CBSE mandates‘No homework’ up toStd. 2By Our Staff Reporter

As a reminder to schools, the Central Boardof Secondary Education (CBSE) has againsent out a circular to its affiliated schoolsinsisting that students of Stds. 1 and 2 shouldnot be given any homework or carry heavyschool bags.

A section of teachers expressed concern overfollowing the no homework rule.

According to Shailaja (a teacher in aneighbourhood CBSE school), as homework isnot given, most of the students are forced tofinish their work only during the classes. Due tothis, other co-curricular classes like music, artand craft, or PT periods get taken up for mainsubjects.

She added that CBSE seems to have takena reactionary approach to complaints fromparents. It should, instead, consult schoolauthorities and parents to find a workablesolution for the benefit of the students.
