What is iodine?Iodine is a

chemical element with a symbol I and atomic number 53.

Iodine is required by higher animals for synthesizing thyroid hormones, which contain the element.

What is a low-iodine diet?Thyroid cancer patients with

papillary or follicular thyroid cancer will usually receive a dose of radioactive iodine about two months after their surgery in an attempt to destroy any remaining thyroid cells in their bodies

How much iodine should be consumed on a low iodine diet

The goal is under 50 mcg (micrograms) of iodine per day
