HOW TO DISAGREE

One secret of suocessful conversation is l earning to . disagre~ without being disagreeacle. It isn't-what but how U speak that make.s all. the 'difference. Ben Franklin used to remark diplomatically, rron this point I agre.e. But on the other, if you don I t mind, may I take exception? 11

THE tv'.1AN IN THE Grnss

When you get what you want in your stru 5gle for life, and the world makes you king for a day,

Just go to the mirror and lor.:>k at yourself and see what that men has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother -or wif e whose judgment upon you must pass;

The fella~ whose verdict counts most in your life is the one starin g back from the gl 3ss.

You may be lik e Jack Horner and chis e l a plum, an d think that you I re a wonderful guy,

But th~ man in the glass say s you 'r e only a bum If you can 1 t lq ok him straight in the eye.

He 's th e fellow to pleas e , never mind all the rest, For he ' s with you clear up to the end,

And you've pass ed your most difficult test If th e man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years, and get pats on the back as you pa ss,

But your final rewar d will be heartach es and t ears If you choa ted the man in the glass.
