Research Paper
Showcase This week your mini goal is
to your 7th artifact. "Due"
March 2.
This weeks topic is math. Some ideas arefractions, graphs, geometry, decimals. The trick is
to think of a 3D way to demonstrate the math
concept. Try dividing a tiny pizza into fractions, or
divide it into a pie graph. Show 6 ways to draw
equivalent fractions using a cube to display each
way. Or, make bars marked as fractions to compare
fraction amounts or show equivalency. Make 3D
geometric figures like 3 different types of
pyramids. Demonstrate mixed numbers as
improper fractions. Do a survey and make a 3D bar
graph. Make arrays showing composites vs.primes. We will be writing our Showcase sentence
in class as usual.

The dreaded moment has arrived! We are
starting to write a research paper. Everyone has
been assigned a California mission to write about.
All students will be assigned partners to work
with throughout this process. Hooray!
All the mission research paper information is
posted on our classroom website. Please take
time to review the information together before
signing and returning the confirmation slip.
IMPORTANT/DUE FRIDAY:
We have some preliminary steps to accomplishthis week. (The only actual writing this week will
be done in class. We will be writing the
introduction and conclusion together, and this will
not impact homework. Whew!)
1. Please bring a one inch binder and a set ofdividers to school (7 or more). We will be
organizing it together in class.
2. Bring 2 mission information books to school. You can check books out from the Lincoln
Library or the Cupertino Library etc. You can also
purchase books of course.
3. Bring one printed mission resource from theinternet - make sure it has lots of information.
4. Bring the Research Paper Confirmation slip.5. It's also a good idea to print out someinformation such as the Timeline, Suzie Q's step
by step samples, writing tips and information.
Stone Fox
Book ClubWe are transitioning to a Book
Club format as we read our next
literature book. This involves
students choosing friends for
book club groups who will meet
together to discuss the under the ocean ideas in
the book. In order to be prepared for book club
meetings, students must come ready to join the
discussion. This means 1) read the chunk of the
book that will be discussed, 2) write one post-it foreach chapter that marks an important part of the
chapter, and 3) fill out the Before We Met part of
the Book Club Thinking sheet. This involves 2 to
4 sentences - it is about quality vs. quantity. Make
sure you are ready to meet on Tuesday morning.
(The chapters are VERY short!)
Proud to be Me! Do you have pictures in your Google
Drive? Or did you email yourself
family pictures? Youre going to use
them on Thursday so be prepared!
