Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)if you feel you have already undertaken training or have current skills equivalent to any of the units of competency we offer, a recognition process is available. Have you just left school? are you looking for a career change or just need to brush up your skills? macarthur community college has just what you need to gain the skills you require. the nationally recognised training we offer will give you the edge in the workplace and are offered in various formats so that you can find a time that is right for you.

Successful completion of each course will provide you with a nationally recognised Statement of attainment, or complete the required combinations of these units to receive a full certificate.

courses are delivered in our training rooms at cartwright and our trainers are of the highest standard using material produced to help your training at every stage. we also offer online and distance study for selected courses.

learner supportYour trainer is your main support person.the college office staff will assist in enrolment and administration type support. other support includes:

* assisting learners who have special needs* contextualising learning resources to meet learner

needs* contextualising assessment tasks to suit learner

needs* providing additional coaching sessions* providing small group learning activities* providing additional assistance with language,

literacy and numeracy needs

there are limitations to the support the college can offer, in those cases we have a range of externaloptions to refer learners.

macarthur community college inc is a registered training organisation (rto 6860) registered by the australian Skills Quality authority (aSQa) to deliver nationally recognised training. to find out more information on rtos and their scope of registration go to www.training.gov.au

the nrt logo means that the training is nationally recognised training (whether from training packages or Vet accredited courses) leading to nationally recognised qualifications.

nationally recognised training comprise of units of competency or whole qualifications from training packages or Vet accredited courses. they are competency based and assessed throughout the course to determine your competency against the standards.

to achieve competency you will need to:

* actively participate in course sessions

* complete assessment tasks and/or projects to the standard required for competency

* be able to use spoken and written english to the standard required to complete the course work

if you achieve competency you will be issued with a Statement of attainment or nationally recognised qualification on completion of the course. all rtos across australia train and assess to

the same competency standards so your Qualification will be recognised by employers and other rtos throughout the country.

You can enrol in a training package or a Vet accredited course and choose not to be assessed. if you complete the course you will receive a certificate of attendance from the college..

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE

Child Protection by RPL in nSw providers have a legal requirement to ensure that the nominated supervisor of a service and any responsible person in day to day charge of a service has successfully completed a course in child protection that has been approved by nSw dec. the only approved codes are now cHcprt001 and cHcprt002 - all old codes have been superseded.CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk from CHC30113/CHC50113 Certificate III/Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

this full time day course provides you with the theoretical background in working with children 0-6 years in a long day care, preschool, occasional care and family day care children’s service and will enhance your skills in providing care to children and developing their play. assessments will be undertaken both in the workplace and at the college.

attendance 2 days per week (monday and tuesday) July 30 to november 27 at college, and 2 days (wednesday and thursday) for practical work experience at a centre. two one-week block pracs September 17-21 and december 3-7. a total of 270 hours practical work experience is required before your final assessment. this course is an approved course through centrelink (no: 2p694) for full-time students. course fee includes all resources, uniform shirts, training and assessment. this course complies with the funding guidelines of the long day care professional development program.

the evening diploma of early childhood education and care course is for those who hold a certificate iii in children’s Services cHc30402/cHc30708/cHc30712/cHc30113 and are currently working in an education and care service. it is conducted on monday and tuesday evenings from July 30-november 27, (no sessions on public holidays) with ongoing prac in your workplace (at least 21 hours per week), a mid-course, 2 week block prac from october 2-12 plus a final 4 week block prac at the end of the course.

the course will develop:• your skills and knowledge to provide care for

children in a child care setting

• knowledge of children’s development

• relationships with families

• leadership and management skills for childrens services workplaces

• a pathway to a degree in early childhood teaching or similar at university

Child Protection Refresher Training educators will learn about the indicators a child may display who is at risk of harm; processes to document concerns of risk and the nSw legislative requirements for responding to those concerns. the course also covers the updated code of ethics for early childhood professionals and ensures educators are aware of organisational policies/practices around risk of harm.

about the collegethe college conducts courses across south western Sydney. it is a community based non-profit organisation providing open access for adults (15+) to educational opportunities, utilising facilities in local schools. we offer affordable short courses to enhance work skills or personal skills and interests.

feesfees cover tuition and course notes (where provided). concessions available. fees include gSt except where indicated by “gSt free.” materials are an additional cost and should not be purchased until you receive confirmation that the course is running.

concessions & discountsconcessions are available to full beneficiaries of centrelink aged, carers, Sole parent and disability Support pensions, parenting allowance, Sickness and unemployment Benefits; and to Seniors card holders (nSw & national Seniors). concessions and claims for discounts can be claimed only at the time of enrolment, by writing the concession number or claim reference on the enrolment form and signing it. documents must be produced upon request, or the full fee will be payable. concessions available except where ‘no concession’ appears. concession fee is $30 off the published fee. concessions not available online.

companionscompanions of a person with a disability may enrol free of charge where the companion enables that person to participate in a course. the companion’s enrolment details are required.

online learningonline learning enables you to complete qualifications at home or work, at your own pace in your own time. to complete your qualification you will need access to a real workplace or replicated workplace. please contact the college office before enrolling if you do not have access to a paid or voluntary work placement to satisfy this requirement.

membershipcollege membership is $5.50 (incl gSt) yearly. membership enables you to vote in college council elections and have a say in how the college is run. add $5.50 (incl gSt) to the course fee and tick ‘membership’ on the enrolment form. membership may be taken out at any time and is for four terms.

certificatescertificates are issued at the request and discretion of the tutor, subject to attendance and participation. certificates which are not collected will be destroyed. replacement certificates/transcripts $12 (incl gSt) each, or $24 (incl gSt) each if the course was conducted more than 12 months ago.

course attendancechildren, relatives and friends cannot be on college premises or in classrooms while participants are attending courses. no smoking on school grounds. mobile phones should be switched off during class.

course changesif the college has to change how a course is delivered, new arrangements will be negotiated as soon as practicable.

receipts/confirmationa receipt/confirmation will be posted or emailed within three working days from receipt of enrolment. if you provided an email address, confirmation will be by email only. if confirmation is not received within four days of enrolment, contact the college office. final confirmation is your responsibility. duplicates are not issued.

mailing liststhe college does not sell or give mailing lists to other organisations. Brochures are sent to current and previously enrolled participants for up to four terms after the last completed course.

refunds the college reserves the right to alter the program. if a course is cancelled you will receive a refund as soon as possible by cheque or credit to your credit card account. if a course is full, you will be offered an alternative course, an advance booking for the next term, or a refund. all other requests for refunds must be in writing.

refunds will not be given unless received 14 days prior to course commencement. a $27.50 (incl gSt) administration fee will be charged for all cancellations. if you are not satisfied with a course we will refund your tuition. refer to ‘course quality and suitability’. refunds will not otherwise be given. We cannot accept responsibility for changes in personal or work circumstances. the college does not accept ‘conditional enrolments’ and will deal with the enrolled participant only. a ‘no refunds policy’ applies to all online learning courses.

transferstransfers are not possible after the second session of a course. transfers from one term to another are possible, but not automatic, upon written application to the college and are subject to an administration fee ($11 incl gSt).

course quality & suitabilitythe college is confident you will be pleased with your course and that it will be conducted as advertised. tutors are selected, trained, skilled, qualified and aware of the needs of participants. if there is a problem, speak to the tutor and/or the co-ordinator first. if your problem remains unsolved, or you do not feel comfortable, call the college office and discuss the matter with our friendly staff. we will refund your tuition fees in full, and ask that you complete an evaluation form to help us improve. evaluation forms are available from the college office. please refer to the statement on refunds.
