanding unit/s of competence that are still current within the qualification.

9. Confidentiality and Privacy Statement Information, including that submitted on enrolment forms, is used by Macarthur Community College or other authorised organisations for administration, communication, State and National reporting, program monitoring and evaluation. Information is disclosed to the National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) and is necessary when enrolling and re-enrolling. Information will be held securely and disposed of securely. Learners may access their personal information by contacting the College office. 10. Fees and Charges Fees cover tuition and course notes/learning resources. Fees are GST free and payment plans are available. Subsidies NSW Government Subsidised or Smart & Skilled Funding available for qualifying applicants. Please contact College office for more information or to check if you qualify. 11. Unique Student Identifier Is an individual ten-character code that will link to an online account that contains all your training AQF records and results (transcript) that you have completed from 1 January 2015 onwards. Your results from 2015 will be available in your USI account in 2016. All participants who enrol in an AQF qualification course are to obtain and provide the College with a valid USI. The College will record the USI and maintain these records in a secure manner. 12. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Macarthur Community College recognises that you may be able to show you have skills and knowledge of a particular competency on the basis of prior learning, skills gained in the workplace or in some other way. Recognition is available for all AQF courses. Recognition can be granted if you can demonstrate competency in all the performance and knowledge requirements of a particular unit of competency (from a training package) or all of the learning outcomes in a particular module (from an accredited course). If you think you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning in a prospective course you can request a Recognition Package from the College (please note there is a fee associated with RPL applications). Macarthur Community College will recognise any current and verified Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and/or Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTO). If you have a current qualification from another RTO that you wish to seek recognition for (towards a course offered by MCC) you may apply to the College for ‘Recognition’ of this achievement including Credit Transfer where appropriate. You must complete a ‘Request for Verification’ form and lodge this application together with a certified copy of the Qualification or Statement within at least one week of the commencement of the course. In some cases additional evidence may be

required to support your currency of the competency. The College will verify all qualifications and Statements with the issuing organisation. 13. Appeals and Complaints process The College provides the opportunity and encourages any learner with a complaint, grievance or appeal to notify the College in writing outlining their dissatisfaction with the course or service that we deliver. All complaints will be treated efficiently in a confidential, impartial manner free of repercussions and a written final outcome will be provided. Processing of complaint will be finalised within prescribed timeframes as stated in Standards for RTOs 2015. If a complaint or dispute or appeal cannot be resolved and the complainant so requests, the college provides for review by a party independent of the RTO and the complainant, such as the Australian Mediation Association (http://ama.asn.au) or other mutually agreed professional person or organisation. 14. Third Party Arrangements Unit: HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting to be delivered by Surf Lifesaving NSW RTO 90394 (or other approved provider chosen by learner if not already held). 15. To enrol Learners must be enrolled before attending course. Enrolment must be received at the by close of business on the Monday before term starts. Following forms need to be completed

16. Course evaluation Learners complete an end of course evaluation form and AQTF questionnaire at the midpoint of their training where applicable.

Concession Fee Application Form

To be eligible for a concession fee you must meet one of the criteria on this form and be receiving the entitlement on enrolment. For Youth Allowance or Austudy, you must provide the Department of Human Services (Centrelink) approval letter as evidence that the commencement date of the benefit is within 2 weeks of the commencement in training.
