Lotto NRFL 2015 Welcome

With no men’s matches taking place on Saturday due to the FIFA U-20 World Cup final, it’s the turn of the women to take centre stage in the Lotto NRFL this weekend. Fittingly, there are a number of matches in store which deserve the spotlight as the race for the title starts to heat up. Leaders Claudelands Rovers are in pole position and, with Helen Collins firing on all cylinders, are likely to be the side the other contenders must force their way in front of. At this stage, it’s a genuine four-horse race as defending champions Forrest Hill-Milford and Western Springs snap at the heels of Claudelands while Glenfield Rovers are just a few points further back. The clash between Glenfield and Western Springs at McFetridge Park is therefore of huge importance while there is also a vital encounter at the bottom with Norwest United hosting Fencibles United. In the programme this week, we preview all five Women’s Premier games in Round 11, as well as featuring photos from Phototek of two recent matches. In focus were Forrest Hill’s 3-2 success over Three Kings United and Western Springs’ 4-0 triumph against Lynn-Avon United. As always, we also have the up-to-date Women’s Premier table, team progress graph, golden boot chart and squads so there is a wealth of info at your fingertips!

Our Lotto NRFL social media platforms continue to be the place to go for all score updates, results, goal details and other news – be sure to tag us @LottoNRFL with your updates from the sideline!

Good luck for your game!

Programme 2015

Claudelands Rovers vs Papatoetoe

Galloway Park | Sunday 21 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Andy Holdsworth Assistant Referees: Nadia Browning, Sean Coon

Taking any points from this trip south is going to be a mammoth task for Papatoetoe as Rovers have lost just once and are scoring at an amazing rate of over five goals per game. The main aim for Papatoetoe would therefore appear to be restricting the damage done to their goal difference and they will be keen to avoid the fate of Norwest, who were hammered 13-0 by Claudelands in the previous round. Helen Collins is currently four goals behind Glenfield’s Katie Rood in the golden boot race and this offers her a good chance to close the gap.

Norwest United vs Fencibles United Huapai Reserve | Sunday 21 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Aiden Moffatt Assistant Referees: Dave Doidge, Charles Nothnagel

Norwest will be relieved to be facing the only side below them this week after their mauling at the hands of Claudelands and this is simply a must-win for Chris Acott’s side. But Fencibles are in the same boat so the points will be very fiercely contested. The major problem for both teams has been shipping goals – Norwest have let in nearly 60 while Fencibles are approaching half a century. Fencibles actually have the best attacking record out of the bottom four sides though and will hope that can give them the edge here.

Three Kings United vs Eastern Suburbs Keith Hay Park | Sunday 21 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Deane Laing Assistant Referees: Jacqui Stephenson, Reza Al Rebea

After a bright start to the season, Three Kings have gone off the boil and have now slumped to fifth. Having been top as recently as the seventh round, they will still harbour hopes of a high finish but the title appears to be a long shot. Suburbs are on a good run after winning two on the trot but both matches were against sides they will have expected to beat and Three Kings will offer a much sterner examination. Suburbs did the double over Three Kings last season but that will count for little as the squad is unrecognisable from those days.

Lynn-Avon United vs Forrest Hill-Milford United

Ken Maunder Park | Sunday 21 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: Johanna O’Connor Assistant Referees: Hilary Osborne, Paul Mason

Champions Forrest Hill face a real fight to defend their crown this season with Claudelands leading the way and much-improved Western Springs likewise launching a genuine bid. Glenfield are also just three points behind so it looks like the race could get tight over the coming weeks. Every point is therefore going to be crucial and Forrest Hill can’t afford a slip up here against a team that has won just twice. Lynn-Avon are not clear of relegation worries though so will be in no frame of mind to allow Forrest Hill an easy ride.

Glenfield Rovers vs Western Springs

McFetridge Park | Sunday 21 June | Kick-off: 1pm | Referee: James Ashford Assistant Referees: Chris Casey, Charlie Tseng

This is the tie of the round and a win for either side would be a massive boost to their chances of pushing for the title as the business end of the season approaches. As the worst-placed of the title contenders, Glenfield are in greatest need of the points and, having lost three times already, another defeat could put an end to their hopes. After posting a couple of early losses, the new-look Springs squad has really hit its straps in recent weeks, earning five wins in a row. Things are going well at both ends of the park with 21 goals scored in those matches and just one conceded.
